The Game You Play

If I were you, I’d lose that line

All used up, you’re not so fine

And it don’t take long to understand

The game you play is sleight of hand

----------------------------------------------

If I were you, I’d see the sign

Your plan requires a new design

Collateral damage, another crash land

The game you play is sleight of hand

----------------------------------------------

If I were you, I’d lose no time

Youth now gone, to recombine

Leave the lies and wedding band

The game you play of sleight of hand

-----------------------------------------------

If I were you, I’d shake the grime

Thief of hearts your life of crime

Intent to seduce and then disband

The game you play is sleight of hand

----------------------------------------------

If I were you, I’d climb from the slime

Into the light a new way I’d find

Charter a new post you never manned

And lose your game of sleight of hand

----------------------------------------------

Consequences

If this one is concerning older guys who, with beer bellies, still thinking they are going to get some pretty, skinny model types, I must agree. OK Maybe I read too much into this. But boy did I ever know those types when dating. I wanted to send em all a full length mirror for Christmas. Great poem, I like it because we can read almost anything into this one we like. Enjoyed it very much.

Thank you, BoobiRant, my experience was a man in his 50's, so you could say, "old enough to be a man, but not much of one". You are very perceptive, especially in your final comment as I purposely left it somewhat open to interpretation to allow each of us to see relevancy. You got it perfectly! My basic premise was a self-centered, ego driven, vain man that needs to take stock of the damage he causes in his insatiable quest to feed his ego. He needs to grow up. Thank you for reading and your brilliant commentary.

Perhaps a more appropriate video selection Amy would have been You're so vain by Carly Simon ....

...well once again you have the best BS detector in the 'poetry' business and you never ever pull any punches but even in your pieces which are cloaked in anger your well chosen words are so sublime and written with such clarity and purpose.

I always admire your songwriting qualities and aesthetically speaking your lines have a nice smooth lyrical flow to them - and always remain very pleasing to my eye - even if the subject material is sometimes a little downbeat or cynical.

The bottom hub line here Amy is you always speak the living truth through blemishes, warts and all!!!!

And in closing I must say you have blessed me with your perceptive and thoughtful comments and that process of generosity from you has made me a far better writer and person too!

Thank you for that my friend and may the new year offer you prosperity, happiness and continued health .....and yes, more fine fine writing from you!!!!

Dear epigramman, Your suggestion is exactly what I was looking for, but escaped me. As you see, I ran with it! Thank you for that and your profound, beautiful, and most generous words, which are a constant source of pleasure to me.

Oh no, BobbiRant, I just saw the typo! Too late to change it so I offer my apologies. That's what I get for attempting to write anything before my coffee!

I think Vietnam Vet is the only one who can call Bobbi Boobi.

God bless you Amy. I loved this one and the videos. The last was very sweet.

Oh, Micky, you crack me up, man! Damn, I was hoping no one would notice. And you are right, as I sit here laughing out loud, I've overstepped my boundaries and lucky for me, vietnamvet68, always gives me a "God Bless" and has a kind and understanding heart. Otherwise, he might be pissed or worse, freaked out!!!

Ha, Ha Augustine, yes, so true! And, yet, sometimes they still hold appeal, as in Richard Gere (don't know about real life, but oh, those roles he plays). As long as a person knows what's up, literally, you are armed to take it for what's it's worth. Thanks, for your time and commentary. I enjoyed it. Merry Christmas, A.A.

You do know what's 'up' with this one, Amy. On the mark with poetry and videos. Thanks. Happy New Year. :)

I'll use your flattering comment from another of my poems and just say, "yes, you don't get to 42 (snicker) without a clue as to what's up! Thanks for your time and commentary, drbj, and Happy, healthy New Year to you!
