Oklahoma City has really upped its game over the past few years, with the additon of NBA Thunder basketball, the revitilization of Bricktown and the development of the Boathouse District. To the disappointment of many a young love, a lot of these hot areas carry a hefty price tage. Fortunately, OKC still has lot of free date night ideas.

Free Dates Nights For Sports Buffs

Boathouse District - Looking for a great way to connect outdoors? The Boathouse District, along the Oklahoma River is just what you are looking for. There are great trails for walking, running or biking. If there is no event going on, the area is also quite private and offers a great chance to spread out a blanket and have a picnic as you listen to the waterfall. And, very soon the Boathouse District will be connected to Bricktown through a new tunnel.

Free Date Nights for Romantics

LIVE On The Plaza District - The Plaza District located on NW 16th between Classen and Penn Avenue, is home to art galleries, studios, retail shopping, and restaurants. Each Second Friday of the month from 7-11pm, enjoy LIVE on the Plaza, a monthly artwalk featuring live music, artists, special events and local shopping. What a great way to spend a romantic evening with your significant other.

Lake Hefner - Does it get more romantic than sail boats? Grab a blanket, pack a picnic and watch the sail boats on Lake Hefner.

Will Rogers World Airport - Watching planes take off sounds a little cliche, but only because it really does has romantic value. There is something about looking up at the wide open skies from the bed of a truck that puts things into perspective.

Paseo Arts District - The First Friday gallery walk is held on the first Friday and Saturday each month. The walk starts on Friday at 6pm and lasts until 10pm and on Saturday from 12pm to 6pm. Over 60 artists in more than 17 galleries participate, all within walking distance.

SkyDance Bridge (Scissor-tailed Flycatcher Bridge) - Oklahoma City’s new landmark bridge is a 380-foot-long pedestrian bridge and 197- foot-tall sculpture that spans Interstate 40 near Robinson Avenue south of downtown. Inspired by Oklahoma’s state bird, the scissor-tailed flycatcher, is illuminated nightly with LED lights to welcome visitors to downtown. The color of light can be changed remotely, depending on the event or holiday. Grab your date and walk across the scissor-tailed flycatcher bridge at night when its lit up. What a great view of the downtown Oklahoma City skyline.

Free Date Nights For Adventure Seekers

Bricktown - The Bricktown area is a thriving retail and restaurant district with lots to see and do. Walk along the Bricktown Canal and watch the water taxis ferry passengers.

Oklahoma City Zoo - Not a typical date spot, visiting the zoo is actually a great way to get to know your date. And, while admission to the OKC zoo normally runs $8 per person, there are many free days throughout the year. In fact, admission is free every Monday in December, January and February. The zoo is also free on July 17, 2013 and November 27, 2013.

45th Infantry Division Museum - A wonderful collection of military artifacts from Oklahoma's own 45th Infantry Division of the National Guard, also known as the Thunderbirds. A unique way to get out a try something new with your date without breaking the bank.

Buffalo Pictures - The 2007 Oklahoma Centennial celebrations also brought us buffalo. Well, buffalo sculptures anyway. Now they are all over OKC, including one in front of the Bricktown Ballpark. Find as many as you can and take photos to document your date adventures.
