Another Hope for a Future Generation
In my last hub I examined the life of Lynn, a pregnant ,seventeen year old girl who turned into a very lovely woman despite the hardships she dealt with early on in her life. She became a wonderful trophy of God's grace. In this hub I would like to examine the life of Rich, a man given over to pornography.
For several years Rich had been plagued by the use of pornography and in 1997 Rich was arrested for indecent assault--a result of living out his pornographic fantasies.Years later I was able to ask Rich, who by now had become a 40 year old man, to tell me his story.
It seemed that Rich's troubles began when he was a teenage boy. He had gotten involved with a young lady at his high school and it wasn't long until things were getting too heavy. Soon the young woman left Rich for another boy. Rich really cared for her and began to equate having sex with love. After his girlfriend left he needed to continue to have that assurance of love through sexual fantasies.
He had been given a pornographic magazine by someone at the school and sexual fantasy became his everyday release. Each time he was being drawn into sin more and more. When in his fantasy world, he could feel love again. Unfortunately, the love wasn't real, just a cheap imitation thrown out by satan. The fantasies escalated.
Over a period of time Rich became involved with many different pornographic practices that I won't mention here. Each one was gradually getting more involved and intense. To reach the same high bigger risks were taken. Each time Rich was able to get away, giving him a false feeling of power and entitlement. This drove him deeper into his sin.
Finally, in 1997 he was arrested for an attack on a woman outside her home. This was the turning point for Rich. Many thought that he was just reacting to being caught when he tried to show repentance for his actions. Time would tell what was really on Rich's heart.
God stood up for Rich. it is exactly those kinds of sin that Jesus died for. True repentance brings with it a change in lifestyle--a life of serving Christ. I am happy to say that today Rich is a changed man. He went off to Bible College and is now serving God in his local church.
This is just one more reminder that God can use anyone, and that God doesn't give up. He will accomplish His purpose. Don't you give up. Keep following Christ. And if you know any Rich's out there, encourage them to follow Christ as well.
