~ Psalm 25 ~ Spiritual Journey From The Beginning To The End Of The Psalm ~

Updated on November 25, 2013

~ Psalm 25 ~ Spiritual Journey From The Beginning TO The End Of The Psalm ~

The Psalm is a wonderful exhilarating compendium of marvelous spiritually profound prayers, hymns, songs and poems! They wonderfully inclusively express a spectacular gregarious plethora of human emotions! There is an exuberant excitement that permeates the atmosphere as the Psalmist David bursts through in melodic Praise! He joyfully and adamantly expresses his most confident audacious love, admiration, respect, trust and appreciation for the Lord’s presence in his life!

There is a Psalm for just about every occasion within this collection of one hundred & fifty (150) poetic messages in song. Did you know that almost half of the Psalms speak about enemies? In at least seventy-two (72) of the Psalms there are references to enemies! Persecution and spiritual warfare becomes part and parcel of life when one declares he or she believes in the Lord! When we say enemy within the context of the WORD we mean one that opposes not only us but God’s Way of living! David is concerned because he realizes if they can undermine the significant value of his relationship with the Lord they will further attempt to devalue the spiritual benefits of living for the Lord in the eyes of others! He knows that this will only serve to be an obstacle to others seeking to draw closer to the Lord!

We today as believers can identify with David in this 21st century! There is an overwhelming amount of spiritual warfare about us to undermine the authority of the Truth of God’s Word! Within and without His church! We are pulled and tugged in all kinds of directions. There is a constant pulley to entice one to clinch the latest trends of society, rather than embrace godly principles for life and living! Did you know that there is absolutely nowhere that we can go that God is not there since He is also Omnipresent! Therefore we must be ever mindful to invite His presence into whatever is going on about us wherever we are!

One must continually ask for discernment! One must seek to first understand God and His Word rather than to be understood! The Word of the Lord is timeless and infallible! As believers it is our How to “Life Manual!” It contains godly wisdom to draw us closer to the Lord and direct us along the Narrow Path that leads to Him! His Word contains a wealth of knowledge to help us live life to its fullest!

David often calls out to the Lord and asks for His direction in this Psalm. Notice he asks the Lord to “Remember…” Yet he knows that God is Omniscient and knows everything at all times about everything and everyone past present and future! From this we all can learn something! David was a man of wealth, power and fortune but he did not hesitate to humble himself to the Lord! This is utterly amazing! We never get to the point or can reach any amount of prominence or prestige where God is not worthy of us to humble ourselves before Him! Whenever David strayed from the straight and narrow and wandered on his own he readily repented and sought the Lord for direction. We too can receive direction from the Lord. But first we must also spend time drawing closer to Him and meditating upon His Word so we can “Be Still and Know!” Meaning take the time to sense, feel and be able to recognize His presence!

David prolifically and vociferously asks for protection from his enemies! They are vigilant in their efforts to derail him and undermine his Faith and Trust in the Lord! However we must always keep in mind that satan is our greatest enemy and he will use whoever is willing, unaware or weak to draw us away from the Lord and His principles! As David we too must vigilantly and watchfully seek the Lord daily for guidance and direction!

FYI! For your information! The 34th and 25th Psalm are actually an analogous pair in the sense that they are structured in the same manner! They both have twenty-two (22) verses just like the Hebrew alphabet! They are designed to Teach, Show and Lead! The major theme is The Importance of Divine Guidance!

In this Psalm we can find much peace and comfort! The LORD truly is able and is worthy of our continued PRAISE!

Book of Praise Lesson Highlights

BOOK 1

“A Psalm of David” A Prayer of David

Theme: A prayer for defense, guidance, and pardon. As we trust in God. He grants these same requests for us.

Author: David

David loves the Lord and is not ashamed to let it be known that His trust is in the Lord! He humbly submits and regularly petitions the Lord for help! David knows that when we truly submit ourselves to the Lord in any given situation we can emerge victoriously! He declares His trust and confidence in the LORD realizing that nothing or no one can triumph over the LORD! GOD is Omnipotent and has ALL POWER!

Praise & Worship are a significant part of David’s daily life as a king! This tells us just how truly important Praise is! We too must make Praising the Lord a part of our daily lifestyles! God wants to be incorporated into every area of our lives but not as a religious ritual! We are to worship the LORD “In SPIRIT and in Truth!” Throughout the day if you tend to wander when besieged by the cares of the world you must invite the Lord into the messiness of life and seek out His Will & His Way! Whatever you “Practice makes permanent!” The more we embrace worship it then becomes a part of who we are! “To You O Lord, I lift up my soul; in You, I trust O my God. Do not let me be put to shame, nor let my enemies triumph over me. No one whose hope is in You will ever be put to shame, but they will be put to shame who are treacherous without excuse.”

