Attitude Is Everything
Your attitude will determine your altitude
It was Zig Ziglar who made the timeless statement "Your attitude will determine your altitude", a statement which inevitably stamped attitude as everything in life. In my opinion, A man who struggles with his attitude will ultimately struggle to get to his altitude. A man who though eloquent in speech, able to cunningly maneuver his ways through life in any given situations but has the wrong attitude will not only struggle to gain access to the confidence and trust of fellow human being but will also battle to attain greater heights in life. Every other achievements and endeavor up until the time of attitude reckoning would only be a tussle and hustle of life, the destination then becomes a long haul when it should have been a smooth ride.
When it comes to reaching your destination, getting your altitude in life, reaching your maximum height and potential in life, attitude becomes everything. You need to engage in a different kind of ball game, not the sort where you step down on everybody and expect to stay afloat the storms of life, you need to play the cards right, obey the rules of the game, step on to the ladder for greatness through the right attitude. It is attitude that expresses your personality, It displays your character and how you are wired. It yields good results when represented in the right way and brings into existence disfavor, sometimes disastrous outcome when wrongly displayed.
Attitude is the instant and constant reaction to something or somebody. It can be negative or positive and can be misconstrued if not portrayed in the right manner. Fame, money, power, intellect, all kinds of worldly desires is not the greatest achievement in life, Your attitude, the right kind of attitude to anything or anyone around you is the greatest achievement anybody can achieve on earth. It can set you up or set you apart from others, It can lift you up or let you down. One of the greatest history recorded and recounted in life, that validates attitude as the determinant of your altitude in life is that of the young man Caleb in the bible. Caleb and his mates were sent to spy their land of inheritance, as promised by God. They were meant to return to their leaders with reports of their findings and while others were crippled with fear because of their findings, Caleb was brave and courageous enough to encourage everybody else in moving forward. This simple act was honored by God simply because he chose to behave differently, he had the right attitude acceptable to God.
“but because my servant Caleb has a different spirit (attitude) and follows me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land he went to, and his descendants will inherit it” Numbers 14:24
As a child, we all learnt how to behave and talk from our parents, we imitated our parents and the environment we grew up in. This reflection of our parents attitude begins to instill certain reflex actions in us capturing and transferring reactions that inevitably becomes our attitude to anything or anyone in life. Many people are fallen prey of the wrong kind of attitude because of their surroundings, environment they live in, work place or peer pressure. A typical example of the wrong kind of attitude is the kind that youths displays in today's society; totally rebellious and unruly, an attitude that could scar, break and stop them from navigating through life in the best way.
The wrong disapproving attitude however, remains sexual immorality/adultery/fornication, impurity/uncleanness, debauchery/lewdness, idolatry, witchcraft/sorcery, hatred, discord/contentions, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions/heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, orgies/revelries, bitterness, rage, anger, brawling, slander, all forms of malice, unwholesome talk and grieving the Holy Spirit, and the right attitude towards anything in life or towards anybody in life according to the bible are: kindness, compassion to one another, forgive each other, speak truthfully to your neighbor, those who have been stealing must stop stealing and start to work, in your anger do not sin, do not let the sun go down while you are still angry and do not give the devil a foothold, live a life of love, peace, joy, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control.
To be made new in the attitude of your minds and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness Ephesians 4: 23 – 24
The portrait of the right attitude is not only the tool for individual greatness but for the world’s greatness, I believe President Barack Obama won majority’s vote because of his down to earth character not because he is eloquent or knows the solution to United States problems or because he is well knowledgeable in politics but because he had the right kind of attitude that appealed to both man and God. In 1800’s, many people believed that only Winston Churchill could lead United Kingdom to freedom from the hands of Hitler because of so many reasons but it was his attitude of compassion, love for his country, kindness and his bravery that made him the greatest leader of all time in United Kingdom.
Many of us know the right kind of attitude but turns blind eye to portraying them in front of the new generation for so many reasons such as greed, selfish ambitions and the like as listed above and we complain about the economy, the surroundings, our neighbours, our jobs, employers, employees; we moan about a lot of things because unknowingly to us while we snort our nose to the right kind of attitude or we remain a fly on the wall, we are creating a new era of stagnation, an era of recklessness, and so we get stuck in a system that neither moves forward nor backward, we have had to acquiesce with what life, our environment, friends, families, colleagues, neighbours throw at us. We can all get out of this rottenness by putting on the right kind of attitude; there is no one who goes for a job interview with the right attitude that an employer will not single out or a leader with the right attitude that does not get the faithfulness of his follower and a good parent with the right attitude is a jewel of the nation.
It is easier said than done and bad old habits die hard but the bible tells us to strive to seek peace with all men; I believe it is not just striving to be at peace but also strive to behave aright. Has anybody ever been in a situation where they constantly surprise themselves with their attitude? Either the right kind of attitude by which we feel at peace and happy that we have achieved something or the wrong kind of attitude after which we become mortified we wonder if anything was wrong with us? I have been in both situations before and I prefer the right kind of attitude. I know it is hard to portray the right kind of attitude but one step at a time of having a go at something brings us closer to perfection of the end result. So, as we embark on a new journey this week, let our attitude shine through, let our attitude make way for us where men has said there is no way, let us strive to have control over self that wants to gratify itself, let the right attitude bring us before prince, kings and connects us with destiny.
Prayer: Father Lord forgive me where I have portrayed the wrong attitude when I should have relied on your grace to see me through, forgive my sinful nature for I was born a sinner and have inherited all the wrong attitude, make me clean Lord, transform me where I need transformation and renew a right attitude within me I pray in Jesus mighty name. Amen
Have a fulfilled week!
