Bible Verse for the Day
Memorizing Bible Verses
A student of the Bible knows that memorizing verses is very important. I have to confess that I'm pretty weak in that area because it was never stressed to me why I should do this. Memorizing
- helps verses come to mind when you really need them and you don't have a Bible to refer to.
- helps you determine when the words are misquoted.
- helps you participate in discussions and quote it correctly without spending the time hunting desperately for the right verse.
- helps you understand other scripture as you read along.
- helps you answer another person's questions instead of referring them to someone else.
Memorizing is a very useful tool and something I have striving for. Here are a few tips on how to memorize those verses (I'll add to this list as I learn more myself):
- Copy the verse you are memorizing onto index cards and place next to the bathroom mirror, next to your computer, in your Bible, and any other place you go to a lot.
- Repeat the verse 3 times in a row.
- Maybe strive for remembering only 1 or 2 verses a week.
- Get a partner. It is amazing how we can achieve goals when you have a partner.
- If you have trouble memorizing the whole verse and are nervous of quoting it wrong, memorize the message it is telling you and then the address. You can then quickly look it up and quote it correctly.
Each day I'll post a verse below for you to use to memorize for the day or week.
Another thing you can do is start a Verse Notebook. Write the verse in the notebook, write your initial thoughts on the verse, and then add to those comments are you go about your day and/or studies.
For today's verse, scroll down to the current month and locate the date. There should be a verse for every day of the year.
