I wish my mom had tried harder to get me to stay with violin lessons.  It's one of my few regrets in life that I quit.  How pretty it sounds!

I wish my family was more supportive instead of turning against each other like a civil war.

I'm sorry to hear that, you're not alone, a lot of families are like that, too much jealousy and anger, i hope your family now turned out well without that.

I wish my dad would have stayed more involved with my life. After I hit 12 or 13, he seemed to almost withdraw from me. When I was younger, he had encouraged me to be active and do well in school, but suddenly it wasn't a priority for him to do so anymore. I think, had he stayed involved, I would have stayed in sports and done better in high school. I probably would have gone to college immediatly, which would have opened a lot more doors for me.

Excellent question! This is a great way for parents to see what they should be doing differently with their own children!

Thanks Steadman11! I assume your parents got divorced early on in your life. When you grew older,  did he changed? was he able to communicate with you better when you became an adult?

yes, my parents divorced when I was 3, and I grew up with my dad. We grew even farther apart, the older I got. When I had my first child, I thought for sure it would be a turning point for our relationship, however, nothing has really changed.

everything....and nothing.  Growing up in foster care sucked, (to put it nicely) but if i hadn't been brought up the way I was then I wouldn't have met the people I know and love now.  My happiness now definitely makes up for my sadness as a child!  All worth it smile

Where to begin.  First of all I would not have been an only child.  Secondly, my parents would not have been alcoholics and while my parents loved me, they did not participate in my schooling - PTA, Christmas programs etc.  I would have loved their interest in that.

Now, nothing's wrong with being an only child, it is how a child is raised and the child's immediate environment.

My father would not be an alcoholic, and my parents would not have been so protective of me. They would have been proud of my accomplishments. They would not have believed praise gave me a swelled head, I still loved them. They needed to get rid off some beliefs.

Okay, this may sound like a horrible thing to say, but please stay with me on this. My parents divorced just before I went into middle school, and honestly I wish they had separated sooner. When they divorced, I felt like I saw my mother more and that my dad was much better, and both of them listened to me more. The process for my family was very mild, fortunately.

Many parents fail to understand that sometimes, getting divorced will be BETTER for the children. Glad to know that your parents realized it and acted upon it!
