Little Things Don't Mean A Lot

Little Things Don't Mean A Lot

Little things don't mean a lot. Little things mean everything. As it is written, "He that is faithful in what is least will be faithful in what is most." But what does it mean to do the little things? Little things can sometimes mean holding a door for someone, whether male or female, whether child or adult. It can also be something done that will free up another person and enable them to do something grander.

A little thing can be simply telling a friend how pretty she is today or how well dressed she may look. A little act or a kind word may unknowingly pull someone out of a rut or even depression. A little thing can be complimenting someone who held a meeting at a business setting or a pasture at church after a sermon. A little thing may not be able to be seen but felt. It may not be felt right away but wasn't done for acknowledgement.

A little thing can be the changing of a flat tire for someone who may not be able them self. A little thing can be just letting someone onto the highway so they can do something for someone else. A little thing can be speaking up for someone. Things that seem little may feel really big to the person receiving it.

Those who do the little things do so without thought. They do it just because. They often are ordinary human beings doing ordinary things; little things. Saying thank you can be a little thing. Why don't people worry about the little things? Usually, it is because they don't believe it is worth something small. And outcomes of little things may never be realized but those who do little things for others on a constant basis feel compelled to do so.

A little thing can be a hand written note for someone. A little thing can be giving directions to someone who is lost. A little thing can be holding her hand without her asking. A little thing can be a prayer said for someone. A little thing can be waiting for someone. A little thing can be having patience. A little thing can be going out and vote. A little thing can be taking flowers to grandmother.

A little thing can be taking out the trash for a friend. A little thing can be telling a child hello. A little thing can be listening to someone speak. A little thing can be taking a young boy to a ball game. A little thing can be reading a story to a group of children. A little thing can be complimenting someone's cooking. A little thing can be teaching a child to tie his shoes.

Without the appreciation of little things how would we ever know about the big things?

....well you may be the captain of crunch ....but you are also the most profound and visionary thinker here in Hubland - and if the whole darn world could stop for a moment and read your words then the planet and its humanity would improve its status and just become a better place to live and learn ...... so bravo to you my captain of crunch - you can steer my ship anytime!

Hey epigramman,

I thank you for reading my hub. Profound is one of my favorite words and has lost its place in human communication. Your kind words are what it is all about.

Beautiful hub. I agree with you completely. Sometimes the bigger things people do are simply not what matters, it's all the little things in life that stick with us. A smile from a stranger can alter their entire state of being, which can cause a ripple effect to everyone they meet and see.

That's what I try to do everyday. I try to find some way to improve the life/day of anyone I meet. Every second counts.

Hello Phoebe Pike,

I thank you for reading my Hub. I really couldn't say it any better than you have in your comment and it is really appreciated. I try to live this way everyday myself; not that I don't get caught up in things that don't really matter. I like how you describe a ripple effect.

Hello sophie_allen,

Sometimes all that is needed is a little attention and it can go such a long way. Some roles I have worked in include prevention. Prevention is one of those things you can't truly measure. You can't say, I have prevented X amount of fires because you don't really know. But as long as you are doing something about it, it feels great! Thank you for reading and the kind comment.

Hi Pamela99,

Thank you for the compliment. Life is a culmination of little things. And if we are accustomed to doing little things, the big things will be even easier to do when the time comes. I aim to live this way everyday, not that I am successful at it. Thank you for reading and voting up.

Hey Hipprintz,

Some articles I have written have come straight from the heart. I feel we can get caught up in this faced paced world so easily. And when we look back, hopefully, we are not regretting the important things that were possibly left at the waist side. I thank you for reading and your comment.

what can I say? A wonderful hub indeed. It is just this litte thing that I always try to abide by, see I'm in service work and the little things I do for them no matter how small like remember what they always get, or put it aside for them before they even get there so it is ready and packed, its a little thing like that, it makes their day. I like knowing that I have had an impact on someones life, and it is even greater when it is a bunch of little things for alot of people everyday. It just is one less thing for them to have to worry about. Thank God I have a memory. It makes me happy to do that.
