Astrology: What is it?

Updated on March 12, 2012

Tools of the Trade

You have some bodacious tools at your disposal when it comes to Astrology.

  • Horoscopes
  • Past Life Charts
  • Natal/Birth Charts
  • Compatibility Charts
  • Agricultural Forecasts
  • Ascendant Calculators

Astrology is a form of divination used to predict potential outcomes and experiences that might be felt by a specific person or a generalized group of people. Many have likened astrology to a "spiritual weather report", which is often why an astrological prediction is known as a forecast. Truthfully, astrology doesn't truly predict the future - more accurately, it either describes the reason why you have mostly likely become who you are today, and/or the most likely flow that your energy will be traveling in towards the future.

Types of Astrology

What's that? There's more then one type of astrology? You betcha! Here's a few from the top of my head:

  • Vedic
  • Celtic
  • Horary
  • Mayan
  • Eastern
  • Western
  • Electional
  • Summerian
  • And More!

If it's not a prediction - what's the point?

In all my years of astrological study and use, I have found that astrology is best used in yearly, monthly and daily forecasts to avoid negative scenario's, encourage positive scenario's and to explain why certain scenario's played out the way they did.

For more thorough spiritual pursuits, you can't overlook having your birth chart graphed. Heck, even just to better you're understanding of yourself and the interpretation of your horoscopes, is a fantastic reason to receive your birth chart.

In combination, birth charts and detailed forecasts can help you reach your peak potential, then ease you into that restful peace you need to recuperate. These tools can help you plan for your:

  • Family
  • Health
  • Career
  • Business
  • Finances
  • Education
  • Romantic Life
  • Spiritual Pursuits
  • And More!

How do they do it?

Most astrologer's either use a physical or digital circular chart or graph that depicts the 12 (or sometimes 13) planets and their attributed astrological signs. Over that, an astrologer will take your time of birth and form a natal chart, that allows them to gather information about your personality, characteristics, strengths and weaknesses, which allows them to give a detailed forecast of the best course of action for success in your life.

Depending on the type of astrology being used to create the forecast, an astrologer can use detailed information from ancient studies of the ways that planetary bodies influence our lives. There is no concrete explanation for why astrology is as accurate as it usually is, though even empirical science cannot deny the benefits that astrology can lend to those seeking insight into their lives.
