Prophet's Writings link to End Times!

The duality of the prophetic books in the Tanach!

The historical order of the books containing the prophet's writings in the Tanach (Old Testament) are biblically out of date order, for example, Lamentations and Ezekiel historically, were written before the book of Daniel.

Jonah, written in 862 B.C, the oldest of the books in the prophetic writings, was placed after Obadiah written around 587, Jonah in fact, chronologically, should have been placed before any of the prophets writings because he was the oldest of the writers. Strictly speaking Jonah is not a prophetic book but God has seen fit to place it where it is in the Bible ,for a purpose.,

The aim of this hub is to establish God's purpose in HIS design of the Bible so that we receive a message and teachings not only of historical events but also of present and future events-hence the duality of the prophetic writings in the Tanach!

It appears that if you read the books as they are situated in the Bible you will find that some of the books overlap historically, for example Ezra reads the law to the Jewish people at the time of the rebuilding of the Temple and Nehemiah re-trains the Jewish people on keeping the Law after the Jerusalem walls were built, these two events occurred simultaneaously, however, most of the prophets wrote their books way before these two. When you read the content of Ezra and Nehemiah (historical writings, not prophetic writings), they actually give us a lot of information about these end times.

Let us take a journey through some of the books of writings and then through the prophet's writings to see what God is revealing to us!

Starting with Ezra, he informs us about the Exiles returning to Israel and the need to re-establish the Jewish way of life i.e. to follow Torah, to obey God, to live holy lives and to be an example and a light to the world.

Nehemiah is full of information about the re-building of the Temple and the Jerusalem walls, it also refers to persecution of the Jews by Philistines (Gaza, Ashdod etc (known as Palestinians today)). The prophets at this time were Haggai and Zechariah. Ezra 6:4.

Nehemiah continues to tell Jews how to cleanse themselves from their unrighteousness, how to get right with God again, confess their sins.

(Ezra 10) The Jews re- learn the Law of Moses and made a new covenant to God.

INTERESTINGLY, Nehemiah was the first book to refer to the Israelites as Jews, this is very significant and evidences the link to the end times -todays events relating to those mentioned in the books we are reading..

Now to reiterate so far- Before we even reach the books of prophet's writings we read that historically, and in current times, the Jews (exiles) have returned to their land - Israel . They have rededicated themselves to their God (not all -as there are many secular Jews in Israel today). They have rebuilt Jerusalem (as best they can as many areas are occupied by Palestinians) and continue today to rebuild the land and are waiting for the opportunity to rebuild the Temple. We also know that Israel is 'today' suffering from persecution and interference from the surrounding nations, particularly from the palestinians. So we have a first link to the books regarding prophesy, which has been written about and fulfilled historically, but also 'current' prophetic fulfillment! Israel has returned to the jews, exiles have and are continually returning to Israel and they have and are still re-building the City of Jerusalem.

When we read the book of Ester we see this follows on from the book of Ezra and Nehemiah as it speaks about persecution of the Jews and how God intervenes to save the people from anihiliation! We watch the news and know that Arab nations are planning to prepare for the onslaught of Israel to drive the Jews from their holy land- this is pending! It is spoken of in this book of Ester, as one man Haman, attempts to stir up antisemitism against the Jewish people with the intention of annihilating them all - so it is with the Hamas and other antisemetic organisations!

The book of Job next reminds us of God's Magnificence! It reminds us that he is creator of all things and superior to all creatures and living beings-He is the ultimate! It reminds us he is able to dictate to the world and create any events to occur at anytime He chooses. It also reminds us that he loves His people but will punish sin, self righteousness, rebellion etc. However, he rewards loyalty, uprighteousness and respect for God.

The book of Job warns against bad company, bad advise, false prophets, deceiving lying words from associates that attempt to lead us astray. It ultimately shows us God is the only one we can trust for the Truth!

