3 Mistakes Men Make When Online Dating

Updated on March 10, 2010

Online Dating Mistakes

Online dating has become a wonderful way to meet women, and a lot of guys have had a lot of success with it. Unfortunately a lot of guys have also failed miserably at online dating. Invariably this is because they make some fairly fundamental mistakes. You have to remember that online dating is not the same as dating in the real world, you have to alter your approach. The three mistakes that are far and away the most common, avoid these and you will greatly improve your chances of success.

The biggest mistake that men make is being over aggressive. In almost all cases this will scare the woman off. There are serious safety issues for women when it comes to online dating, if you press to hard for a meeting you will frighten her. When dating online you have to take it slowly, you will need to build up a relationship through emails and later phone calls before she even considers meeting you. Online dating really isn't a place to get laid quickly, although a lot of guys seem to think it is, online dating is about building a relationship.

A lot of guys go into online dating with completely unrealistic expectations about meeting a perfect, super hot woman. The reality is that this is pretty unlikely. The women you meet online will be just like the women you meet in the real world. If you can't get a hot girl offline, you probably won't get one online either. This doesn't mean you should just settle, it does mean that you have to be realistic. Everybody has flaws, you have flaws, expecting the women you meet online to be perfect will just set you up for disappointment.

Like we just said everybody has flaws, lying about yours is another sure fire way to fail at online dating. Sooner or later she is going to find out the truth and that will pretty much end the relationship, the last thing you want to do is set her up to be disappointed. Of course you should make yourself sound as good as possible in your profile, just make sure it's actually true.

Online dating is not rocket science, there are certain things that you should and shouldn't do. Once you know what these things are you will have a far better chance of meeting the woman of your dreams. It is important to remember that online dating takes time, if you try to rush it you will likely fail. And as always, honesty is the best policy.
