   that they were liars! LOL!! watermelons DON'T grow in your stomach when you swallow the seeds, your eyes DON'T stay crossed and my mother did NOT have eyes in the back of her head!
   I found myself repeating these same myths and then stopped when I found my son eyeing me suspiciously. He was too smart and I just wasn't a good liar

   So many things it is hard to encapsulate and especially to someone I don't know...but basically how much they sacrificed for me and my sister and the heartache they must have gone through making some very hard decisions. Also little things, like I get why my Mom always asks what I want to eat and why she always has such trouble saying goodbye on the phone...

   Mostly, I wondered how they ever endured me while I was growing up as I now realize I was not as angelic as I thought I was:)

   I learned to appreciate the sacrifices they had to make in terms of time w/ each other and the way they had to budget for private school and college for 3 kids. I also have learned just how much patience and tolerance is involved in raising children  and how tiring it is. I have come to understand the fierce protectiveness a parent feels and the helplessness of seeing your child in physical or emotional pain. I learned how it feels to burst w/ pride and to well up with tears when watching my daughter sing in choir, make a speech, or receive an award.  No one ever told me the pain I'd feel as an empty-nester.  My mom and dad are no longer here, but I've learned that they were really loving parents with my best interests at heart. It was a tough job. I was opinionated and difficult as a teen. They hung in there and didn't cave.  I hope that my daughter and I will be best friends someday as my mother and I became when I reached my late twenties.

   My parents are my biggest inspiration. I learnt a lot from them. Both my parents has done so much for me throughout my life- they took good care of me; they taught me how to be a good human-being; they pampered me but at the time they disciplined me; they motivated me in my studies and career; they acknowledged my talents a lot; and above all they brought plenty of love and happiness into my life. My parents always ensure that i am healthy, well-educated and well-behaved. My parents often said that my happiness is more important than their own happiness- this quality touched me and encouraged me to be a good parent in the future.
