Have You Really Loved? - A Love Story That Touches Your Soul

A Love Story

An old man weeps openly as a doctor tells him that his wife of 60 years is dying. She doesn’t have much time left. Against the will of his children, he takes her home and lays her on her own bed. Although she can’t hear him, or see him, he holds her hand and keeps talking to her about the happy time they spent, and many blissful trips they took. He reads the love letters he wrote to her, three full cases of them. The ink on the papers has long faded. However, he remembers every word from his heart.

His children prepare nice meals for him. He eats nothing because she can’t consume any food, and he won’t take a nap for the fear that she might perish before he wakes. In the morning, his son walks into the room and finds his father sitting on a chair while holding the hand of his beloved woman, who had died sometime after midnight. His body is cold and stiff.

In his will, he writes: my biggest wish is to hold the hand of my darling wife and accompany her on her final journey. I hope this moment, my wish is fulfilled.

Nowadays, people get married and divorced so easily. Eternal love has become the stuff of legend and myth. Newspaper worthy so do speak. Every so often, people fall in love because they don’t know each other very well, and fall out of it for the reason that they know each other too well. To some, love is like a game, only win or defeat, but no forever. Yet, deep down inside, we all hunger for that special someone, who will light up our life and bring meaning to the world that we are living in.

Beautiful story. Next year my parents will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. Amazing, I think. To have stayed together so long, through the good and the bad, and I do remember as a youngster things got pretty bad, but they weathered the storms together. I, myself, have been married and divorced.. not something I took lightly but something I knew was the right thing to do. Since then I have found the man of my dreams, we've been together for 3 years and every fibre of my being tells me that he is the man for me. I hope to have a sad/happy ending to our life story as the one you've just shared.

Thank you for sharing something so beautiful and so touching.

That is so true. I didn't truly understand the point of life until I met my girlfriend. Keep up the great work nice Hub!

@Dreamlin: In the wedding vows, that many religious sects use, it is stated "What God has Joined together let No Man put Asunder!" When you are in love with your True Love and Soulmate there is a joining that can be seen in the two!

They with take on mannerisms, appearance and think very similarly, the longer they are together! That is the way my wife and I are and that is best the sign to me that we were made for each other!

(BTW we will be married for 28years on the 30th of this month!)

This hub has great audience appeal and has generated good commentary,Dreamlin! Both are signs of a quality read! Good Work!

Voted it up and pushed three of the four buttons on this one! Regards Mike (Aka Professor M!) ;D
