If you get up in the middle of the night do you turn lights on or pad around in the darkness?

Walk around in the darkness for two reasons:

First, my eyes are already adjusted to darkness, so as long as there is a little bit of light (from the moon or a night light) I can see just fine.

Second, turning on lights makes me wake up more, which makes it harder to go back to sleep. Thus, in the morning, I try to let lots of sunshine in. But during the night I try to keep lights dim or off to help me get to sleep and stay asleep.

Well, we always have a low light on because I don't see well in the dark. Putting the lights on would be disruptive for my hubby so it's a compromise, as are a lot of things in marriage. It works okay for us both.

Walk in the darkness. I have my entire home mapped out in my mind. Four steps, shuffled of course, to the end of the bed. Three to the right, five to the left and I'm in the hallway.

Yes, I walk in the darkness as well. The only thing that throws me off is our golden retriever. I never know where he is so I have to be careful! I went to stepover him one night and he stood up, which threw me into the wall..broke my hand!!

Ouch! I hope your hand recovered well... My cats do the same thing. They are both dark and blend in with the rugs in the hallways. Animals, the bane of our stumbles in the dark.

Usually I make my way in the dark.  Last night for some reason I turned the light on in the bathroom and saw something very strange in the hall.  Thought it was a mouse but it moved really in a strange way--and I realized it was flying low, back and forth.  It was a bat. Woke up my husband and we tried getting it out of the house. It flew downstairs and now we can't find it.

So from now on, I will always turn the lights on.  Hope the bat got out!!

In my house, there is some form of lighting where I can see when I wake up in the night for the toilet.

The moonlight is always lit brightly unless on the day there is no moonlight I will still able to rely on the lighting in my house.

We have a nightlight in the bathroom that illuminates the area around the door. For the trip back to bed, my 35 year old LED digital clock guides the way.Yes, it is at least 35 years old. It was a give for my Dad and I got it after he died. He died a couple of years before I met my wife and we were married a year later, so I can verify that it is 35 years old.

Rest of the house is equipped with nightlights.

Since I have roommates, I stay in the dark. I just take the stairs really slowly (also use the downstairs bathroom so as not to disturb anyone. I seem to remember staying in the dark when I was living alone as well. Never understood that "falling in the toilet" complaint. Close the door and turn on the light so you can see what you're doing!

Don't need to turn on the light - enough lights around the apartment complex and street lamps. so much so I can't see the stars at night.