Psalms teach us how to deal with this persecution, by praising and praying at all times, to our God!

Proverbs Teach us of the importance of acquiring God's gift of wisdom and to do all we can to become holy avoiding worldly pursuits. Wisdom also help us to understand what is happening in the world so that we can actively deal with it, and avoid it at all costs; preparing ourselves for the things to come.

Both the Psalms and Proverbs prophetically refer to either of the following; Yeshua's birth, sacrifice, resurrection and his return as the Messiah and Judge. King David and Solomon was informed of these event's relating to the Lord approximately 1,000 years before the events happened! (1063 B.C.)

So far we have seen each book sequentially taking us through a learning process; it provides us with knowledge of prophetic occurences and also takes us through historical events. This duality equips us with God's overall plan and His instruction on how we can survive these events. If we live according to His direction, we will be sealed by His seal of ownership, that offers us salvation from the events soon to come upon us. God will once again pass over us with the protection of the atoning blood placed on our foreheads (as if doorposts of our houses). The difference is the historical passover protected all God's people within the household, who remained behind the doorposts covered with the blood of a sacrificed lamb. Today however, the blood of the lamb is Yeshua's blood that covers us INDIVIDUALLY. In other words - you cannot save someone else because you are saved and protected by Yeshua. Each individual person must claim their own salvation from Yeshua.

Then we come onto the books of the Prophets - all of which are out of 'date' order historically but sequentially IN ORDER prophetically. Each book is so placed that prophesies within them follow on from Ezra, Nehemiah, Ester, Job etc. The prophesy books are in an order whereby the prophesies they contain, follow on sequentially, and lead up to the end times. These books contain factual historical events that also give a dual aspect of prophesies that have occurred, may soon occur or are presently occuring-and God has placed them this way on purpose so that we can read His message to us through them!

God, as the Almighty and wonderous God that he is - without limits! Has given us dual information by placing the books in the Bible in a particular way. The ignorant and anti- God individuals, try to use the un-chronological placing of these books as reason to disbelief the Bible's authenticity- they cannot fathom the methods used by God to reach His people-it is beyond their unlearned educated minds! (People may learn much but know very little!)

We only need to skim the surface of the prophetic writings to have an understanding of God's message to us (yet the educated, the intelligent philosophers and the david hawkins of the world- have to dig deep to gain any understanding at all and then their understand is corrupted by their concrete brains and hard heartedness) .

Now are you- people of God -ready to skim?

Lets Skim away!

If we just extract parts of the books relevant to prophesy we see a revelation that links to the Book of revelation and to events that have taken place, are taking place now or in the near future - to take place, There are many references to 'End Times'.

Let us start with the best of them all Isaiah! He refers to many end time events or the 'last days'. He also mentions a lot about Yeshua's second coming as conquerer, victor, and savior! He speaks of these things 760 B.C. Before the event of the first coming and prophesies of the second coming of the Messiah Yeshua. Isaiah also writes about Jerusalem as the City of Righteousness and The Faithful City or Zion (Chapt 1:26) Obviously, this has not occurred yet and is to come! There is also a piece referring to the Mountain of the Lord (Zion) in Chapt 2.

Isaiah warns of a false Messiah to come and Babylon his city of unrighteousness. (Links to Book of Revelation) and the battle of Gog and Magog (very soon to occur) and finally the last battle of Armageddon. It also refers in his writings to the Gt Tribulation (chapt 13) (and in Matthew 21 and Revelation). Throughout his book Isaiah speaks of judgement on the nations of the world (all of this is to come); the final devastation of the world and the deliverance of israel. Isaiah is a detailed compilation of all the end time prophesies-everything you need is in this book- the other prophet's writings are additional to this. You could read just this book and have a great understanding of what is to come. Isaiah finishes his book on the prophesy of the coming of the new Heaven and earth, when all the rebellious will be dead and the holy ones will bow down to their one and only true God!

