Depending on how much you want to spend you might consider taking a drive down to the Central Coast ( San Luis Obispo) area. You might look into staying at The Madonna Inn. If you aren't familar it is a hotel whose rooms are built into mountains. One very popular room is the Caveman room.
If that hotel seems too gawdy for you then continue down the road and check into The Cliffs Resort (located in Shell/Pismo Beach area) They have some incredible ocean view rooms along with a killer Sunday Brunch. http://www.cliffsresort.com/
A few minutes down the road is Mo's Smokehouse BBQ http://www.smokinmosbbq.com/
While you're in the area if you have never visited The Hearst Castle you should check it out. I believe they have 5 different tours. My favorite is the evening tour. During that one they have actors who dress and re-enact the period. http://www.hearstcastle.org/tours
The Central Coast also offers lots of shops, restaurants, and wineries if you enjoy wine tasting. Whatever you end up doing I'm sure you will have a great time.
