Nerd Dating Site Reviews
Nerds Need Love Too
Finding a compatible companion on an Internet dating site isn't always easy, especially if you're a nerd who's only attracted to other like-minded nerds. General dating sites, such as Plenty of Fish, have a huge member base, but it can take a lot of profile searching to find someone who shares the same interests.
Niche dating sites, like the ones catering exclusively to nerds, make it a lot easier to find a nerd to date or befriend.
Nerd Passions is a large social networking site where true nerds and geeks connect for romance or friendship. It is probably one of the most popular dating sites for nerds. Like Plenty of Fish, Nerd Passions is also 100% free to join, search and email people. The site also includes a forum, blog, chat room, games and even a library of books uploaded by members.
Members of Nerd Passions also get free direct access to the entire Passions Network, which includes links for over 200 niche dating sites, some of which are additional sites for nerd dating. Those additional sites include Trek Passions, Computer Passions and Gaming passions.
The downside to Nerd Passions is that it does lack the traffic found in the big dating sites like Plenty of Fish or OkCupid. You might find there to be very few profiles to choose from, depending on where you live. Also, every site in the Passions Network uses the same design template, which makes each of their sites look and feel a little generic. On the upside, it's totally free.
Geek 2 Geek
Unlike Nerd Passions, Geek 2 Geek isn't free. Like most paid dating sites, you are allowed to create a Geek 2 Geek profile and search for a match, but a membership fee is required for forum access and to send and receive email messages from other members.
The membership cost ranges from $15 to $90, depending on whether you pay on a monthly basis, or pay for an extended number of months up front. Paying up front for a package saves the most money if you plan to use the site for at least six months or longer. The subscription cost on Geek 2 Geek is setup to automatically renew when it expires, unless you manually change your account settings. This type of billing practice has resulted in a lot of public complaints against the site.
Geek 2 Geek caters to geeks and nerds looking for both casual and serious relationships, but like Nerd Passions, the site doesn't have a large member base, so that, in addition to the membership cost, is the biggest disadvantage. However, the site could be beneficial for someone who was unable to find nerd love on paid sites like eHarmony or Match. Sign up for free and see who's in your area before paying for a membership.
Sweet On Geeks
Sweet on Geeks is a dating/social networking site for nerds. It is similar to Match.com only it's for nerds and geeks only. Sweet On Geeks gives you a free 30 day trial run. After the trial period ends, you have the choice to purchase a full membership for only $5, which is actually pretty cheap compared to other paid dating sites that cost upwards of $30 or more.
The member base on this site is a little bigger than Nerd Passions and Geek 2 Geek. However, the functionality of the search tool is a little clunky at times. When searching for females, it occasionally displays both males and females. Overall, it looks like a decent site for nerd dating and it also includes a forum, blog and a groups page.
When you find a match you're interested in, you can send a wink or an email, similar to Match.com.
