What would make a guy disrespect a lady who he claimed to love?

I watched the Maury show and felt pity for this beautiful lady who claimed to be madly in love with this guy. The guy in return treats her like s--t, he subjected her to prostitution to make money for the family. I felt utterly disgusted and this kept me thinking, why would he do such a thing? Perhaps there are some good guys out there that can help me out.

A man that does not know what love is, and have not allowed himself to love a woman. If he truly loved her, it will break his heart to even think about disrespecting her in this manner.

With stories like this you will often find that the man has encountered one or more of these:
    - he has a low self-esteem/self-image
    - he was raised in a family where his parents had similar issues
    - he was in a previous relationship with similar issues
    - he has not matured to the point of understanding what love and trust in a relationship truly means.
    - he is from an area where these types of activities are common & has witnessed them to the point of believing it is the "norm".

He does not respect himself.  He is incapable of respecting her. She is allowing him to disrespect her by continuing in this situation.  Hopefully, she will wake up and run . . . not walk away from this sad situation.

Talk shows are not always true.  They take part of the truth and exaggerate it to look worse than it is.  The question is; why would anyone subject themselves to such a show.  The reason, the producers will lie to get you on there.  The promise of help is always a lure.

Yes, I was on a talk show.  It embarrassed me beyond anything I could ever imagine.  And Yes, I did write a Hub about it.  I am not proud of my 15 minutes.

    Reasons
    1. he dosent realize what he said or did affected her
    2. He is showing off for others
    3. Its a manipulating tactic
    4. He really dosent care
    5. Thinks it makes him more manly

Thanks  All, nice contributions but i would like to react to Sweetsusieg's comment. Even if talk shows are exaggerated, i believe there must be an element of truth in whatever issue is being discussed. We can't rule out the fact that some men do disrespect women, according to Mom kat, men with low self esteem. But why should a woman allow herself to be so ridiculed? Could it low self esteem and lack of confidence on her part too?

In that case, I would say that the guy doesn't actually love her at all. People can say the words "I love you" all they want, but the bigger question is, how do they show it? And showing love to someone isn't just about buying them things or asking them to marry you or actually getting married, it's about trust, respect, and bonding. Any guy that truly loves a woman will think long and hard before disrespecting her because for one, if he truly does love her, he wouldn't want to hurt her.

He was a piece of garbage to begin with.  He is not a real man to begin with more like a monster.  Why would she love him?  Could be how her family treated her growing up.  Maybe she see how he treats her as love?