Jeremiah comes next and he writes about the people of the world being tested - whether they are rebels acting corruptly and against God or whether they are holy and doing what is right according to God's Will.

In other words God is sifting the wheat from the chaff!

He is sifting the righteous from the unrighteous, the holy from the profane, the good from the evil and he is marking them accordingly! The mark of God's ownership will go to those who are written in the Book of Life! And the mark of distruction will be placed on the chaff by those who have chosen to worship other God's - the antichrist, the beast- satan!

The marks are for either salvation or destruction! Isaiah 6:27

The test is also a test of religious leaders - whether false or true leaders, speaking God's truth or preaching lies! God looks at people's hearts whether sincere or evil! Isaiah 7: 24

NOTE: There is more of God's judgement on those who were called to righteousness, experienced God's goodness, saw his miracles, heard His voice, yet after all of this, turned their backs on HIm and rebelled against him- choosing wickedness of the world instead!

There is less judgement for those who do not know God personally or have never experienced Him in their lives. I refer not to those who are unable to understand because of a mental disability, I refer to those who deliberately choose to ignore God's gifts, warnings and signs and wonders to deliberately turn away from Him -to accept worldly ways and humanistic living! Thes people will be punished and judged but their punishment will be less severe than those who have experienced God's goodness yet turned their backs on Him.

Jeremiah refers to false prophets and the persecution of true prophets (called by God to speak on His behalf-to give warnings and/or messages). Jeremiah was severly persecuted because he said things people did not want to hear. This shows that even God's chosen servants are not exempt from persecution. This will be so during the end times. God will send two witnessess into Israel to prophesy the final destructional events of the tribulation and to warn people to repent and to turn to God before it is too late - it will be their last chance!

They can only be saved by accepting the gift of eternal life through His son Yeshua!

The two witnesses are killed (probably by their own people as this has been the case historically) and in three days (as a witness to Yeshua's resurrection) they will be resurrected and taken up to heaven by God!

The next book in the prophetic writings is Lamentations. When you start to read this book there is a kind of stillness about it, it is like the calm before the storm! After the above events- God's prophets are not longer available! The two witnesses were the last time God will warn the people! They are now on their own- there will be no one to offer them sound truth or counsel. All that will be left is the false prophets - false teachers! People are now left to their own devices. (I do not refer to those who have repented from hearing the two witnesses testimony and Gospel message or to those who repented during the rapture period as these may have to go through persecution and death and others may not - but they will now know the truth and will indeed see their Lord on His return. They will also be amongst those during the 1,000 years transition period when Yeshua sits on the throne in the Temple of Jerusalem! These people of God will be able to minister to each other and support each during the Tribulation period, however, the doomed, those who have chosen not to accept Yeshua as their savior are left to their own devices - they will increase in their sin and wickedness. They will be led by false shepherds.

The Tribulation period has now arrived Jeremiah Chap 2:14 to end of chapter "The visions of your prophets were false and worthless. They did not expose your sin to ward off your captivity (slaves to sin). The Oracles they gave you were false and misleading..."

Jeremiah 3:25 "The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him. To the one who seeks Him. It is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.

Ezekiel goes from rapture to Judgement. He warns God's people NOT to rebel against Him. Chapt 3:16-22.

Verse 18, " When I say to a wicked man, 'You will surely die,' and you do not warn him or speak out to dissuade him from his evil ways in order to save his life, that wicked man will die for his sin, and I will hold you accountable for his blood. But if you do warn the wicked man and he does not turn from his wickedness or from his evil ways, he will die for his sin; but you will have saved yourself. Verse 20, Again, when a righteous man turns from his righteousness and does evil, and I put a stumbling block before him, he will die. Since you did not warn him, he will die for his sin. The righteous things he did will not be remembered, and I will hold you accountable for his blood. But if you do warn the righteous man not to sin and he does not sin, he will surely live because he took warning, and you will have saved yourself.

