Friendship: Quotes and Sayings
"Good friends, good books and a sleepy conscience: this is the ideal life."
-- Mark Twain
A while ago I compiled some of my favorite friendship quotes for a friend who was feeling down. After reading them, he suggested I turn them into a hub, so I am taking his advice. Enjoy!
A true friend knows you and likes you anyway.
They know your smile and laugh as well as your faults and temper, and guess what? They are still there. They still like you, even when they have seen you ugly. And don't we all get ugly at times?
Some friends are for a reason and others just for a season but a true friend is a forever friend. They have your back no matter what!
Reminds me of a Musketeer!
A friend is someone who dances with you in the sunlight and walks with you in the shadows.
"Into every life, a little rain must fall," but a friend is always there.
The wonderful thing about friends is that they can grow separately and yet not grow apart.
Friends don't have to take the same paths in life to remain friends.
Your greatest asset is not the quantity of your friends, rather the quality of your friends.
I would much rather have a few good friends than a bunch of fair-weather friends.
Surround yourself with people who make you laugh. Life is too short to be anything but happy.
If someone always brings you down, are they really a friend?
One spark of randomness can start a fire of hilarity which burns down the house of seriousness.
More laughter! A true friend can make you forget that there is anything to be serious about.
A friend will ask you what's wrong when you're crying, a good friend will ask you with a loaded shotgun. A best friend will just inform that its taken care of.
I wonder, could I ever be a best friend? I know I have wanted to...
Anybody can listen to your problems. A friend will give you advice to try to make you feel better. A best friend will tell you the truth--good, bad, or ugly.
They even have hot-lines for problems... but a best friend says the hard things and asks the hard questions.
Our friends are the fruitcakes of our lives--some are nutty, some are soaked in alcohol, some firm, some sweet, but all together, great to have in our lives!
I like fruitcakes... Do you?
"I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best."
-- Marilyn Monroe
More Friendship Sayings
Its not about who's real to your face, its about who's real behind your back.
Anyone can be sweet to your face. What they say and do behind your back counts for so much more!
Don't confuse a good man with a man who appears to do good things.
Some only appear to be good. Look at the fruit of what they do before deciding.
Your soul friend is someone who loves you for what you are, accepts you for what you lack, and still gently invites you to grow.
Another way I have heard it put is 'A friend loves you too much to just let you be.'
Someone is a true friend when you say something that doesn't even make sense to you, but they understand what you mean.
Have you ever had a friend like this? If you have, you know what is meant.
The good friend isn't necessarily the one who immediately understands--it's the one who cares enough to keep trying to understand.
And when they don't understand, no matter how much you understand what you are trying to say, they keep trying. and trying. and trying. They don't just give up on you.
"Remember what I said about being friends? That still goes. Friends stand by each other, through everything. I'm your friend."
--Pete, to MacGyver, 1985
And a few sayings for laughs...
Pessimists say the cup is half empty, optimists say the cup is half full...I say either way it's not going to be enough coffee.
I feel like this every morning...
I'm a pessimistic optimist. I am positive the world is going to hell.
Need proof? Just take a look at politics...
People who say I'm difficult to shop for apparently don't know where to buy beer.
Make mine a dark beer, from a micro brewery... None of that lite stuff, please.
Have faith that no matter what is thrown your way, you can and will make it through; unless it's an 18 wheeler, then you're screwed.
Just some more of that optimistic pessimism stuff. :)
Be honest... nobody will believe you.
This reminds me of what Mark Twain said, "Fiction is obliged to stick to possibilities. Truth
"Life is just one damned thing after another. Don't waste time taking it to seriously. You'll never get out alive anyway."
-- Elbert Hubbard
