Resolve the issue, either directly or by accepting it.  If you just try to "forget it", and it is one of those types of situations that simply can't be forgotten, you'll end up spending more effort trying to not think about.

Memory is there whether you want it or not. You cant just delete one part of your life in an instance. Time heals everything. You ask how to forget the past? My answer you don't need to forget it, you need to put up with it. Facing it and saying I'm good with my past, is the best way to deal with that. Life is too short to live in your past. Just put up with it and move on. Because living in the past is moving backwards, not forward.

Before you're able to forget the past you have to let go. You have to let go the hurt or any memories associated with it and wait patiently. Time heals wounds.

Why would you want to? Whilst it hurts so badly at times, these trials, heartbreaks, deaths, triumphs and joys inform who were are as a person.

If we forget our past, we are likely to repeat the same mistakes. Learn from the events in your past and accept them. Then you'll be at peace with what has happened.

Stop focussing on forgetting the past.
Thinking about what you don't want to think about is draining.
Instead focus on the future and all of it's possibilities.
When the mind is idle that is when thoughts go all over the place. However once you (focus) on a goal in the future you don't have time to concern yourself with the past.