Here we can see that David invited the Lord into his life and sought His guidance! He realized that without the Lord he was nothing! The Lord and His Word is an endless source of spiritual wisdom! His Word is alive! However we must not only read it but actually embrace the principles therein by actually implementing them into our own lives! God calls us to obedience! Yet He allows us the freedom to choose. There are relentless appeals for us for us to do things the world’s way! We are bombarded constantly with advertising, things and people who attempt to pull us away from our center! Herein is the challenge! Yielding to temptation is a constant threat! It is important to know that “GOD never tempts us!” When we are being pulled we must however learn to humble ourselves and ask the Lord for guidance and direction! This is why we all need JESUS CHRIST as SAVIOR & LORD! Upon the profession of our FAITH we receive HIS HOLY SPIRIT! He is a constant internal Guide that is with us! In HIM we can forever have HOPE! “Show me Your ways, O Lord, teach me Your paths. Guide me in Your TRUTH and teach me, for You are God my Savior and my HOPE is in You all day long.”

We are pulled in many directions by both Christian and non Christian organizations! We must take time “To be STILL & KNOW” when something is or is NOT of the LORD! God does not require that we do everything nor do we have to be at the beckoning call of everyone! God knows our limitations as well as our strengths! We must continuously pray for spiritual discernment! We must continuously learn to respond in a way that pleases the Lord! I encourage you to make a covenant with the Lord to embrace His principles! As we do the FRUIT of His Spirit ripens and flourishes more and more within our lives! “Good and upright is the Lord; therefore He instructs sinners in His ways. He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them His way. All the ways of the Lord are loving and faithful for those who keep the demands of His covenant.”

There is no relationship that compares to that of being close to the LORD! As we grow closer to the Lord our spiritual eyes begin to open more and more! As we spiritually grow He opens our understanding and we begin to better understand His Ways and His Word! Our personal and intimate relationship with the Lord grows and we trust Him more and more! The spiritual benefits of drawing closer to the Lord is immeasurable! We are not as easily swayed and look far less to others for approval! Our first priority becomes to please the LORD! We know that our security and significance safely resides in Him! No one can pluck us out of the hands of the Lord unless you allow them to... The Lord confides in those who fear Him; He makes His covenant known to them. My eyes are forever on the Lord, for only He will release my feet from the snare.”

In the introduction to this 25th Psalm we talked about enemies! It is important to always keep in mind that we live amidst a spiritual battle! With increased spiritual growth as we apply the principles of God to our own lives comes wisdom! This is necessary because the enemies tactics increases as well, he will use whomever is willing, weak or deceived! The biggest deception is to think you are fighting for the LORD but in TRUTH you are actually fighting against his principles. No need to be afraid but remain conscious of the many ways that are designed to pull you away from the Lord! Our reputation is always safe with the Lord when we give Him first place! But it is also important to know that we then become a threat to satan and his imps… He wants to snare and or entrap us, because he wants to devalue and undermine our testimony and the spiritual value of living to please the Lord! No need to be afraid but to remain conscious of the many ways that are designed to pull you away from the Lord! Our reputation is always safe with the Lord when we give Him first place! But it is also important to know that we then become a threat to satan and his imps… He wants to snare and or entrap us, because he wants to devalue and undermine our testimony and the spiritual value of living to please the Lord!" ~

There are times when life hurls us much opposition! The turmoil can be relentless! This is why we must always make spending time with the Lord a priority daily! When things are going great still stay prayed up! Spending time with the Lord is one of the most important things that we can do! His Word is our required Spiritual Food! We need it to grow spiritually! Knowing His Word and drawing closer to Him can give you Peace even in the middle of a storm, temporary difficult situation or unexpected crisis! Even during the worst tumultuous storms of life God can turn it around every time for our GOOD! It really is all about Jesus and knowing that He came to overcame sin in the flesh for us so we could have a better life! Just like He redeemed Israel, He can and will redeem us! “TO GOD BE THE GLORY!”

Integrity and righteousness are our life preservers! David vehemently and tenderly cries out to the Lord! His sorrows were deep and his pain genuine! The Lord is a Deliverer! We can like David emerge victoriously! Sincerely cry out to the Lord! Call upon Him with all your heart! He can and will, “Deliver us from all evil…” Confess, repent and move closer to the Lord! As we submit to the Lord; The Blood of JESUS cleanses us from all unrighteousness! We in turn must seek His Will & His Way above all else! No one can ever make the Lord doubt who we are in Him! He knows our level of commitment to Him! I KNOW my REDEEMER lives! KNOW that there is always HOPE when you have FAITH in the LORD! PRAISE the LORD!

The Word of God has unlimited examples to reassure us that No matter what comes up against us or how many enemies! We can always find rest and refuge under the Shadow of the Almighty! Above Him is no other; GOD is The Most High GOD! "The LORD is my SHEPHERD!" We can ALWAYS TRUST GOD! “See how my enemies have increased and how fiercely they hate me! Guard my life and rescue me; let me not be put to shame, for I take refuge in You!”

This Psalm concludes saying: “May integrity and uprightness protect me, because my HOPE is in You. Redeem Israel, O GOD, from all their troubles.”
