   Ladies:  How do you feel about being called maam?

   It used to kind of bug me a little - but it doesn't now.  I recognize that in many parts of the country "ma'am" is nothing more than a sign of respect. 
   
   What I really don't like are the long drawn out maaaam.. can I help you? - that to me suggests someone thinks I'm dumb or something lol I don't know I just find that annoying.. but otherwise I take it in stride. 
   
   I haven't been a miss for quite some time - but I still feel young at heart and probably still will when I'm 80 so bring on the ma'am's

   That term isn't really used here in Australia , they sometimes say "have a nice day love " !  I guess it might make you feel respected, never thought about it !

   I like being called Ma'am; it makes me feel respected. But I live in the Deep South where we were raised to say Ma'am and Sir to just about everyone.  Another good thing about being called Ma'am is you see there are still some kids with upbringing.

   I actully dont like it I dont know why but I would rather be called by my name i feel like im old or something i think its some what disrespectfull

   It bothers me not.
   
   Having three daughters, I have always addressed them as  "little mam"
   
   I was a  young mother, and a very  young grandmother.  My two grandchildren call me " Mam".......no variance of 'grandma".
   
   It bothers me in no way.

   It is an art of respect to a woman and i feel good and emotionally, socially, psychologically secure with great confidence to oneself.

    I can't say that I like being called 'ma'am'.. I'm still in my twenties, so I feel more like a 'miss' even though I'm a 'mrs'... It's a conundrum. I feel like 'ma'am' is more for my grandmother, an older, respectable woman, than for me. Most people just use it as a sign of respect, I guess, so I shouldn't feel bad about it!

    It depends on who says it. If I am in an authority role, I feel it applies. I expect it and want it.
    
    But, if it is in casual conversation it makes me feel old. Its respectful so I do not get offended. But, I think I would rather they said "have a nice day love!" or honey or something. That would leave me feeling better as well as respected.

    Not old.  Respected, proud, a sense of accomplishment.  I kind of like it. However,  most of the people calling me this are my own age and a lot older than me. I was raised that this word is to be used in politeness towards our elders, so that's kind of weird to me.

    For me it depends on the circumstances and how it is said.   Some people have a way of saying "ma'am" in which it comes out very degrading - they may as well be saying "you pain in the butt".   I know that actually "ma'am" is supposed to be  respectful, but sometimes it does make me feel kinda old ( which I am) but which I try to forget about.  I don't feel old...

    I am a young woman, but as a teacher I get called "ma'am" all the time. I try to tell them to either call me by my first name (if the school allows that) or say "miss" instead.
    
    I do not think it matters, though. Whatever you are called, you are still the same person.
