Super Models – Susan Boyle, dreamed a Dream

Updated on September 21, 2010

Susan Boyle

Thanks for following the series: Super Models, yet another article on my women of Inspiration. The title is Super models, but I am not referring to the Naomi Campbell’s or Claudia Schiffer’s of this world (who are super gorgeous). I like to look beyond beauty.

I look at these women from an inspirational point of view. The last two I wrote about, were Cheryl Cole – who has risen far from the Girl Band she is in. She became an XFactor Judge, recorded her own album, then became the latest face of L’Oreal Ads, all in a space of a few years. What an accomplishment for a girl in her 20s.

Pam Warren – burnt alive in a train in London, faced her fears by going on the train again for the fist time in 10 years. Due to the tragedy, she had to wear a face mask for over a year, she lost her business and was divorced by her hubby, but she is moving on strong.

The lovely lady I am writing about today is Susan Boyle, 48. She appeared on Britain’s Got Talent in April 2009.

Never judge a book by it’s cover

I’m glad I watched it. When Susan Boyle stood before the Judges – Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan, they rolled their eyes back, as if to say “here we go” the camera even took a few shot s from the audience and yould see the look on their faces, they didn’t take to her and didn’t expect any Talent from her.

Simon Cowell asked whom she would like to emulate. She replied “Elaine Paige” . From the look on their faces, they were probably thinking “In your dreams”! A few people in the audience also laughed at her comment.

She was old, she wasn’t slim, attractive? You could read it on their faces. Infact, the Daily Mail put it like this:

Middle-aged, dowdy, with thick eyebrows and an unfortunate gait, she couldn’t have looked less like a star. But Susan Boyle may be the surprise winner of Britain’s Got Talent after she stunned Simon Cowell with her remarkable voice. Unemployed and single, the 48-year-old has thick unkept hair, bushy eyebrows and downy fuzz is noticeable across parts of her face.” 10 April 2009.

.

Well…. When she started singing, even I had goose pimples. You should have seen the look on Simon Cowell’s face and the other judges. They were stunned. People in the audience had their mouths wide open. What a voice. She sang “I dreamed a dream” from Les Miserables. At the end, there was a standing ovation, the audience and judges could not believe what they had seen or heard. The judges have since apologised for looking down on her. Their Apology.

Now, she has captured the hearts of many and is a symbol of hope to those, who for years are still pursuing their dream. She came second in the competition but right now it looks like she came first. Oh! and last weekend, she sang a duet live on TV with Elaine Paige. she has also recorded a duet with Elaine Paige.

She dreamed a Dream

Susan Boyle, (also a Church worker), released her debut album called, I dreamed a dream in November 2009. In Britain, it was recognised as the fastest selling UK debut album of all time selling about 411,820. In the U.S., the album sold about 701,000 copies in its first week, the best opening week for a debut artist in over a decade.

I am writing/publishing this article on 19 Dec 09. A year ago not a lot of people knew Susan Boyle. Her audition on Britain’s got Talent was in April 2009, but now her fame has spread over the world in less than a year. It makes one ponder about life....

She reminds us never to look down on people, no matter how they look and to hold on to our Dreams.

"Modern society is too quick to judge people on their appearances. [...] There is not much you can do about it; it is the way they think; it is the way they are. But maybe this could teach them a lesson, or set an example. "Susan Boyle, The Washington Post

.

What’s your dream for the New Year? Hold on to it. It can come true

Well-done Susan.
