Approaching Worship Sunday

Approaching Worship Sunday

“Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord ? Or who may stand in his holy place ? He who has clean hands and a pure heart. Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive blessing from the Lord.”

Psalm 24 : 3 – 5

How do we prepare for a worship Sunday ?Are we careful and thoughtful enough in preparing for the Lord’s day of worship ?

There are some preachers who preach that we should be at our best in the Lord’s day. According to them, we should wear our best dress as we are preparing to meet a king.We should never wear rugged clothes on Sunday worship because this is taking the worship day as a trivial matter.

Being thoughtful about our attire on Sunday worship is just alright but this should not be our primary concern. Our primary concern should be the condition of our righteousness before God and the purity of our lives. We should be thoughtful about how we lived our lives for the past week before the Sunday worship.

Do we have clean hands ? Do we possess righteous lives ? Have we not used our hands for stealing , for hurting people, for touching unclean things, for committing lewdness or immorality, for cheating our employers, the government and other people , for writing malicious insights, for writing dirty stories, for destroying the reputation of our colleagues ?

Do we have pure hearts ? have we not harbor bitterness or entertain covetousness ? Have we ceased from entertaining lustful thoughts or from harboring hatred ? Have we stopped entertaining rebellion particularly against God ? There are such many careless acts a person may commit in order to displease God.

The best preparation for a worship Sunday is a righteous life and a pure heart . Even though we may have just simple attire onSundays, as long as we walk in righteousness and purity we are very much prepared to worship God on Sunday.

Before entering the church in a worship Sunday be sure that you have reconciled with your enemies. Be sure that you have forgiven all wrongdoings against you. It is very disappointing to observe that many people are careless about how they approach worship.

Worship Sunday at the sanctuary of the church represents the Lord’s holy hill or holy place. It is a symbol of God’s holy presence. One must approach it with utter carefulness and thoughtfulness . We take worship Sunday as a trivial matter if we remain attending with our sinful thoughts and deeds even though we are at our best attire.

Our attitude towards worship Sunday reflects our attitude towards God. If we take God lightly, we will consider attending worship service as a trivial matter. It implies we have stopped revering God and we must examine our spiritual walk closely.

Always be reminded that God gave the very best gifts to us, he just deserved the best worship which is demonstrated best through our righteous and holy living.
