Winter Wedding Ideas
Ideas For Winter & Christmas Weddings
If you are thinking of having a Christmas or winter wedding, you’re in luck. There are so many festive ways to create an elegant and charming winter wedding. From your attire to the decorations, you can find winter theme ideas that are just spilling over with joy.
Here are just a few ideas and inspiration boards to get you started....
Festival of Trees
Make the theme of your wedding decorated trees. Send out invitations with pine trees on them. You can purchase live potted pine trees in just about any size. Why not anchor your reception décor with a grand pine tree? String it with lights and hang tinsel and ornaments that are meaningful to you and your family. Or, create a themed tree like all gingerbread ornaments or all nutcrackers. Your focus tree should be the most elaborate and family and friends will be delighted to help decorate it beforehand. Smaller potted trees can be centerpieces. String them with battery operated lights and the effect will be stunning. Or, spray them with artificial snow and they’ll look like you just plucked them out of the forest. Have smaller trees around the reception hall in pretty pots or urns. You can light them or just decorate them in your theme color with ribbons and balls. For favors, visit the Arbor Day Foundation and give out pine tree saplings for guests to plant when they get home. You can offer tree-shaped iced cookies, tree shaped chocolates, soaps and more.
Pine Cone Decorations
Snowflake Wedding Decor
Incorporate Snowflakes or Pine Cones in the Theme
Snowflakes are a symbol of the season so why not use them throughout your winter wedding to create a unified theme. On the above inspiration board from Here Comes The Blog, you can see how to incorporate snowflakes into your reception décor, invitations and even the wedding favors.
The scent of pine is welcoming and warm. Be sure to include pine boughs in your décor along with pine cones. You can have pine-scented candles burning and give pine cone shaped candles as favors. You can even find pine cone shaped place card holders, cookies, gift boxes and more. A cardinal on a pine bough is also a nice touch. You can bring in artificial birds from a craft store and create a fun display with pine boughs and birdseed. Below you can see an inspiration board with all kinds of ideas for incorporating the pine cone theme.
Incorporate Amaryllis Flowers
Winter is the season for amaryllis blooms. There are shades to match every color in the rainbow. Choose to grow your own months before the wedding indoors or buy in bulk from a greenhouse or florist. You can not only create amazing centerpieces, you can also carry the blooms in your bouquet. Present guests with amaryllis bulbs as favors.

Hot Chocolate Station
Have a station set up where guests can help themselves to hot chocolate. You can have a restaurant do this with a coffee urn or you can do it yourself with crock pots. Provide marshmallows, cinnamon sticks and mugs. Guests will love the authentic treat.
You can pair your theme with individual personalized hot chocolate favors for each guest at their seat. Many online companies sell winter wedding favors such as hot cocoa, coffee or tea packets where you can choose a theme such as snowflakes or pine cones and then add your names along with the wedding date.
Nutcracker Wedding Theme
Everyone loves the holiday classic, The Nutcracker. You can really have fun with this theme. Have ballerina figurines, a mouse king statue, ballet shoes, toy soldiers and more. You can have music from The Nutcracker playing as guests arrive. And you’ll surely want a huge nutcracker statue as the focal point of the room. Have a doll dressed as Clara, the central figure in the story. You can find ornaments and toys that celebrate this theme. Give out tiny nutcracker favors and have whole nuts, figs and berries in baskets on each table. Or, give out the soundtrack to the ballet on CD. For the children, have the DVD of the ballet playing in an area just for them. Let your imagination run wild and this theme will come to life.
Poinsettia/Pine Cone Centerpiece Video
There is nothing more gorgeous than an array of poinsettias. They come in red white and green. You can have them displayed all around your hall and in the church or synagogue. Wrap the pots in festive papers or cellophanes. Encourage guests to take them home at the end of the evening. Offer poinsettia shaped soaps or chocolates. Have poinsettia table cloths and napkins. Just remember if you have small children attending that poinsettias can be poisonous if eaten.
