10 Great Wedding Movies
I absolutely love a good wedding flick. There are probably hundreds of them out there. Wedding movies do make for great entertainment. However, if you or someone you know will be tying the knot soon, you could also use them to gather some ideas and a little inspiration.
Listed below are my favorite wedding movies.
These movies don’t just happen to have a wedding in them, but are wedding centered somewhere in the plot. In addition, besides only portraying traditional wedding planning stuff like selecting colors, flowers and choosing a dress, you'll come across some important issues that real brides may face. From seeing how a bride handles an overbearing family, avoids turning into a bridezilla or tries to maintain friendships, you just may be able to relate.
Father of the Bride
Daddy's little girl is getting married! I could tell that it is not always easy to give a daughter away. In this movie, it's great to see the bonding of the bride and father of the bride before the big day. This very comical and feel good movie centers around planning a very nice backyard wedding.
My Best Friend's Wedding
This movie is richly entertaining with lots of music. You can feel Julia Robert's character's persistence as she sets out to steal her best friend (the groom) from the bride. She plays along as she was asked to be the maid of honor in this yellow and lavender colored wedding. This one will have you both laughing and crying. Yet you can expect a pleasant ending.
You may have heard the expression: always a bridesmaid, but never a bride. The main character brings this saying to an empathetic visualization. It was fun to see all the different types of bridesmaid dresses she had stored in her closet from basically being a professional bridesmaid. Most of these dresses were ones that I would never wear in public unless I was in costume. Overall, this is a feel good movie that had me cheering at the end.
Our Family Wedding
Our family wedding is filled with tradition and culture. In the movie, the husband and wife to be start feeling overwhelmed as their families are playing a bigger part in the planning as they would like. Not to mention, the two dads are in competition.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding
The man of her dreams happens, not to be Greek. It's cute to see the affection the couple has for each other in this comedy packed with culture. The future Mrs. convinces her family that he is the one as she embraces who she is and incorporates Greek tradition in her wedding.
One of the fears of the best friend of the bride during the whole wedding preparation is whether or not their friendship will remain solid. I love how we see the different friendships portrayed in this movie as a bridesmaid finds herself in competition with the maid of honor. They go through some ups and downs. Yet in the end, true friends last forever.
In this comedy, two best friends, whose weddings get scheduled on the same day, go to war with each other. In the mist of the sabotaging, you can pick up little wedding ideas and inspiration here and there as they both go out to plan their special day. This is another one with a great friendship theme.
Ghost of Girlfriend's Past
Believe it or not, this is movie is centered around the planning of a wedding. In the style of A Christmas Carol, the main character is visited by 3 spirits that take him through a journey to learn about his past, future, and present during the planning of his brother's big day.
The Wedding Planner
JLo's character in the movie is a successful wedding planner who hopes to one day become a bride. She finds herself falling for the groom of one of her clients while also being pursued by a friend of the family.
Madea's Family Reunion
In this Tyler Perry film, a Paris in springtime themed wedding (that was originally prepared for the bride's sister) is the highlight of the movie. It was one of the most extravagant, elaborate and somewhat embellished wedding scenes I have watched in person or on the screen. The bride's dress was absolutely gorgeous dress! If I could do it over with a princess theme, I would want that dress!
