Bible to Mormonism Comparison 1

Two different gospels.
Two different gospels.

To Answer Commentary by "EO"

This hub is written to answer a commenter on my hub What Mormons Didn’t Tell Me: EO: Respectfully, you have not given Biblical references when you challenge what is written about Mormon doctrine and how it compares to the Bible. I appreciate your reasoning countenance, as this is not meant to "bash", but rather expose what the Bible says and what Mormonism teaches. I will answer your questions (or claims) thus far here, using the Bible:

Jesus Conceived by Holy Spirit

Obviously in the video on my first hub, "What Mormons Didn't Tell Me" there are some Mormons who do not believe Jesus was conceived by the Holy Ghost. I'm glad you acknowledge that He was; Amen! For those reading who do not believe Jesus was conceived by the Holy Ghost:

Matthew 1:18 & 20: “Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as His mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.” ; “Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.”

Luke 1:35 states, “And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.”

Resurrected body of Jesus Christ

Flesh and Bone in Heaven

Regarding Jesus having flesh and bone in heaven (or us, for that matter):

Mormons do believe Jesus was raised in the body in which he died.  Amen.  However, I don't know that they believe His body was raised incorruptible.  As I stated in my main hub, the Bible says in 1 Corinthians 15:50 “Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.”

Living bone marrow produces blood. Dead bones have no life. Jesus was raised in three days, as Lazarus who was dead for four days. Because Lazarus continued to live on earth, he also had his blood restored. If you believe Jesus took His very body to heaven upon ascension, He obviously had no corruptible flesh and bone (or blood), or else it would contradict the very Bible we just quoted.

Bone is solid matter and cannot pass through walls. Jesus appeared to the disciples without coming through a door, as the doors were shut (John 20:19). He also took on other forms as shown in the scriptures (Mark 16:12). The Bible says we will be raised “incorruptible” as shown here in two passages:

1 Corinthians 15:51-52: “Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we [who are alive] shall be changed.” (KJV)

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17: “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” (KJV)

So, whatever bodily form we are given will not be the same as here on earth. This is confirmed scripturally because we came from the dust and to the dust we return. Ecclesiastes 3:20 states, “All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.” (KJV)

I’ve heard some Mormons say that God is not a spirit, but flesh and bone. John 4:24 states, “God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.” Now isn’t it interesting that Jesus says the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth in John 15:26 “But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, He shall testify of me.” (KJV) This is the same Holy Spirit that overshadowed Mary. Spirit is NOT flesh and bone, nor can it birth flesh and bone unless combined with a human of flesh and bone.

Born In Heaven

Regarding man (or even Jesus) being born in heaven, pre-existing birth on earth:

Genesis 2:7: "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." And again, Ecclesiastes 3:20 states, “All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.” (KJV)

I want to go into more on the subject of marriage and procreation in heaven. I realize you believe God had wives (goddesses) and that all of us were born in heaven and pre-existed before being born of our mother's womb. In the original Mormon doctrine, blacks were the cursed forms; did you know that? Anyhow, let's look at what the Bible says about heaven and marriage:

Mark 12:25: "For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven." Angels do not procreate with each other. They are created beings without the ability to increase in number. If we are going to be “as the angels”, we will not procreate either. The fallen angels “left their former estate” in order to sin against God’s creation and come into the daughters of men. This sin is well-documented in the Bible, as well as the punishment of these fallen angels (Genesis 6; 2 Peter 2:4; Jude 1:6).

Satan is transformed into an angel of light
Satan is transformed into an angel of light

Angel of Light

You said, "Angel of light means a resurrected being that has had the glory of God (See 1 Corinthians 15)". I would like you to show me where it says anything about an angel of light in this passage? ZERO. But, let me tell you a passage that specifically mentions "angel of light":

2 Cor 11:14 (KJV) "And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light."

2 Cor 11:14 (NAS) “No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.”

2 Cor 11:14 (NIV) “And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.”

I will quote again a very powerful verse found in Galatians 1:8 "But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed." So, don't you think an angel from heaven could appear to someone and give them a "restored gospel" that contradicts the very foundational truths of the Godhead? God knows, and so does Satan, that if you don't accept that Jesus Christ IS GOD and is NOT separate FROM GOD, nor is the Holy Spirit separate from GOD, you will have MISSED THE MARK of salvation by grace through God's shed blood on the cross for you. You are serving a false Messiah ~ the "angel of light" named Haylel (Lucifer), which means "morning star", just as the real Jesus states that He alone is the bright and "morning star" (Rev 22:16).

