   It depends on the two people involved, how long they have been apart, and where they are mentally in their lives. Ideally both have gained some wisdom. If neither person has changed much then odds are the couple will have the same "end results" as they had before.

   In most cases, I say that an ex is an ex for good reason and not to rekindle that relationship. If the issues are not resolved then it will be a repeat and not healthy at all.

   This is a good idea unless you are not dating someone else at present, because then you will cheat the current flame. Even if not, then you have to think on why did you get apart that time. Was this you who ditched on him, or he did to you. In both cases, it is surely not a good idea to go for that person again. Because who knows that again in future it will not happen, even if you or your 'old flame' would found some other person more attractive. If there were some other issues, like regular fights on petty things or anything, then those should be get resolved first with complete satisfaction to both partners and only after that, go ahead.

   From experience it is unhealthy.  It drove me up the wall.  The person displayed all I desired in a partner but it was only pretence and sooner than later the truth unfold.  A leopard never changes their spots.
   
   But every relationship has its own merits and demerits.  So it really depends.  If both party are honest and true to each other and decide they want the relationship to work; knowing that both party has to compromise and work towards it.  Then I believe a healthy relationship can be born and will withstand the test of time.
   
   @Esenbee some old flames can brightly burn but some will definitely blow out.
   
   These are my personal views.

   I have a quote for you and I hope it doesn't offend you Einstein said "Doing the same thing over and over and expecting the same results is the definition of insanity". I've tried with one ex three times and it always ended the same way. I recently am divorced and have thought of all the things I did wrong and maybe if I could be different we could be back together, but I realize we can't change who we are no matter how hard we try. I'm not a bad guy I just cant find the right person to understand me and love me for who I am. So my advice is no let bygones be bygones and go out there and find someone new is gonna treat you right.

      I totally agree with you there and no I'm not offended at all by that statement. I believe that people come and go in our lives for a reason and we most definitely need to learn from that situation
