Roommate Rant::Are Women Insane?
Men and Women
Women are Insane! As I look at the title inspired by my roommate, I can only laugh and shake my head.
However, upon further review, I find myself contemplating the remark and wonder, "Are women insane?" Possibly. In fact, probably.
I mean, how can women be scared to death of bugs and insects, to the point of hysteria, yet willingly pour hot, boiling wax on their legs and rip the hair roots right out with no problem (I stole that one from Jerry Seinfeld).
Although "we" as men would love to give women the insane label as a possible explanation to their bizarre behavior, it would be way too convenient to lump every single woman into that category. Besides, that would mean men fit into that one size fits all label that women like to put us in with the likes of pigs, dogs, and insensitive asses which may be more accurate anyway.
In actuality, men and women are just different and sometimes the reactions of women, in particular, are a little (pause for effect here) uncomfortable. My roommate has run into this reaction from time to time, and undoubtedly, he has an opinion. So without further ado, I proudly present yet another fantastic and glorious diatribe that I like to refer to as: The Roommate Rant.
This rant actually starts with me. At the time, I had a little stunt with my girlfriend who will remain anonymous for the sake of privacy. I don't remember the details of the argument (for it was a while back), but I'm sure I was unintentionally the "insensitive ass" that I mentioned earlier and probably wore the label well. What I do remember is her reaction. She gave me the cold, silent treatment that can only be described as beyond excruciating and is about the most painful experience any man goes through in a relationship.
I remember explaining the whole ordeal to my roommate, providing my own little skewed version of the story (of course), and I said, "I'd rather she was just angry and scream at me. This just sucks! Why does she have to react this way?"
What happened next has remained stuck in my mind for some time now because the reaction was both unexpected and one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Throughout my little rant, my roommate remained calm and almost seemed nonchalant about the whole thing. But as soon as I asked, "Why does she have to react this way?" he snapped and gave the most intense face I've ever seen and said, "Because they are fucking insane, man!"
I think I remember him breathing heavily and fuming from the mouth, although that may be my imagination kicking in now. But he didn't stop there. To my surprise, the roommate continued with a passion that was so surreal that I thought he was actually reliving a past experience right then and there.
He continued, "There is no explanation! The problem is you're trying to rationalize craziness. She might have her little quirks and things that you love about her, but in end, she's nuts. They are all the same, that's what I've been trying to tell you, man. Women are crazy! That's it!"
He then referenced a scene from the movie As Good As It Gets when a woman asked Jack Nicholson's character, "How do you write women so well?"
Nicholson's responds, "I take a man and take away reason and accountability."
My roommate then shrugged and went back to what he was doing.
Are Women Insane?
The fact of the matter is men and women are just wired differently. This very phenomenon was fully explained in John Gray's, Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus.
Remarkably, the crazy thing about this whole scenario is that both men and women are aware of these differences between the two sexes, yet both genders feel compelled to fight against it. Ultimately, there needs to be a truce between the sexes and both sides need to accept the differences. In the end the answer to the question is, "Yes, they are. Women are insane! And men are retarded."
