Animal Spirit Guides Meanings: Beaver, Badger, and Skunk

Surprising Animal Spirit Guides

Some of the most powerful and attuned animal spirit guides are those who dwell within the earth and those who dig in the earth. Some of these earth dwellers are even agile swimmers, as well as hard workers. If one of these three animals comes to you in a dream or vision or even in reality, you might be inclined to reject the notion that they are your animal spirit guide or totem. But do not reject it, for these animals have their own stories to tell and lessons to give to you. And these animals will also be lifelong guides and friends.

They are the beaver, badger, and skunk spirit guides and here are the basics.

The Beaver Spirit Guide

Some people hear the word "beaver" and automatically laugh, as they associate it with a female's parts. However, jokes and snickers aside, if the beaver comes to you in a dream or in a vision, you are a special person indeed. I have had the beaver show up in one of my dreams, and this dream turned out to be a very spiritual and profound dream. In this dream, the beaver itself walked right up to me and bit me on the hand as I went to pet it. This was a notion that told me I needed to look into what this beaver was trying to tell me right away. He was trying to get my attention with the bite.

The beaver spirit guide or totem will come to you and will be a steadfast friend for life. He represents and will teach you to work hard and maintain a positive outlook on life, despite your unstable surroundings. Sort of like how the beaver will dam up a wild river, he will teach you how to control your emotions and calm your senses. He is a great companion to those who go on vision quests and to those who journey into the other worlds. If you are a lucid dreamer, ask your beaver spirit guide to protect and guide you during astral travel. They may be small, but they are fierce in their own right.

The beaver spirit guide will also teach you how to be creative, if indeed you are needing some inspiration and that spark back in your life. If you aren't prepared to work hard and be happy doing it, then you might as well abandon the idea of having an animal spirit guide as the beaver represents these aspects to the fullest.

Badger Spirit Guide

The badger was considered a very important animal to the Oglala Sioux and was thought to be a very strong and tenacious creature. He was associated with the bear in a way that he knew herbs well because of his ability to dig up roots and herbs from the earth. Because of this ability, the badger spirit guide can be seen as a guide to those who are supposed to be healers. Badgers were especially healers for sick children. If you or your child have a badger spirit guide, perhaps you should call on him to help you find a cure or remedy for the illness.

The badger spirit guide is mainly nocturnal, and he also can be solitary but is also known to live in large groups. If you have a badger spirit guide, you should feel very safe as the badger is known to never back down from an attack and defend his family at all costs. He is never fearful of a fight if it means protecting his family.

Skunk Spirit Guide

Ewww, the skunk as a spirit guide? Are you kidding me? No, I assure you I am not. If a skunk comes to you in a dream or in a vision, he is most likely one of your animal spirit guides and you should not ignore him...for he will get your attention and perhaps not by the most eloquent of ways. The skunk spirit guide is also an earth dweller and has the "no-fright/no-flight" strength down pat, just as the badger spirit guide does. But the skunk spirit guide has an added bonus in addition to his bravery and tenacity...his secret weapon.

The skunk spirit guide is a protector, and he is also an animal that knows herbs and cures well. If you tend to struggle with low self esteem, the skunk spirit guide is the animal for you. He knows the feelings of being rejected very well but has surpassed those negative feelings and insecurities. The skunk spirit guide will also teach you how to keep your enemies at bay when the time calls for it...and keep them away!

The skunk spirit guide has highly heightened instincts and will put up his guard when intuition tells him there is trouble coming. If we listened to our instincts just as the skunk spirit does, we might be able to protect ourselves from certain dangerous and/or harmful situations.

I would love an animal spirit guide, I think it would be a horse or a bird of prey because these are my two favorites, then again I love dolphins. Fascinating look at the beaver and skunk guides, have a great Christmas kitty! nell

I had a dream the other day with an animal in it that had a strong presence. If only I could remember what it was...lol! I will pay closer attention next time. Thanks for sharing this valuable information!

I really liked this hub. At different times I have been around all three. They are all really cool. This was a neat explanation of the why.

Rich - See, I never see the skunk on the side of the road...but I think it's because we don't have as many here in FL. I've been reading Animals of the Soul lately and felt inspired to do this hub on animals that are sometimes overlooked as wonderful spirit guides. Blessings!

Kitty -

Another really interesting hub. Have never had any experiences with any of these guides, but have always admired badgers as they take on all foes fearlessly. I would tend to wonder about the intelligence of the skunk, as they are commonly found as road kill. Can't ever remember seeing the beaver or badger as such. Great job!