Jeremiah Chapt 7 The end has come and God will judge you according to your conduct and repay you for all your detestable practices. The wicked is to be punished (see also the Book of Revelation.)

Chapt 8, Speaks of idolatry in the Temple, this refers to past events but also prophesies the future event (pending) It also refers to the spiritual temple (the people of God as well as a temple building). The temple that is soon to be built by the Jews will be desecrated by the antichrist who takes up his position as the spiritual leader and places his image in the temple to be worshipped by all who have not been taken up by the Lord in the rapture. Ezekiel 8:5 refers the idol of Jealousy- satan has been jealous of Yeshua and knows Yeshua is coming back to sit on the throne in the Temple of Jerusalem hence the reason satan takes claim to it before Yeshua's return. satan also places an image of himself in the temple. God calls this the idol of jealousy.

Many in the house of Judah -those who thought they were 'born again' believers, but discovered at the rapture that they had been left behind! These people will bow down to satan because they have been left to their own devices and believe God has deserted them. They had been given many warnings but ignored them! Now they sufer the consequences of their pride! They had chose to reject the truth! so they now have been left behind!

Ezekiel has paralleled historical events which will repeat during these end times. Yeshua himself speaks in chapter 11:63 "Then, when I make atonement for you for all you have done, you will remember and be ashamed." Declares the Soveriegn Lord.

Chapt 18 The soul who sins will die...

From Chapter 38 it speaks of Gog and Magog battle - the enemy nations will be destroyed and a new Temple will be built (come down from heaven) for Yeshua to sit on the throne. The gates of Jerusalem will be named after the twelve tribes and the twelve apostles will names other 12 foundations. This has yet to happen- it is not historical. REV 21:12 (notice the reversed number 21 (the twelve tribes and the number 12 = the twelve apostles. Numbering chapters is no coinscidence but all part of God's structure plan.)

The book ends with the land being divided amongst the peoples. And the name of the City will be " THE LORD IS THERE!"

The Book of Daniel provides further information of the end times in Chapt 12 and at the end it says " Blessed is the one who waits for and reaches the end of the 1,335 days (three and a half years - part of the 7 year tribulation) As for you, go your way til the end. You will rest, and then at the end of the days you will rise to receive your allotted inheritance. This is a very important message to us in these last days - if you manage to survive part of the tribulation (3 1/2 yrs) you will see the coming of the Messiah as conqueror. If however, you do not survive but die before this event you will rest until the very end but you will not be forgotten, you will then rise from the dead to receive your allotted inheritance. Either way a child of God, a follower of Yeshua cannot lose!

Hosea speaks to Israel (God's people) He tells them to recognise their ancesterol history of sin and rebellion against God. They must repent from this rebellion which has seeped into their culture and become the normal behaviour for many. If they repent God can then bless and heal them! God loves them.

Hosea Chapt 14:9 "Who is wise? He will realise these things . Who is discerning? He will understand them, the ways of the Lord are right. The righteous walk in them but the rebellious stumble in them."

Joel warns of the pending plagues in the tribulation! It warns people of God to "Rend your hearts" Fast, weep and mourn! Return to God! For he is gracious and compassionate... "Final verse in book says, "The Lord dwells in Zion." The Lord will in the near future dwell with us!

Book of Amos is a warning to Israel's enemies, that God will send fire on Gaza and every Palastinian will be dead, also Tyre, Ashdod, Ashkelon and Ammon!

Israel will be judged also as stated in Amos chapt 2;11" I also raised up prophets from among your sons and Nazarites from your young men: is this not true, people of Israel? But you made the nazarites drink wine and commanded the prophets not to prophesy. "

Obadiah A vision. " The Day of The Lord is near for all nations. As you have done, it will be done to you... Mount Zion will be delivered and allotted inheritance given to Jacob, Joseph, Benjamin ... AND THE KINGDOM WILL BE THE LORD'S.

