Ten Gifts Your Sweetheart Will Love and Keep

Who would not love and keep a gift that fits one or more of the following descriptions?

  • One of a kind, produced especially for you;
  • Practical and lasting;
  • Creation powered by affection.

Most of these gifts can be made by the giver, but will be no less thoughtful if made by someone skilled in the specific craft.

These exceptional gifts celebrate the recipients—their personalities, their interests, their favorite things and what they mean to the giver. They are also expressions of deep love.

Select the most appropriate of the following ten gift ideas which are listed in alphabetical order. Plan it carefully, and make it beautifully so your sweetheart will love it enough to keep it.

Perfect for Autograph Book and Journal

(1) Autograph Book

The giver writes the first autograph on the first page, stating an unselfish desire to have other people register their love for one who is so deserving. The last autograph is also from the giver concluding that his or her love is greater than the sum total of all the other love expressed.

Ask selected friends from any association to which the special person belongs, to register their accolades in writing. Friends separate when they change jobs, schools or addresses; but their words of affection, encouragement or even humor can have lifetime influence. Your sweetheart will love to read this over and over, and you will always receive credit for being insightful and thoughtful.

(2) Embossed Initials

You cannot go wrong with personalized gifts, especially if the gifts are functional. Your sweetheart will want to keep lose jewelry, a bath towel set, a Bible or some other favorite book with embossed initials. Consider purses for women and wallets for men. These gifts will be used with precious memories accompanying them.

(3) Fashion Layout

With cameras so readily available on cell phones and other media devices, it is easy to take pictures of the loved one (over a period of time) when you’re hanging out together. No one has to know that you're working on a project.

Compile the pictures on any digital storage device with a fashion theme on something the individual likes to wear—hats, shorts, shades, scarves, jackets, for example.

If that proves too difficult, just click at miscellaneous poses whenever it is convenient.

Present the fashion layout on device or in print when the time is right for a surprise gift.

(4) Favorite Music

The music can also be compiled on a digital storage device. Select songs your sweetheart likes to sing, or to which he likes to listen. Include your own renditions if you often receive compliments on your singing voice; or record a romantic message somewhere. This will make your tape different from any other he might have. Label it something like “Favorite Songs of My Beloved.”

(5) "Favorite Spot" Painting

Where do you and your sweetheart like to hang out together? Is there a special garden plot in the park that he likes? Or, does she already have a photograph of a scenery she really likes? It would be great to have a painting of that favorite scene. Try painting it yourself or have it done by a professional and placed in an exquisite frame. Even if your image is not on the painting (but it could be) your loved one will imagine you there. Both the favorite scene and the favorite person will be on the list of precious treasures.

(6) Glamour Shot

The glamour shot we’re thinking of is based on the idea put forward by Glamour Shots® (not the erotic portraits which requires the loved one to pose naked for the photographer): “Celebrate your unique beauty and style with a portrait photography session that puts you center stage. Glamour Shots® designs a photography experience that brings out the best in you. . . so you get exactly what you always imagined: You. Being fabulous.”

The fabulous looking image with professional hairstyle and make up, and an attitude inside exuding beauty outside will present the model in a setting of grandeur. Sure the amateur photographs are beautiful too, but the immaculate view inspires the kind of pride which makes the recipient mount his sweetheart’s picture within view for everyone to behold. Give him the satisfaction of showing off the object of his love.

Some Qualities I Love In You

Yours Forever, Bryan

(7) Name Acrostic

Here are two examples. To the right, is Brenda's name acrostic done for her by Bryan, and below is Bryan's made for him by Brenda.

They're so personal, respectful and heartwarming. It's like using the letters of their name to spell love.

They also would be attractive, printed on paper with a decorative design (like that suggested for the personalized blessing below).

(8) Personalized Blessing Plaque

The blessing can be custom made by a plaque manufacturer; or it can be inscribed on fancy paper, and beautifully framed. It will be more meaningful if the words are the giver’s own composition.

The words could express a wish or a prayer for a successful future; or if the sweetheart is an older retired person, a wish or a prayer for peaceful relaxation and a well deserved retirement. It may also be a prayer for gratitude that the two lives touched, and a request for God to shower His divine favor on the recipient.

