Love and relationship poetry

loveandrelationshippoetry

Summary

This poem was written after the breakup of my 25 year marriage to my college sweetheart. It wasn't until my divorce was final that I fully recognized my loss; my best friend, lover, security and father of two beautiful girls was gone. My experience was similar to the grief that someone suffers from after losing a loved one to illness or disease. My journey continues through self discovery, renewed interests and a zest for life. I share this poem with everyone who has loved, been loved and suffered a great loss. May your journey be joyful, safe and lead you to greater rewards.

How Could You Forget About Me

Missing you, that special someone

Our love was genuine and ever so real

A hopeless romantic in your embrace

How could you forget about me … Forget about me?

I can’t forget you

Hold me again, ever so tightly

Help me feel the warmth of your breath

Tell me now. How could you forget about me?

Forget about me

Gone are the days where you held me so long.

Now you lay next to someone else

I can’t help but wonder where we went wrong

I wanted to believe of love guaranteed

But just like the season changes

Only one heart remains

How could you forget about me?

Forget about me

Today I stand on the road, alone

My heart aches with uncertainty and sorrow

Our love lost before it was real.

I don’t understand why it took me so long

To realize you weren’t the one.

Standing alone is no easy task

But knowing there’s someone

Who will care about me?

Gives me strength to forget about us.

Tomorrow I’ll dream about loving another

Whose love is real and ever so strong

So tell me now

How could you forget about me?

I thought you were the one

I honestly believed

Of love guaranteed

But somehow you forgot about me

And now only one broken heart remains

Dear cbpoet, where are other comments on this magnificent piece? Honest. This amazes me that lots of readers havent discovered what a talented writer and poet you are. I voted up, and all but funny. I was touched in my soul with your words. Actually, I FELT your pain. Felt it cut like a Boston butcher's knife. Ive been where you are, or were. Life is not fair. What an understatement. Ive been longing to have THAT girl that I fell madly in love with years and years ago when we were both younger, but time's roadmap gave me a different route to start with, and now it's like Im lost on a backroad...not happy. Lost. No feminine company. OH well. Only the strong survive. cb, I invite you to check out my hubs if you want a good laugh. And I urge you to be one of my followers so I can keep up with your superb writing. I have Accelerated Fibromyalgia and Neurohopy...and prior to this cold weather, I was publishing as high as six hubs a week, but my diseases has forced me to slow down for the winter, but I love to read what my followers submit. Hubs is a great haven for the suffering. Sincerely, Kenneth Avery, from Hamilton, a small hamlet in northwest Alabama that looks like Mayberry on the Andy Griffith Show. And cb, Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Dear cb, thank you for your sweet remark. I promise that you WILL NOT be bored with my hubs. Im not boasting, but glorifying God for the ideas. I have though, ran a few abstract/prose poems, "losing her," "one evening at dusk" and "a final glimpse" that you might look into, but be advised...these works use entangled metaphors to the max...should be fun for you to read. You are a terrific writer, cb. Just keep it up.////Kenneth
