A Special Calling Just for You

Updated on August 14, 2012

Let us each do our jobs

Source

Just as each part of the body has its function in order to operate correctly so too does each member of Christs family.

One day a man was walking down the street feeling really down in the dumps. He had no job, no home, no food and his clothes were rags. He met a rich man who invited him to an apartment. When the homeless man saw the apartment it was modest but comfortable. The rich man invited him to go look in the refrigerator. It was full of good food. The rich man then invited the homeless man to look in the closet. There were nice new clothes. The rich man informed the homeless man that he would always have a nice place to live, food in the fridge and good clothes to wear. HOWEVER, the rich man continued, I have a special job just for you to do. You must be faithful and do the work that has been assigned you. The rich man then left. The homeless man sat on the couch, ate bon bons and watched soap operas instead of doing the work the rich man had assigned him. A week later the rich man returned and found the apartment a mess and the homeless man didn’t do the work the rich man assigned him. When the rich man asked him why, the homeless man replied that he didn’t feel he wanted to do that job and the rich man owed him because he was rich, while the other man was poor. Furious at the ingratitude that was shown him the rich man picked the homeless man up and threw him out of the apartment when he was roasted in the baking sun during the day and froze in the numbing cold at night.

So too it is with God. He has a special job for each one of us. He will always meet our every need while we are in service to Him.

We in turn must obey Him and perform the tasks He has assigned us to do.

If we refuse, by what right do we have to expect any blessing from Him?

“Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more. So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more. But the man who had received one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money. “After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. The man who had received five bags of gold brought the other five. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five bags of gold. See, I have gained five more.’ “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’ “The man with two bags of gold also came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with two bags of gold; see, I have gained two more.’ “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’ “Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’ “His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest. “‘So take the bag of gold from him and give it to the one who has ten bags. For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ Matthew 25:14-30 New International Version

And where will you get the tools to perform your service to Christ?

“I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13 New American Standard Bible)

WHEN Christ gives you a calling, He will also give you the tools to see it through to a successful completion.

It need not be something huge like giving up your job, family and home to go serve abroad. It could be something like being a big brother or sister to a child, maybe visiting seniors. It could be online buddies with a non Christian.

And how will you know what your calling is or where you will get the tools to do His work?

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6 New International Version

Read your Bible, talk with councilors, listen to sermons. That is where God will speak to you.

Have a submissive heart; do not be too proud to do the task He has assigned you.

He will guide you to the career path or life path that is best suited for both you and Him.

There is enough time in every day to do God's work... in God's way. Dr. Ted W. Engstrom

Prayer: (if you don’t have a calling) Father please show me where best to serve You and give my life a purpose. If you have your calling: Thank you gracious Father for blessing me with an opportunity to humbly be a servant to the greatest king, Jesus Christ. I ask in His cherished name. Amen.

May the sunshine of Jesus’ sweet love bless you today and every day.
