Bible to Mormonism Comparison 1
To Answer Commentary by "EO"
This hub is written to answer a commenter on my hub What Mormons Didn’t Tell Me: EO: Respectfully, you have not given Biblical references when you challenge what is written about Mormon doctrine and how it compares to the Bible. I appreciate your reasoning countenance, as this is not meant to "bash", but rather expose what the Bible says and what Mormonism teaches. I will answer your questions (or claims) thus far here, using the Bible:
Jesus Conceived by Holy Spirit
Obviously in the video on my first hub, "What Mormons Didn't Tell Me" there are some Mormons who do not believe Jesus was conceived by the Holy Ghost. I'm glad you acknowledge that He was; Amen! For those reading who do not believe Jesus was conceived by the Holy Ghost:
Matthew 1:18 & 20: “Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as His mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.” ; “Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.”
Luke 1:35 states, “And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.”
Flesh and Bone in Heaven
Regarding Jesus having flesh and bone in heaven (or us, for that matter):
Mormons do believe Jesus was raised in the body in which he died. Amen. However, I don't know that they believe His body was raised incorruptible. As I stated in my main hub, the Bible says in 1 Corinthians 15:50 “Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.”
Living bone marrow produces blood. Dead bones have no life. Jesus was raised in three days, as Lazarus who was dead for four days. Because Lazarus continued to live on earth, he also had his blood restored. If you believe Jesus took His very body to heaven upon ascension, He obviously had no corruptible flesh and bone (or blood), or else it would contradict the very Bible we just quoted.
Bone is solid matter and cannot pass through walls. Jesus appeared to the disciples without coming through a door, as the doors were shut (John 20:19). He also took on other forms as shown in the scriptures (Mark 16:12). The Bible says we will be raised “incorruptible” as shown here in two passages:
1 Corinthians 15:51-52: “Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we [who are alive] shall be changed.” (KJV)
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17: “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” (KJV)
So, whatever bodily form we are given will not be the same as here on earth. This is confirmed scripturally because we came from the dust and to the dust we return. Ecclesiastes 3:20 states, “All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.” (KJV)
I’ve heard some Mormons say that God is not a spirit, but flesh and bone. John 4:24 states, “God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.” Now isn’t it interesting that Jesus says the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth in John 15:26 “But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, He shall testify of me.” (KJV) This is the same Holy Spirit that overshadowed Mary. Spirit is NOT flesh and bone, nor can it birth flesh and bone unless combined with a human of flesh and bone.
Born In Heaven
Regarding man (or even Jesus) being born in heaven, pre-existing birth on earth:
Genesis 2:7: "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." And again, Ecclesiastes 3:20 states, “All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.” (KJV)
I want to go into more on the subject of marriage and procreation in heaven. I realize you believe God had wives (goddesses) and that all of us were born in heaven and pre-existed before being born of our mother's womb. In the original Mormon doctrine, blacks were the cursed forms; did you know that? Anyhow, let's look at what the Bible says about heaven and marriage:
Mark 12:25: "For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven." Angels do not procreate with each other. They are created beings without the ability to increase in number. If we are going to be “as the angels”, we will not procreate either. The fallen angels “left their former estate” in order to sin against God’s creation and come into the daughters of men. This sin is well-documented in the Bible, as well as the punishment of these fallen angels (Genesis 6; 2 Peter 2:4; Jude 1:6).
Angel of Light
You said, "Angel of light means a resurrected being that has had the glory of God (See 1 Corinthians 15)". I would like you to show me where it says anything about an angel of light in this passage? ZERO. But, let me tell you a passage that specifically mentions "angel of light":
2 Cor 11:14 (KJV) "And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light."
2 Cor 11:14 (NAS) “No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.”
2 Cor 11:14 (NIV) “And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.”
I will quote again a very powerful verse found in Galatians 1:8 "But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed." So, don't you think an angel from heaven could appear to someone and give them a "restored gospel" that contradicts the very foundational truths of the Godhead? God knows, and so does Satan, that if you don't accept that Jesus Christ IS GOD and is NOT separate FROM GOD, nor is the Holy Spirit separate from GOD, you will have MISSED THE MARK of salvation by grace through God's shed blood on the cross for you. You are serving a false Messiah ~ the "angel of light" named Haylel (Lucifer), which means "morning star", just as the real Jesus states that He alone is the bright and "morning star" (Rev 22:16).
If you might think Christ is an angel, please read my hub Who Do You Say That I AM?. This will absolutely prove that He is not an angel, but rather He is God and created the angels who worship Him! Hebrews 1:6 "And again, when He bringeth in the first begotten into the world, He saith, And let all the angels of God worship Him." (KJV)
Mormons teach that humans will become gods and goddesses. I'm sure you're aware that the serpent used this very claim to deceive Eve in the Garden of Eden? Genesis 3:5 "For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil." Satan is called the "father of lies" in John 8:44.
God says in Isaiah 43:10 "Ye are My witnesses, saith the LORD, and My servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He: before Me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after Me."
Ears to Hear
Regarding those who have never heard about Jesus:
As far as all the people on earth who've never heard of God? Did you know the Bible says they are without excuse? Romans 1:20 states, "For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:"
Here's another passage where I believe if a person has never heard the Word of God before in their lives, they are considered innocent: John 15:22 "If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloak for their sin." (KJV) Once you’ve heard the truth, you are without excuse and have no covering for your sin unless you accept the “real Jesus”.
Who do we listen to?
While you state, "We do not have to rely on the voice, thoughts and interpretations of man", you also state, "I would that people receive the material, study it," I didn't see you state, "Read the Bible and ask God to show you".
People need to know that Joseph Smith, as well as many of the Mormon founders, were members of the Masons. The Masons are of the occult, not of God. There is a video here on this hub to expose this truth, as well.
Joseph Smith was 14 years old when he had the vision of what first was Jesus, then angels, then God and Jesus (the account changes even within his own writings). There were no witnesses to the event. However, there were at LEAST 12 witnesses of the real Jesus Christ in the New Testament, let alone all those who lived by faith before the promised Messiah had come. All their writings do not contradict each other. The Bible addresses this very thing in the following two passages:
Hebrews 11:39 “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses…”
2 Peter 1:20 “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.”
You said, "You do not teach the resurrection, nor baptism and several other plain and simple items of the Bible." I invite you to my other site, Judah's Daughter. Had you been with me here the last seven months, you would know that I've written hubs on most of the foundational beliefs of “Bible-Only” Christianity. The profile of Carrie Bradshaw is to write about "religions" that contradict the Bible truth.
My heart goes out to you, and I leave you with this scripture:
2 Corinthians 4:4 “In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.”
