Who does the majority of cooking in your household, you or your significant other?
Many cultures or families have well defined roles of 'who belongs' in the kitchen...what is your experience? Do you cook and your partner stays out of your domain or vice versa?
Well, I am not married and live with my parents... I've been cooking a lot lately, sometimes more than my parents...hehe...
I love to cook!!!!!!! It is fun and exciting and usually tastes better than cooked food from the store...
Totally with you on that one. I've really come to enjoy cooking these past ten years. Much different when I was first married with young kids AND when I was remarried but working full time.
Hi Denise. I do most of the cooking. My husband likes to make the coffee and his own eggs in the morning. Besides that, I do the rest.
Hi Debby-thanks for responding. So far the gals have it in the kitchen.
At least, the people who originally commented tell us the women take on the bulk of the cooking. As the comments pour in, we can see the trend changing.
I live alone now, but have always been the primary cook in the home.
Hi Linda-thanks for stopping by to answer the question. I think traditionally the woman has been the family cook...although a couple answers here surprised me. Take care.
Whoever is home, and has the time - cooks. We both have our strengths in the kitchen and depending on what we feel like is another way we decide who cooks.
But the truth is my husband is Italian, and he has an amazing knack for making everything taste incredible. I don't. So even though his mother (who is very traditional) would never let him cook in her house, he does the majority of the cooking in our house.
Thanks! I hear you-my late husband was Italian and he was a wonderful cook! My kids and I learned a few recipes from him that were his favorites.
Interesting question.
When I first was married 6 years ago I was on a quest to make everything 50/50. After eating a very bland-yet-well-attempted dinner, I realized I LIKE cooking and I like how I cook. Now, I do almost all the cooking. My husband may do some reheating or may prepare something quickly if needed at times.
This just seems to work for our household. I think its important for each person at least know what they are doing if the other were unavailable but it makes sense that we may pick and choose what our main chores are based on skill and interest.
Nice answer. I agree. I was contemplating this as I stood over the stove today making a slow, homemade chicken noodle soup while the guys in the household worked on the yard.
I am one very blessed woman. My husband is an excellent cook and enjoys cooking. I, while a decent cook, hate the activity. In the four years we've been together, I've cooked dinner probably five times. He does the majority of the cooking for every meal, but I make one heck of a good breakfast and do that occasionally. There are also a couple of things I make that he enjoys immensely and requests every now and then. I always oblige. The kitchen is his. To create in, to equip, and to decorate as he sees fit. He leaves the rest of the house to me.
There is also no housework that he will not do - laundry, vacuuming, cleaning the bathroom. The only thing I do consistently is to clean up after the cat.
Like I said, I'm blessed!
VERY BLESSED! Good for you. Thanks for your answer.
My husband retired a couple of years ago and now we pretty much split the duties. Before that I did the cooking most of the time, or we were on our own for dinner.
Cool-thanks! Whatever works best, right?
I was the main cook for many years. In the past year, my husband has found an enjoyment in cooking and has taken over this responsibility. I enjoy his cooking as he is pretty good at it.
Cool--My husband always enjoyed cooking. I am learning to love cooking more and more!
Just me...if you are talking about a real meal. My husband might boil ramen or open a can of chili...but he won't even try to cook anything else. Unless it is outside. I guess men feel more manly cooking outside. I can hand him anything and he will cook it outside, but the same thing on a stove? No way!
That's interesting...maybe he isn't confident in the kitchen? Thanks for commenting.
Ha... my husband can't even make toast! lol. I do all the cooking, which is fine because I love it and I find great satisfaction making food for others. I think I'd feel territorial if he got into cooking, lol.
That's funny! Lucky for him he has YOU I also enjoy cooking for my family.
My husband cooks everything. He plans a menu at beginning of the week and we have marvelous meals. I don't like to cook. I did it when we first married, but when we were in our 30s, he started to do more and I gradually left it to him. Now I make corn bread dressing twice a year for TG and Christmas, and that's the extent of my cooking. We both like it that way. He cooks and cleans the kitchen and washes the clothes. I fold and put the clothes up and do the dusting, vacuuming, and any and general cleaning. He does a much better and more consistent job than I do, but it all gets done. We will have been married 47 years in January, so something is working, I guess. And yes, I stay out of his domain. I'm not allowed in the grocery store with him because I"m an impulse buyer and he hates that. He has a list and sticks to it.
What a great deal...oh, I can relate to the impulse buying. I try not to, but I partially stick to a list and then buy a few more things...
My husband does all the cooking, but I do all the baking. Works well for us!
Generally, my wife gets the dinner ready while I play with little'n after work, but on the weekends and the occasional midweek feast I will cook something more experimental for the fun of it. Just recently I made pork, apple and sage with spring vegetables.
Cool-that recipe sounds good-did you write a hub about it?
75% of dinners are made be me only
10% we make together
10% are purchased
5% are made only by him
Wow...Amazingly analytical...I've never seen an answer quite this exact. Thanks for commenting.

If you had to do without one of your five senses and could choose, which would it be?This is not meant to be derogatory towards anyone with a handicap, merely a question about choice.

Should a man help out in the kitchen or with other chores around the house?Studies have shown that most women are displeased with their husbands because the said husbands do not help with household chores no matter how little, leaving everything to the wife.

Can we fight, perhaps as a soldier or otherwise, yet still love our enemies? If yes, why?