If you might think Christ is an angel, please read my hub Who Do You Say That I AM?. This will absolutely prove that He is not an angel, but rather He is God and created the angels who worship Him! Hebrews 1:6 "And again, when He bringeth in the first begotten into the world, He saith, And let all the angels of God worship Him." (KJV)

Mormons teach that humans will become gods and goddesses. I'm sure you're aware that the serpent used this very claim to deceive Eve in the Garden of Eden? Genesis 3:5 "For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil." Satan is called the "father of lies" in John 8:44.

God says in Isaiah 43:10 "Ye are My witnesses, saith the LORD, and My servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He: before Me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after Me."

Ears to Hear

Regarding those who have never heard about Jesus:

As far as all the people on earth who've never heard of God? Did you know the Bible says they are without excuse? Romans 1:20 states, "For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:"

Here's another passage where I believe if a person has never heard the Word of God before in their lives, they are considered innocent: John 15:22 "If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloak for their sin." (KJV) Once you’ve heard the truth, you are without excuse and have no covering for your sin unless you accept the “real Jesus”.

Who do we listen to?

While you state, "We do not have to rely on the voice, thoughts and interpretations of man", you also state, "I would that people receive the material, study it," I didn't see you state, "Read the Bible and ask God to show you".

People need to know that Joseph Smith, as well as many of the Mormon founders, were members of the Masons. The Masons are of the occult, not of God. There is a video here on this hub to expose this truth, as well.

Joseph Smith was 14 years old when he had the vision of what first was Jesus, then angels, then God and Jesus (the account changes even within his own writings). There were no witnesses to the event. However, there were at LEAST 12 witnesses of the real Jesus Christ in the New Testament, let alone all those who lived by faith before the promised Messiah had come. All their writings do not contradict each other. The Bible addresses this very thing in the following two passages:

Hebrews 11:39 “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses…”

2 Peter 1:20 “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.”

My Heart

You said, "You do not teach the resurrection, nor baptism and several other plain and simple items of the Bible." I invite you to my other site, Judah's Daughter. Had you been with me here the last seven months, you would know that I've written hubs on most of the foundational beliefs of “Bible-Only” Christianity. The profile of Carrie Bradshaw is to write about "religions" that contradict the Bible truth.

My heart goes out to you, and I leave you with this scripture:

2 Corinthians 4:4 “In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.”

Like I said before, I will not partake any more in Bible Bashing and religion bashing. This is not appropriate.

I have very logical and biblical reference for all of these things but I will not. You want to know go to or ask for a Book of Mormon, also ask the missionaries when you see them, but do not bash with them.

I apologize to all that may see this and have to put up with counter spiritual behavior on my part of participation in these bashing hubs. I ask that everyone read, study and find what the church actually teaches, and then pray to for God to tell let you know what is true. There are so many religions, all reading the Bible, all teaching different things, how can all be correct?

I repent for the bashings and now cease. I may still present hubs on believes and scripture references in the polite spiritual presentation, and not in this form.

My friend. That is just nuts for the mormans not to accept that Jesus was conceived divinely by the Holy Ghost. I did not know a whole lot about mormons and I'm glad I read your hub that i8nformed me much better. God has sent you to open their eyes cause they sure need to before it is too late!Another thing. Jesus Himself said we will not marry or be married in Heaven. We will be like the Angels. So if we do not marry then we sure won't procreate. Sounds to me that the one who started the morman religion didn't want to give up sex. It states in the last book of the Bible that those who add to or take away from the divine scriptures God will add and take away from them. Woe unto them! Also, I do love that roman road that states all are without excuse.I still wonder about mentally challenged people who cannot conceive stuff in their mind. They are children who have become adults still in their bodies. What about them? Are they without excuse too if they are retarded?

Jesus did warn that there would be false Christs. Many will listen to them too.

Sciantel, I've addressed the question about accountability in my hub, and also that of marriage (as you confirmed). For those who are handicapped, as well as those who've never heard the gospel, John 15:22 states, "If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin:" If they do not have sin in this case, they are going to be with the Lord, amen! :-) God bless you.

eovery, the Word of God, that of the Bible does not return void, and I believe with all my heart that His Word will pierce through the darkness and do its work in all who come here to read. I live by faith in Him and therefore, His Word; no one else's. I'm thankful you stopped by to receive the seed and I pray it roots deep and grows in your heart and soul. Amen.

