Bernie Ecclestone's wife doesn't seem to have a problem with his height. Then again he compensates elsewhere... Come on, use your imagination. Generally, though, women like a man who's taller - at least by a factor of heel height X 2, so there's some support when she has to take one off when they get painful after an evening out. Older women look for other factors, like the intimidation factor. Witness Norah Batty in "Last of the Summer Wine", whose husband Wally was about two-thirds her size.
(Ever see the naughty picture postcards at the seaside?)
For myself - and I'm a bit old-fashioned on this score - I prefer to be a bit taller than the wife otherwise I feel like a dwarf. There are some pretty tall women out there these days, who tower over me. I'm about 5'-9" (1.72m), although if I'd never taken up smoking at thirteen, I'd have reached over 6' I'm sure.
