"Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly: Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children, and those that suck the breasts: let the bridegroom go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet. Let the priests, the ministers of the LORD, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, Spare thy people, O LORD, and give not thine heritage to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them: wherefore should they say among the people, Where is their God?" (Joel 2:15-17)

It was a beautiful Autumn Sunday in Pennsylvania. I sat listening to the Sunday school teacher in the adult Sunday school class as he taught on prayer. It was in that quiet moment that God spoke to me about the need to dedicate myself to calling America back to her God, back to the foundations she left long ago. By December 28, 2010 The Great American Fast website was launched, and now we are preparing for The Great American Fast III.

Each year the first weekend in September is set aside for The Great American Fast. Beginning at 6:00 p.m. Friday evening and ending at 6:00 p.m. Saturday evening, folks from all across America and eight foreign countries will join together wherever they are to seek God in a time of prayer and fasting, pleading for His presence once again.

Although individuals will be seeking God in their own way in their own place, the main observance will be held at the Lamar Lighthouse Camp in Lamar, PA. During that 24-hour period we will seek the face of God on our knees, perhaps on our faces, with tears and fasting. It truly will be an American event. Special music will be provided by Dan and Alescha Richmond (Massachusettes). Joe Knouf (Ohio), Dave Iseminger (Michigan), and Rick Vincent (New Jersey) will be the speakers. Much personal and corporate prayer time will be sprinkled throughout the 24-hour period.

Please consider joining us for the weekend if you possibly can. All expenses are paid for by Lifegate Baptist Church. If you can get here, we'll take care of the rest. There are several private rooms and cabins just waiting for you; all free so take me up on it. If you can't make the trip, please sign up to stand with us wherever you are at www.thegreatamericanfast.org.I realize no doubt that it will take more than one day of prayer and fasting to turn our nation around. The website was created to encourage us to be seeking the face of God on a daily basis throughout the year. God is moving so come be a part!

This year has been proclaimed as the Year of the Fast. Our members have entered into a perpetual fast that will culminate with The Great American Fast in September. The members have volunteered to pray and fast on a continuous schedule until we beak fast at 6:00 p.m. September 7. Each shift is 24 hours and as one is breaking fast, another is beginning. We're seeing great results as God is moving.

We're told in Joel 2:15 to "Blow the trumpet . . . sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly." Then we will "Gather the people, sanctify the congregation." There will be time for ". . .the priests, the ministers of the LORD, [to] weep between the porch and the altar . . . and say, Spare thy people, O LORD, and give not thine heritage to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them: wherefore should they say among the people, Where is their God?"

In verse 18 and 19, we're told of God's response - " Then will the LORD be jealous for his land, and pity his people. Yea, the LORD will answer and say unto his people, Behold, I will send you corn, and wine, and oil, and ye shall be satisfied therewith: and I will no more make you a reproach among the heathen." Then - then the Lord responded. That's the nature of God. May we trust Him for a complete and thorough work in our lives, families, churches, and yes, even our America.
