Wedding Albums To Preserve Priceless Photos

The "I do's" have been said, you're back from your honeymoon, and have finally gotten a chance to look at all the photos that were taken on your wedding day. Chances are you want to find a personalized way to display your memorable photos. More and more brides each year are ditching the traditional wedding albums and opting for a fresher more creative way to show off their pictures. One way to do this is by creating a scrapbook wedding album. Having a great scrapbooking album sets the stage for the magnificent pictures that follow. Knowing which album to use for your wedding photos is the first step in creating an album that can be enjoyed for years to come. Let’s take a look at a few things you should consider when deciding on which scrapbook wedding album to use.

You can find the best variety and compare prices of scrapbook wedding albums online.  If you’ve looked at those places and you didn’t find what you were looking for, consider visiting a scrapbook store in your area. Whether you purchase scrapbook albums online or at your local scrapbooking store, the quality of the albums should be the same.

Wedding Albums – Size Matters

The size of your wedding photo album is just as important as any other aspect of the album. There are 2 main sizes used for wedding albums including 12x12 and 8 1/2x 11.

The 12x12 gives you the most room to add photos, embellishments, and other wedding day memorabilia. If you have a lot of photos to include in your album this is probably the safest route to go. 12x12 scrapbook paper goes on sale frequently, so it’s sometimes easy to find deals for this album. For those of you planning on doing digital wedding albums this size can get costly unless you have a personal printer that you can print the pages on. Otherwise, you will have to pay someone to print them out for you.

8 ½” X 11” albums are a nice size to use for wedding albums because they can fit on your coffee table or on a shelf in your living room unlike the 12”X12” albums. These albums also tend to be cheaper so you save some extra cash. If you are using this size album it's very easy to cut the 12”X12” scrapbook paper down to fit your album size.

Wedding Albums – Binding Type

There are 3 major binding types used for wedding albums. They are 3-ring types, strap-bound, and post-bound. Each one has its own advantage.

3-ring types have several advantages and disadvantages. The first advantage is they are easy to use because they allow you to remove pages. Another advantage, in my opinion, is they are a good place for beginners to start. On the other hand, with this type you are limited to the number of pages you can hold because of the ring size, but if you plan ahead of time you can buy an album with larger rings. Another downside to the 3-ring type is when you open the album the pages are separated by the rings making two-page spreads gap in the middle.

The post-bound type allows your album to lay completely flat once it is open without the gap caused by the 3-rings. If you run out of pages in your post-bound album you can add additional pages to the back of the album. Although rearranging is a bit more time consuming with this type of album it is fairly easy to do. Each album has its own set of instructions, so read carefully, and you'll be done in a snap. I recommend this type of album for those of you that plan to do two page spreads, because they look best in this type of album.

Strap-bound albums have a strap hinge that is expandable. While laying flat these albums are much like the post-bound albums. They allow your pages to be side by side without the hinge being seen. Some of the more popular strap-bound albums provide page protectors and pages can be simply slipped in through the top of the protector like a regular photo album. The only down side to this type of album is you have to take the entire thing apart to move pages around.

Wedding Albums – Materials

There are 2 basic materials used for wedding albums. Some are better than others. Whichever of the three you decide to use for your album be sure that your wedding album design is something you will be happy with for years to come.

The most popular material used for wedding photo albums is leather. Leather comes in a variety of textures and always looks so nice and classy. If you had a very formal wedding there are plenty of leather bound elegant albums to choose from.

One of the basic materials used for these albums is cloth. Cloth albums come in so many different colors of the rainbow. Since this is a wedding album you may want to choose a cloth wedding album that fits the colors you used on your big day. Our wedding reception was Hawaiian luau themed (think outdoor party instead of formal reception) so when I made our wedding album I decided to use the bright colors from our reception for inspiration.

The most important thing to remember when buying your wedding album is to set the mood for your beautiful photos that will be inside. I hope this article has helped you to know a little bit more about scrapbook wedding albums and has enabled you to start your very creative project on the right foot.

Thanks for stopping by Brenda! :)

I was just at the book store today and although I've been married for several years now I found myself in the bridal book section looking at all types of photos, so I understand the love of wedding photos. :)
