50 Kindness Quotes from the Old and New Testaments

There is some act of kindness which everyone can do. Because we are not always aware of the people in our presence who are aching for a show of kindness, it is wise to show kindness to everyone we can, in any way we can.

I like the following two verses, because they speak about mankind's primary need:

"Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?" (Romans 2:4)

"The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance." (2 Peter 3:9)

MsDora, a beautifully researched reminder that we need to be kind to all we meet, friend and foe alike. In a day when there is so much hurt and hate going around, I think this was the best reminder we could get! Thanks.

These are beautiful quotes, Dora. Kindness is a virtue we were born to share and practice. In my opinion it takes quite a bit of effort to be unkind. If people would just let themselves do and be what comes naturally, the world would be a better place.

Sometimes I find myself praying for something. And that is good. However it always seems that it is better to act in kindness for it heals my wounds and those of another. I take this fine compilation as an act of kindness from you as it makes finding good thoughts easier for me. Thank you

glynch1 profile image

brave warrior,

In my opinion, too many folks are just "letting themselves do and be what comes naturally" without passing their thoughts and actions through a biblical, moral grid. In fact, most people do not even have a biblical, moral framework they can use to judge their thoughts and deeds.

Biblically speaking, people are not naturally good; on the contrary, they have a bent toward doing what is unrighteous. That is why we need so many reminders and instructions to be kind. Before we can perform truly kind deeds, we must first respond to God's kindness and turn away from our natural tendencies that lead us to do what does not please God.

I particularly like your first verse under "service," Proverbs 25: 21. If we ever really let that verse shape our attitudes toward our enemies, this would become a much different world.

You must have spent so much time and effort in crafting this article. Kindness is one of St. Paul's Fruits of the Spirit he wrote about to the Galatians and so a characteristic that we should try to obtain in our lives. God bless you for bringing this important fruit to our attention.

Oh, MsDora, this is a wonderful hub here and a great reminder of God's teaching to all to be kind. I think it is so important in our daily interactions to be kind. I thought I had already read this one, but it must have been another quotes from the Bible hub of yours, which I love.

Yes, kindness is one of the fruit of the Spirit as Blossom as stated too.

I have a lovely small tapestry hanging on my wall in the small hallway leading out to the garage door and I glance at it before I leave the house each morning, and it has reminded me that we shall be known by our fruit!

Up ++++ and away

God bless you for sharing as always

MsDora profile image

MsDora 19 months ago from The Caribbean Author

Faith, thanks to you, also to Blossom. At first I included Galatians 5:22 about kindness being the fruit of the Spirit, then I changed it for a less popular verse since I believe most people already know that one. It is important for us to know that kindness comes a result of God's spirit producing it in our spirit. Thanks again for mentioning it.

Perfect importune step closer to 'perfection', MsDora. If only people would dare kindness, if we who know the will of the Father would dare to, we would be right there, where Jesus wants us to be, "that is why you must be perfect as your Father in heaven is perfect."(Matt.5:48, GW Transl.)

May the blessedness of God be upon you always.

Dora, there are many good words of advice here. Many I would say are natural sentiments of humanity throughout the world and common to decent people regardless of the faith - if any - that they follow. They are the basic human characteristics of empathy and emotional understanding and compassion which bind all humane societies together.

Some quotes however show genuine insight into human failings which are still sadly all too prevalent today, and these pieces of advice need to be understood - not merely in the literal meaning of the words, but also in their deeper implications. Many people, for example, who may regard themselves as decent and kind, nonetheless have their kindness coloured or restricted by some failing such as prejudice and discrimination against anyone whio is different from themselves. In this regard, I particularly like: Courtesy (9), Favor (4), Hospitality (10) and Service (9).
