There Are Many Faces of Love

Is this the look of love?

The faces of love are all around us. Do you know the look of love? Is it in your eyes or someone else's eyes? Is it in a glance or a touch? How do you recognize the face of love? Do you know it when you see it?

You can't hide the look in your eyes. If something turns you off your eyes will often show disgust. Sometimes just looking at something makes you feel good and others can see it in your eyes. "The eyes are the window to the soul." How many times have you heard that? It is only reasonable then that love will show in your eyes.

What about our dear friend William Shakespeare?

O! let my looks be then the eloquence
And dumb presagers of my speaking breast,
Who plead for love, and look for recompense,
More than that tongue that more hath more express'd.
O! learn to read what silent love hath writ:
To hear with eyes belongs to love's fine wit.

How many times do you just look at someone to know they are in love, maybe not with you, but they're in love. You can see that special light in their eyes or a little twinkle, they just can't hide it.

Expressions of Love

Source

When a young couple is in love why do we call them 'starry eyed'? Because the look of love is in their eyes! Is that the only place you can find the face of love? Of course not, you can see the face of love in a smile or a glance. I'm not talking about a grimace, but a true smile that shows inner peace and happiness. You see it all the time but do you recognize it as love?

An older couple tenderly smiling at each other, maybe it's just a quick glance but the face of love is there. Maybe they're holding hands as they walk, totally oblivious to what's going on around them -- the face of love again. The experience of age doesn't make love diminish but grow. Years and the joys and sorrows we live through teach us not only the meaning of love but it's value in our lives. It's said that more elderly folks are finding love online...guess they don't want to be left out of the Internet generation.

That smile and face of love you see on an elderly woman might be due to the fact that science has discovered sexual satisfaction (for women) increases with age. Hmm, what happens when you hit 80? This could be a totally different face of love!

What about puppy love? Two teenagers in love showing us the face of love in their smiles and giggles. You know what though...puppy love can also be the love a child or even adult has for their puppy. The face of love shows when a child is playing with his puppy. It doesn't just have to be a child, grown-ups turn to mush around puppies and the face of love kind of slips out.

It doesn't necessarily have to be a puppy, it can be a dog, a kitten, a cat, any animal you can cuddle with and love...who'll love you back. Look at anyone with their pet and you'll see the face of love shining back at you.

Of course there's animals loving each other, the face of love you see then is in the way they treat each other or play with each other.

There's love at first sight, love in the air, feeling the love, when a man loves a woman, falling in love, endless love...so very many different ways to describe love and to feel love. There's the love a mother has for her child, the love a baby has for its mother...no one needs to tell you that love is there, the face of love is evident and you can see it in their eyes.

Poems and songs have been written through the ages, all about love and the effect it has on everyone. A universal language that needs no translation because the face of love is always there.

Journey through music;

"Who Wrote the Book of Love?" "Ain't Nobody."
"With or Without You" "Can't Help Falling in Love With You."
"When a Man Loves a Woman" "Love Is a Many Splendered Thing."
"Dream Lover" "Make Love to Me"
"Stop! In the Name of Love" "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling"
"Love Takes Time" "How Am I Supposed to Love Without You?"

And the beat goes on....Look for the faces of love all around you, you'll see it everywhere, everyday and if you're lucky enough, it'll be your face showing the face of love.

I'd love to hear what you think about the faces of love and whether or not you see them around you.

...but most of all I wish you love.

Compassion, understanding, tolerance, affection and...love, just a few feelings many animals can show, including humans.

This is such a great hub to read at the end of a long day :) Loved all the pictures especially the one with Grandpa. Is this the St. Bernard you've been telling me about? Wonderful dogs, all of them.

What a sweet hub! It made me think of how I can't look at my kids without smiling sometimes (which makes it hard when they've done something wrong and I have to be stern!lol).

"All we need is love", right? :)

Thanks Effer, I'm a proud grandma, obviously. Without the circle of love we'd all be in trouble.

I thought that Dusty would be a nice touch.

Prairieprincess so glad you enjoyed and thanks for sharing.

Billy, hopefully we can always fall in love, over and over again.

Cleaner3, even if we don't express it, take the time to share the look of love.

It's a great thing to show, from the animals to the humans, you're so right Bob.

Just Ask Susan, glad you enjoyed and yes, that is our St. Bernard...you can see in that picuture what a sweetheart he is.

jaswinder64, isn't it wonderful that love is everywhere?

Faith Reaper, His love is what started it all! Have a good one.

ThePracticalMommy, I know what you mean, sometimes I have to turn my head away when my grandson does something wrong 'cause I don't want him to see me smiling. How right you are, all we need is love!

Love is very abstract word, it changes its meaning every time.

I appreciate your point of view.

I think Vinaya, that is why there are so many faces of love - so many different things to different people at different times.

As Ruchira says this is truly previous, Mary. I like to see the look of love and I hope my near and dear could see that in my eyes forever. You have beautifully captured the starry eyed sentiment through your words here. It is all too easy to forget the look of love and convey disappointment, frustration or sheer fatigue. This is a timely reminder to keep the look of love burning bright. up/shared.

Enjoyed this so much. Some of us remember puppy love; understanding little of the true meaning of love. For many of us who have been married a long time, love endures, is resilient and seems only to grow stronger as we age. We may long for the love of our youth that was filled with passion, "piss and vinegar" and the memories that were created wrote our love story which has sealed our hearts with strong cords tied together with gentle caresses and sweet kisses.

tillsontitan profile image

tillsontitan 4 years ago from New York Author

How right you are Mohan, it is always the ones we love the most that get to see the worst in us!

Fiddleman your comment is so spot on! Our love story builds with each passing year.

What a nice subject for a Hub! The look of love is very obvious. I like to see older people who are still in love after many years; just that look of adoration.

I voted this UP, and will share.

I have a feeling Mary, you see that look of love often...directed at you! Thanks for reading.

Love is a splendid thing. The trick is hanging on to it forever? I've loved, been loved back and now I have Philophobia......that's why I keep a low profile and only a few close friends. I don't search for love nor do I expect to ever find it again. I am at peace. Great write my friend, I loved it all.

There are so many kinds of love Vincent....you know you are loved here in Hubville. (And I had to look up Philophibia.) Peace be with you.

La Thing, as they say "Love is a many splendored thing", no matter what kind of love it is.

It is definitely heartwarming Audrey.

Oh what beautiful faces of love here pictured no doubt about that fact!!! How adorable, and one can see the pure love in their eyes. How true about seeing in others' eyes what they are thinking or feeling at a particular moment. One day I was at the store just looking around and I saw something that I just knew my granddaughters would love, and out of the blue a woman passing me said that she knew by the look in my eyes that I was thinking of someone special after seeing what I saw. I was startled at first by her comment, then realized, well, yes, the joy in my heart in picturing my granddaughters enjoying what I wanted to give to them. Don't know if that makes sense or not? Loved this hub dear one. Voted Way up to the Heavens God bless. In His Love, Faith Reaper

It certainly does make sense Faith, we can't keep our love from shining through. I guess its sometimes tinged with a little pride but it is definitely our love that shows. Thank you for reading and your blessing. God keep you safe and peaceful.
