Be Careful for Nothing

Be Careful for Nothing

Philippians 4:6

“Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication let your request be made known unto God.”

Careful or anxiety comes from the Greek word merimnao and to be without a care is the Greek word “amerimnos”, which is a compound word; “a” means without and merimonos meaning, to be careful, anxious.

While I looked at the word “amerimnos” I notice the likeness to America so of course this drew my interest and I began to explore to see what connection could be drawn.

First thing I notice was that America was named after an Italian cartographer and explorer named Amerigo Vespucci (1454-1512).

Tracing the etymology of the word “amerigo” led me to an interesting discovery. Firstly his name means “ruler of the home”.

His name in Greek is Americus which means royalty.

Now we know that people of royalty are people without care.

I quickly imagined the Queen of England and how it would be sinful for her to be anxious about her car note, what will be prepared for meal or what robe she shall wear, or could she afford the simple financial responsibilities on any given day because she is royalty and it would be downright sinful for her to concern herself with such trivial matters.

God will cause a person to be given a name, such as “Amerigo”, so that one day that name will be interpreted to stir up a nation, a people and an economy. And so God is reminding the Christians who are resident of this country that all is not lost but that if we by faith begin to live a life without care then God would provide for us divinely, for as we move in faith, royalty will attune itself to our lives, to make a blessed harmony.

The bible says in 1Peter2:9 that, “we are chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that we should show forth the praises of him who has called us out of darkness into his marvelous light”.

And this is not a recent decision of God but in Exodus 19:5-6 says,  Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:
6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

God is looking for His royal priesthood to come to the plate and not to buckle at the knees like a bunch of punks but ones that glorify God and show the world how to live by faith. But there has been a spirit of ridicule in the land and it is running rampage among the people who call themselves believers. The enemy uses this spirit of ridicule to mock the saints, poke fun at, to laugh and tease their brothers because they neither understand nor care to understand that the purposes of God for each of them is not the same just as the gifts of the Holy Spirit are not the same. Continuing to Philippians 4:7, “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and mind through Christ Jesus.”

Note that Paul didn’t say that after you let your request be made known unto him that he would come like a choir boy and supply all of your desires; but he said peace!

He said,And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and mind through Christ Jesus.” We are living in a time when the world is in chaos.

Because of this people have a tendency to be careful about the things of life rather than the things of God. Jesus in Matthew 24, spoke of days similar to these when chaos would be upon the land. He spoke of a time of confusion, disorder and pandemonium yet his true servants would trust in Him to bring them through.

 The disciples had asked him what are the signs of the end times and the Lord began to instruct them as they listened intently.

 The end-times would be preceded by the times of horrors (birth of pains {8}) in which time you would have;

a)      False Messiah; confusion, disorder,

b)      Wars; the Middle East at war, Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, Israel, Palestinian conflicts, N. Korea, Serbia. (4)

c)      Nations and kingdoms will rise against each other

d)      Famines, earthquakes, Tsunami, global warming; African continent, (6),

e)      Tortured, persecuted, killed, Apostasy; Roman emperor, Nero, Caligula (9)

f)       Many will loose their passion and become affected by the passions and desires (lust) of the flesh. (2Sam. 11, David & Bathsheba) (12). In Psalms 69:9, “The zeal (strong desire to promote the glory of God) of thine house hath eaten me up …”

The End-Times will come;

·         After the Gospel has been preached to all the kingdoms of the earth.

In the same chapter of Matthew 24:13, the Bible declares, 13 “But those enduring to the end shall be saved”.

  Matt 24:13 (Living)

The dictionary meaning of “endured” is to bear hardship: - exertion, pain, or hardship without giving up; tolerating disagreeable things, to survive over a period of time, especially when faced with difficulties.

The Greek word is hupomeno meaning to stay under, to undergo, to bear, have fortitude, and persevere. God wants his church to have fortitude, to undergo situations and conditions but keep on ticking. In this season God is not raising up a church to be fashioned like those in kings houses but he his raising up a John the Baptist type saint, a saint like Elijah that would prepare the people for the coming of the Lord.

Moses Endured

Hebrew 11:27,   “By faith he (Moses) forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.”

That was not the testimony of Moses at the beginning, for we have seen in Exodus 4 where God had to almost push Moses into his destiny. But God saw the end of Moses; He was looking at the finished product. God wants to move us from the familiar to the unfamiliar territory because that’s the way promotion.

 Increase doesn’t come without change!

At the first Moses was careful about Pharaoh, but then, God released Moses’ purpose to him, and destiny forced him to commit to change.

It’s a wrong concept that God uses the devil to chastise His children.

