Creating a memorable wedding for less

Bathroom baskets have been popping up at a lot of weddings recently, as brides become more conscious of the needs of their guests. A great bathroom basket will have items tailored to its intended audience (men or women), however it doesn't have to be an expensive endeavor. Starting a few months before the wedding, begin looking in flyers for items on sale or check out the websites of various companies (such as Johnson, colgate, etc.) and see if they can mail you free samples - perfect size! You can also check out places like eBay, which may have wholesale lots of sanitary products. Below is a list to help get you started, but you can personalize it however you would like.

Womens Washroom:

  • Shout Wipes
  • Spray Deodorant (would you want to use the stick kind after someone else has?)
  • Q-tips
  • Cotton Balls
  • Makeup pads
  • Listerine Strips or other breath mints
  • Crest Finger Brush
  • Clear Nail Polish (can touch up nails, but also keep snags in nylons from growing bigger!)
  • Hair Spray
  • Lotion
  • Anti Bacterial gel or wipes
  • Body Spray (something standard like vanilla)
  • Eye Drops and/or contact lens solution

To make an attractive basket, pick up some wicker baskets at Wal-Mart or Target. If they don't already have a lining, find some pretty fabric to place inside.

Next, fill the basket starting with the taller items at the back, so that your guests can see everything that's in there.

Lastly, on your computer, write out some tags to be tied to the front with ribbon. They can say something as simple as: "These items have been provided by the Bride and Groom for your convenience", or you can write a short poem and place it in a frame next to the basket.

Punch two holes at the top of the tag, and after threading ribbon through them, either tie it around the entire basket, or just to the front.

You can make them up as far in advance as you'd like, but make sure you have someone to drop them off at the reception venue the morning of. As well, as neat as you'll have packed the items in, you can be guaranteed that they'll be strewn across the bathroom counter when the wedding is over, so assign someone to clean it up as well.

Wishing you a beautiful wedding!