Jonah flees from the Lord- he is an example to us of someone who is afraid and angry -afraid of what might happen to him if he obeys God and serve Him. He is angry because God has told him to go to Ninevah so the people may be saved from destruction. It is a lesson to us that we cannot make judgements about who should or should not be saved just do what God says- if he says speak to someone you do it unconditionally! Ninevah heard God's message and many repented and turned to God for deliverance and salvation. It is our duty to forewarn people regardless of their level of sin, warn them of the pending disasters and plagues coming upon this world.

Micah - In the last days the mountain of the Lord's Temple will be established as chief among the mountains...It refers to the period of the 1,000 years millenium when Yeshua reigns throughout the world.

Nahum speaks of God as a jealous and avenging God he says to his people and the land of Israel, "No more will the wicked INVADE YOU!

Habakkuk is an interesting book it consists of questions and answers and should be read to enjoy the contents. And his prayer at the end is a delight.

Zephaniah speaks about the proud who are destroyed and the meek will survive! God turns everything around- no longer does the wicked survive and the meek suffer- it is reversed!

Haggai - speaks about the defiling of a righteous person " If a person carries consecrated meat in the fold of his garment, and that fold touches some bread or stew, some wine, oil or other food, does it become consecrated? " The priest answers "no". .. If a person defiled by contact with a dead body touches one of these does it become defiled? "yes" says the priest. ... " so it is with this people and this nation ... " This is such an important concept relevant to us today! If something or someone holy touches or becomes involved with something unholy it becomes defiled and loses it's holiness. Hence the reason God says to us ' separate yourselves from the world!"

Now Zechariah is a book full hope and advice to God's people- it is a summary of events - a guide to God's plan for his people to return to him. It speaks of the prophesy to come - the City without Walls! The city will be so safe and secure that there will be no need for walls. It is in this book we read that nations will turn to Yeshua! God says " I will live among you ..

In chap 9 The Lord Yeshua will appear, sounding his trumpet (see also Revelation) ... The people will then know and Mourn for the one they pierced. (Zech 12:10) There is plenty to read in the book of Zechariah and too much to mention in this hub. I would recommend you read it through on your own.

Malachi speaks of the judgement that comes after Yeshua has returned to earth and at the commencment of the 1,000 yrs peace. The chaff will be set on fire and burned to stubble. And then there will be peace like never known before!!!

So you have travelled the books and skimmed the message from God. Take heed of what you have learnt to day, read it for yourselves and remember its contents - for this is your personal survival kit! It is to assist you in understanding God's plan for us and for our enemies- He has it all in Hand! Baruch Hashem!

Nehemiah wasn't talking to the children of Israel...he was talking to the tribe of Judah...the Jews.

Israel has never been only Jews. This is a common misunderstanding by scholars and laymen alike--9 of the 12 tribes were taking into captivity by the Assyrians and lost. The tribes of Judah, Levi and Benjamin remained in the southern kingdom of Israel ultimately calling themselves Israelites.

Many forget this historical fact. The "Hebrews," Children of Israel, ancestors of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob are all a part of the nation of Israel--but not all Israelites are Jews--this the tribe of Judah took on itself over the course of the last 5000 years--or at least--this is what I've studied and come to understand from reading historical documentation of Ancient and modern-day Israel.

It's a fascinating topic.

Ah, I'm glad Randslam pointed these things out...

M.A. Noble, thanks for this long but very interesting read.. I never knew about the specific chronological order of those books.

M.A.Noble: Thank you for properly aligning the various books of the Bible in a chronological fashion. It is hard enough to follow the teachings of God through his word and learn his ways. It is even more difficult to learn when things are out of context chronoligically speaking.

Fact is though, regardless the order the Bible is written in it is the Book of Almighty God, His truth, presented to mankind who recorded it for God through the inspiration of His Holy Spirit. God's Holy Word is fact and truth.