God will say, “Son, you are of age, here is your purpose (and it is always tied in to your anointing), it will take you to your destiny (-tion)”

29 For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

  Romans 11:29 (KJV)

16 A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.

  Prov 18:16 (KJV)

The problem is not with God, but with man, because it is man that;

a)      Does not know his purpose; by spending time with his  heavenly Father

b)      Unwilling to be a steward of our gifts; buries it

c)      Hooked up with the wrong crowd 12:8

d)      Faint in your mind, Heb. 12:3

e)      Do not think he has to endure

Contradiction of sinners

Hebrew 12:3, “For consider him (Jesus) that endured such contraction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds”.

a)      To look at Him attentively (consider Him), reflect, judge, weigh the possibilities before deciding.

b)      To confide in Him

He bore continual opposition of sinners against himself, but conquered by;

a)      Meekness; gentleness, humbleness

b)      Patience; capacity for waiting

c)      Perseverance; persistence, to hold out.

d)

  The writer is saying that if we depend upon Jesus then we will not get weary in our mind.

Isaiah 40:29-30, “He giveth power to the faint … but they that wait upon the Lord …”

Abraham Endured

 Hebrew 6:15, “And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise”.

  Abraham was like a farmer, who having cultivated a piece of land; wait in expectation for the harvesting of his crops.

Therefore the crop is the product of the seed just as Christians are a product of Abraham by his seed, which is Christ.

It is the evidence of Abraham’s work and faith or that you have farmed the land. Faith without works is dead.

We know what difficulties a farmer has to endure until the time of harvesting.

Time is spent in hiring labor, purchases made for farm equipment, fertilizer and possibly an irrigation system. But the farmers’ expectancy is very high as must have been Abraham’s because he saw his harvested seed.

But he had to endure and during the time of enduring; the time when God says, “be careful for nothing”, the farmer has to put his trust in God because all the time the enemy is trying to influence his behavior.

It is a grievous and a painful thing to walk around with no physical evidence, only a mental image of what God has promised.

How Abraham must have suffered contradiction of the people who did not regard but scoffed at God promise.

God may have given you a promise as He did Abraham that he would have something tangible, a son, on which he awaited for almost 25 years.

And if that was not giving the enemy enough to contradict him, God changed his name from “Exalted father” and called him “Father of many nations”. Can you imagine how much of an impact that might have had on his mind, for as he went from place to place, people would ask him, “what’s your name?

Ø      The Conversion of Abram to Abraham

 The name Abram, was derived from a contracted word; “ab” meaning father and “ruwm” pronounced “room” which Strong’s define as taken from a primitive root;

 “to be high actively, to rise or raise (in various applications, literally or figuratively ):-- bring up, exalt (self ), extol, give, go up, haughty, heave (up), (be, lift up on, make on, set up on, too) high(-er, one), hold up, levy, lift(-er) up, (be) lofty,  loud, mount up, offer (up), + presumptuously, (be) promote(-ion), proud, set up, tall(-er), take (away, off, up), breed worms.”

Ø      God had given Abraham a new name implying that;

  1. The name that he had; haughty, proud, and breed worms, etc., did not match with the description of God
  2. God wanted his name to identify with the divine estate he was called to establish, that is, “the just shall live by faith”.
  3. When God makes a covenant, ones name effectively changes to reflect the purpose of the covenant.
  4. Abraham received the promise by his faith and God sealed it with circumcision.

Ø      Sarai Tried to Figure God Out

God was waiting on Abraham and Sarah to stop trying to figure him out, and find the right location in their hearts which was peace, so that God would produce the evidence.

Ø      Notice that the child did not come until Abram gave Melchizedek tithe for peace.

Peace for his own life to deal with a barren woman and peace for the promised generation then the Lord said in chapter 15 of Genesis, “Take me an heifer three years old  ...”

But we see that Sarah was impatient; she could not take the wait any longer to have a child so she told Abraham to go in to her servant and return from her tent only after he had sown a seed that would bring forth evidence. But before we begin to cast stones at Sarah, how many of us would be willing to endure when there was another way out, called “Hagar”. “Hagar”, the finance company, “Hagar” the doctor, “Hagar” the Lawyer to file suit against your insurance company, and “Hagar” the porn videos and books you have hidden away in the basement for those times when you can’t have your way with your spouse. Hold those stones for you may need them.

Ø      Set your Care at the Feet of Jesus

Abram, consented, and thus we have Hagar being used to settle an issue of Sari’s barrenness, in which she did get the job done but suffered rejection in the aftermath because she tried to be involved in the promise.

She refused to set her care upon the Lord God.

Sarai missed it; she became careful for a child. She was more concerned about her state of being; she looks upon her barrenness rather than upon the words of the Almighty. The bible tells us to whom we should look;

Hebrew 12:2, “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

In Jesus Christ we have symbolically become Israel, our souls Jerusalem and our spirits Zion, the holy mount of God.
