The Royal Wedding: British and Canadian Souvenirs

The Royal Wedding: The Official Westminster Abbey Souvenir

Source

The Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton is fast approaching; on Friday April 29th 2011 at 11am GMT, approximately 2 billion people across the world will watch the couple walk down the aisle at Westminster Abbey in London, England.

As a Canadian Citizen, and also a British Citizen, this Royal Wedding is of double interest to me.

Canada is a constitutional monarchy and our head of state is Queen Elizabeth, meaning that Prince William is also a Prince of Canada. After the wedding celebrations are over, the future heir to the throne and his bride will prepare to a tour across Canada from June 30th to July 8th. It is thought that the couple will enjoy Canada Day celebrations in Ottawa on July 1st, and may even go to the Calgary Stampede.

There are so many souvenirs available to commemorate the upcoming Royal Wedding. While Royal Mint has produced the official Royal Wedding Coin in the UK, Canada is also getting in on the action in great spirit, offering many great souvenirs to celebrate the occasion with a Canadian "twist".

Canada Post's unusual and elegant twist on the Royal Mint's Official Royal Wedding Coin is also being offered to help Canadians commemorate the occasion.

This special coin is an ideal keepsake or gift; made with fine silver this $20 coin is embedded with a sapphire colour Swarovski™ crystal element!

There are only 25,000 of these coins available worldwide.

Also available is a nickel-plated steel 25-cent specimen finish coin, which uniquely features a coloured image of both Prince William and Miss Catherine.

Another special Canadian gift or souvenir would be the Royal Canadian Mint Gift Set, comprising a one of a kind 25-cent piece which features an image of the Royal Couple's wedding bands.

This unique coin set commemorating the 2011 Royal Wedding of William and Kate makes a special gift.

While commemorative t-shirts, coffee mugs, spoons, key rings and ashtrays fill the shops in London, Canada Post has issued it's very first Royal Wedding Stamp.

Online, it's possible to send a congratulations postcard which Canada Post will deliver to the happy couple!

These, and other gifts and collectables are available at the online Canada Post Royal Wedding Shop.

I would have loved to be at that wedding. I just adore weddings in general. But I don't feel the need to have all the souvenirs. Thanks for this Hub though. It is great to "window shop."

Hi Hyphenbird, thanks for your comment. I agree that it's nice to window shop; it's amazing how many extravagant (and tacky) souvenirs are out there!

Clover: I know you will be there so I will be bugging you for all the details... Remember on Canada Day to wear you hot hot pink leopard dress and the matching hat. I know Kate and William will be delighted to see you!!! I hope you are laughing!!! I love the Canadian coins better than the British coins.

Like you I moved from England to the U.S. and I loved the wedding also when they came here, but they had such short time here.

Can't wait for Prince William and (Queen) Catherine to take over the throne

Hi writer20, they make such a great couple don't they? It worked out great for us; we were in England for the wedding and then back home in Calgary for their Canadian Tour..we were very excited. Nice to meet you here on HubPages!

Hi Writer20, the best part was doing the Westminster Abbey Royal Tour afterwards and standing right next to Kate's bouquet, which she had laid on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier. It felt very surreal!!
