I don't think there's such thing as 'becoming just too good at communicating'.
If people can't seem to communicate their feelings that is not 'too good'. Not everyone can understand everyone 100% of the time, regardless of any situation. Nor can people understand one another if they didn't spend some time to communicate. Understanding needs time and willingness to well... understand.
The thing is that understanding is a long time process and if it looks like relationship collapses due to 'communication failure' that can mean that there weren't good communication over a period of time, it doesn't just happen in no time.
So better communication was needed but for some reason it just didn't happen.
So I think more often than not we still have room to improve.
Cats and dogs are not the only ones who need more work in this area.
