Archangel Gabriel And Magical Associations
Though it is difficult to believe it is very true that Pagans do believe in Angels and even ask for their help. Due to the fact that I am a Christo-Pagan I really feel connected to the Angels instead of calling upon the four elements or guardians, I call upon the four great Archangels. Michael, Uriel, Gabriel and Raphael.
Angels are messengers. Like stones, candles, herbs, and many other parts of Paganism and the Wiccan path Angels too have associations. This is the beginning of a series that will share with you the associations that the angels have, beginning with the one we all know as Gabriel.
Though this doesn't really have anything of importance when it comes to magic it is interesting to know his many names that he goes by. If you do not feel comfortable calling him by Gabriel you may rather call him by his many other names.
He is also known as Abruel, Gabrielus which is Latin. In Hebrew he is called Gavri'el and in Arabic he is known as Jibril or Jibrail. However his celestial title is The Power Of God. Another Hebrew name that he went by is Levannah. He also had an Egyptian name which is Hathor.
Day, Hour And Month
It's said that there are certain times, including days, months and hours that the Angels have more power, that they rule. Gabriel's day is Monday. Therefore if you are involving him within a spell of any kind it would be best done on a Monday. His month is January and his hours of the day that he rules include the first hour and 8th hours of the day. Of the night he rules the 3rd and 10th.
The Rest Of The Magical Associations
Gabriel is the angel of the West and therefore is the angel of the element of Water. He is also considered to be the angel of the Moon and is because of this that his Tarot Card is The High Priestess.
The colors that suit Gabriel the best are white and silver. However Black and Blue have been used from time to time. And even Brown and Green. Brown and Green mainly have been used because of their connection with the Zodiac sign Cancer which is said to be associated with Gabriel.
Animals are connected to him. Spiders, Moths, Dogs, Crabs, Shellfish, Seagull, Owls, and White Peacock are the ones mostly associated with him.
Trees are also associated with our dear archangel Gabriel and they include Almond, Bay, Palm, Coconut, Hazel, Papaya, and the Weeping Willow.
When incorporating Gabriel into a ritual and you'd like to and offerings on your alter there are a few fruit that are associated with him as well. Pear, Lichee, and Melon are said to be the best to use.
Flowers and herbs are also things you can incorporate into your ritual involving Gabriel. Any white flowers that you may see, Adder's Tongue, Iris, Chickweed, Morning Glory, Passion Flower, Peonies, Poppy, Purslane, White Rose, Watercress, and Wallflower.
If you are going to be working with writing blue ink and white paper are the best with Gabriel.
Because of Gabriel being of connected to the Moon he is said to be associated with the Roman/Greek Goddesses Selene and Diana because they are connected to the moon as well. I take it that in a way he may be as well connected to the Goddess Sophia because she too is connected to the moon. And is of Knowledge like Selene and Diana.
Gabriel can be incorporated in many different Rituals but as mentioned before his best day is on a Monday, especially when working with rituals about women. He can be used in intentions of the family, domestic rituals for example marriages, home and hearth, garden, travel and even medicine. If you involve him in rituals that are of psychic development he can help boost the energies, he will also do the same in those for prophetic dreams. He is the angel of women's mysteries, tides, waters, emotional issues, animals, female fertility, messages, theft, reconciliation, voyages, and dreams. So if your ritual has anything to do with any of those matters Gabriel can in fact be incorporated into your ritual.
As you have read there is so much information on Gabriel. I probably only have just half of it in this hub. I'm sure you can also tell that he is one that I am highly interested in and also one that I connect to a great deal, as I have hinted from time to time. Hopefully you may be able to understand my interest. Maybe even start involving him in your rituals from time to time as well. And if you are not Pagan, at least you may have found this hub to have been of some interest to you.