(9) Personal Reference Guide

Most people know that there is some information they need to keep handy, but they are too busy to organize it. It may be some recipes for the cook, some quotes for the speaker, or some statistics for the writer’s favorite niche. What a pleasant surprise to receive the starting phase of this reference guide which you, the giver, can continue to help build! Can you guess how many times your sweetheart will say “God bless you”? Sometimes, it may simply be, "You mean so much to me."

Which of these gifts would be your favorite one to give?

(10) Special Memories Journal

There are many special events for lovers to remember: the first walk together, the first fine dining experience, the first glorious make up after the first silly fight. These can be chronicled with pictures as well as with words for feel good moments later in the relationship.

Love letters may be outdated, but love messages sent by email can also be printed and bound to revive the sparks occasionally. The journal can be dated to include memories within a special period of the relationship; or the memories can be placed within an adjustable binding, so more memories can be added.

Memories last forever. Let the journal be the gift that keeps on giving, adding new memories as they are made. The quality of love will also increase.

Personalized gifts for our loved ones are always in vogue! I gave my husband a personalized sweatshirt with all of our grandchildren's names on it this Christmas, and he wears it proudly! Great article!

Hi MsDora. A lot of great ideas. The article got me thinking about the ups and downs of my 17 year marriage. The ups are when I get creative and the downs are when I just do the normal thing. I always try to do something special and unique but imaginations wear thin. Your article here has given me a some things to ponder and try. Thank you for the suggestions. Bob.

First off, Robert, I will never refer to you as No Body; don't think your wife of 17 years will either. Anyway, I appreciate you joining my HubCircle. Pleased to hear that you are thinking of trying some of these suggestions. Thanks for your input.

This is a very sweet and charming Hub. I love the acrostics of both Brenda and Bryan. I would add microsoft art to it, make it very colourful, add a photo and some roses, then Frame and offer as a gift. I like the wallet, the plaque, in fact I need a wallet, but she has not listened.

I gave my wife a plaque some years ago. It said:

"I love you, more today than yesterday, but not as much as tomorrow." I've seen lots of similar versions since, and one person made it almost identical here on Hub pages. Mines was probably around 1980, written in the original spanish, on an extremely beautiful Plaque, and hung in the house for years!

Wonderful Hub. You're a true romantic. I love giving roses or bouquets.

Manatita, thanks for sharing. Like they say, it takes a true romantic to know one, but I think you're the king. The Microsoft art would be great, and for those who are Microsoft-art-challenged, I recommend the fancy paper. Keep on loving!

This looks fantastic Dora; there is nothing at all I can see that would keep it from featuring. It really is just so great and eye appealing. Let us know if it finally goes through which I would not wait to contact someone if it hasn't. I had a problem once but I kept going in to work on the hub more and that is why it did not get featured for awhile but that has been so long ago once I learned not to do that and I am sure you already know that.

MsDora 12 months ago from The Caribbean Author

Thanks for looking at it, Jackie. I just checked and it is featured. I had heard that editing the hub makes them look at it, so I did that last night, but this morning it still wasn't featured. Perhaps some HP personnel noticed my post in the forum. I appreciate your concern also your kind observations.

All of these ideas are wonderful. My sweet girl is marrying her love in June and at her upcoming bridal shower, we are having a date night jar. Everyone shares date ideas on a stick for them to have. I think I may add romantic ideas book too.

Thanks, Hugs and blessing to you always.

I like when people put something together them self. It doesn't have to be fancy. I really like music, so one of my favorite gifts is when a friend put together a compilation of my favorite Christian songs. You have provided many wonderful gift ideas - some which I have not thought about, but will think about for future gifts. I have a friend who would absolutely love the fashion layout gift.

Another creative and practical hub. Just what I've come to expect from you, Dora. My problem would be finding time to put it together, but then, isn't that the point. Love costs time. And if it's love then there should really be no sacrifice too great. Not sure I said that right, but anyway, thanks again for a wonderful and practical read!

Hi Bill, I can relate to not having the time; but this may be the only way to obtain a gift that is one of a kind. These gifts take more time than money and lovers who appreciate the attention will love and keep them.

Wonderful gifts ideas for our special sweetheart, Ms Dora! We are all about the monograms down here in the South. I love the special blessing idea. I did that for my daughter when she graduated from college. I think my granddaughters would love the name acrostic as well as my daughter. She loves those kinds of things to make her feel special. So these gifts are not limited to our sweetheart. Thank you for sharing.
