Tying the Knot

You can really play up the “tying the knot” theme with nautical ropes. Sailors know their knots and have developed many versions over the years.

You can include sailor’s knots in everything from key chains to napkin rings. They are a very cute addition to any nautical themed wedding!

The Ship's Wheel

Include the design of the ship’s wheel wherever you can. You can have iced cookies made in the shape or offer ship wheel key chains or photo frames. It's a very vintage yet nautical representation.

Crustaceans

Crabs and lobsters are always a fun way to celebrate the ocean. Include lobster claw shaped crackers or crab shaped key chains.

Plastic or resin crabs and lobsters at each place setting are also fun for guests to take home. Magnets, small frames, plaques, and coasters all abound with the crustacean theme.

Lanterns

Select lantern favors that are made of metal and include a votive candle inside.

You can choose to light them around the tables or just place on at each guest’s place; either way, this lighting will add to a comfortable atmosphere that your guests will enjoy.

Lighthouse

The unmistakable lighthouse icon is a welcome addition to your décor. Offer lighthouse candles, cookies, or place card holders.

You might pair the wedding favors with a lighthouse centerpiece at each table. Fill with a candle for a nice, glowing touch.

Mini lobster traps can be a very nice idea. You can offer them at each guest's place setting or set them as place card holders that guests can take home with them. It's a unique way to tie in your nautical theme at your table.

Mini Sailboats

When shrunken into miniature versions, sailboats make a fun take home favor. Everything from magnets to toy boats to picture frame favors and candles come in the sailboat design.

Have a sailboat engraved on wine glasses or satin gift bags. Chocolates, candies, and mini boxes also come with sailboat images that your guests will enjoy. These are all wonderful beach favors.

Blue and White

Including blue and white stripes on awnings and sail cloth can make a bold statement. Include favors that bear the blue and white, such as life preservers or luggage tags.

Anchors

Anchor shapes twinkled among the décor will add a festive air. Edibles with anchors frosted onto them or bottle openers or place card holders are also nice. Anchors are a common thought when people think nautical.

Dolphins

Everyone loves dolphins. Include these friendly creatures and you’ll find guests oohing and ahhing over your favors. Crystal or hand-painted miniature dolphins or dolphin cookies or candles will make a big hit.

Umbrellas

Include beach umbrellas for that nautical feel. You can have mini versions at each place and also in your drinks at the bar. You could even customize your umbrellas and set them at each place setting, depending on your budget. Adding these to a summer gift basket for each guest is also a clever idea if you are expecting a smaller wedding attendance.

How do you feel about wedding favors?

  • They're necessary to thank your guests for coming!
  • I think they're nice, but not necessarily required.
  • They're okay, I'd rather have extra cake.
  • They're overkill, leave them out.
  • I really don't have an opinion.

Treasure Chest

Have mini treasure chests made out of chocolate for a surprise favor. Or use plastic ones and fill with treats. There are plenty of ways you can make mini treasure chests work for your nautical theme.

King Neptune and Mermaids

What fun would it be to have King Neptune and his mighty spear as part of your décor? Include favors that have mermaids and place them around the King. You can really play up this theme from centerpieces to take home treats.

Adirondack Chairs

Mini white wooden Adirondack chairs that are also place card or votive holders will look fresh and inviting on your tables.

You can also find rustic twig Adirondack favors. They're just as cute and effective!

If you can, also have regular sized Adirondack chairs available for guests to lounge in at the reception to carry out the theme even further.

What a great hub! Lots of great and unique ideas. I bet it would be easy to talk my husband, the boat lover, into renewing our vows this way! ; )

I'm getting married on a ship later this year. I haven't decided if we're going to play up the nautical theme, but there are some great ideas here. Thanks!