I think that the information can be hard for some to hear. But the truth can be hard to hear. The tone is loving and I believe that you would change the tone should the Lord move you. Unfortunately of these opposing views, only one can be true. They both can't be right. Many people are thinking that they are objective when reasoning out a belief system, but objectivity takes both sides so one can properly use their reasoning. I see this expose' as clearly showing both sides with bold print to make it easy to see the differences. One shouldn't take the bold print as yelling or demeaning. The fact is folks believe this way and the Bible teaches that way. Which way will each person believe given these facts? Each one of these faiths, both Mormonism and Christianity believes that communication to those of other faiths is what God wants them to do. Mormon theology should hold up to Bible examination but is doesn't. Just because someone writes something contrary to what others believe doesn't mean that that writer does not love those very people. I have written two hubs about Jehovah's Witnesses because they are some of the people I love most. I did not write it to demean them or to elevate myself. I sincerely hope that those who read what I've written sees the love in them as I see the love in you, Carrie.

no body, you can't even imagine (or I think you actually can), but my heart is so heavy today that I've cried and yelled to the Lord in tears!! How or WHY can He let this happen to so many people? He gave us His Word and yet the horrible Adversary takes it and twists it to destroy God's very creation. I am so grieved beyond words. I'm just cyring my eyes out. I pray He brings peace to my heart. I understand His love more today than I ever did.

The mormons are a stiff necked people. They will not associate with any outsiders or consider even that someone else besides them can know God. They think they are it. The only chosen people of God.Woe unto the one who started this belief in them. It is so sad but I will now say a prayer for my dear friend Carry: God grant you peace. You are a warrior. I pray for the continuing strength in this. I know that mormons are a hard people to reach. God will bring whom He will bring to Himself. Jesus also said that all whom the Father draws to Him He will not lose. Not one. He is blessed forever and we in Him, amen!

Sciantel, Here are some quotes from the Mormon founders regarding orthodox Christianity (and there are so many more):

"I was answered that I must join none of them (Christian Churches), for they were all wrong...that all their creeds were an abomination in His sight" (Joseph Smith History 1:19).

"...orthodox Christian views of God are Pagan rather than Christian." (Mormon Doctrine of Deity by B.H. Roberts, p.116)

"...the God whom the 'Christians' worship is a being of their own creation..." (Apostle Charles W. Penrose, JD 23:243)

"The Christian world, so called, are heathens as to their knowledge of the salvation of God." (Brigham Young, JD 8:171)

Here is a link to their "foundational" beliefs in comparison to orthodox, Biblical beliefs:

Sciantel 7 years ago

Wow. The only thing I can say, is if a mormon or even a seven day advent wants to find the true Lord and God, not defined with just their beliefs they were raised on, family, ect, they need to go back, back to before the book of mormon even ever existed.Same with the seven day advents, to see that the original Bible was there, before theirs was created. That God existed before their so called god did. They need to then look over the differences and see, and I pray the Lord Himself open their eyes to see that they are being deceived and into a doctrine Jesus warned not to partake in, or they are just a lost people. I see what Satan is up to and it is diabolical!

Well, I just looked up some stuff on LDS and sure enough, they believe Jesus Christ is Michael the Archangel, just like Jehovah's Witnesses! They also predicted the return of Christ in 1844 and two more times, which never came true. They also believe our souls are not in heaven when we die, but sleep (I wonder if another hubber that teaches soul sleep is a SDA?) I always know when something's "off the mark". I guess I'll have to write a hub about SDA's next.

I heard about the Masons to. That it is an awful occult. My grandfather used to be a Mason, before he died that is. I was shown this book of Masons where way high up in the top rank of this deceitful lodge that they actually worship Satan denouncing the Trinity. Man I sure hope my grandfather died ignorant not knowing nothing about that..

"Behold my hands and my feet, that I myself; handle me, and see; for spirit has not flesh and bones, as you see me have." (Luke 24:39) Mans life is from the blood but Jesus' life is from the Spirit.

No I'm not a Mormon, I'm a Baptist that believe in what the word of god says and not what people say it says. It is right there in the text. Jesus says he has flesh and bones. This is proof of the resurrection of the body. How be it a new one not the corrupt body we are buried with. you Mormons out there should read this text over and over and over till you get it.

WOW Carrie you did it again! You keep coming up with great hubs. Im glad you did the research and took the lid off of, So that i could see the truth. twill4jc, I trust this hub doesn't sound "harsh", but there is no side-stepping the real Jesus and we are to defend the truth even to death. Because my motive is love, I believe this hub will be fruitful to the many, many people the Lord loves and knows their hearts. Typically, those who are deceived do not know it! They are innocent. I pray God will reveal His truth and lead them out of this "wide road that leads to destruction" right away!!

I am LDS. When you ask an individual a question, it will be subject to that persons knowledge, not necessarily the stand of the church. I use to ask my Catholic friends questions, and got all kinds of different answers. My advise would be to go to They have good information, and you can submit questions that will be answered in a confident manner.

I can research individual questions if you need. But just as you, I do not bash. My life is spent learning, not tearing down. My hubs are all about reading and trying to understand the Bible. I believe there is much in the Bible that if understood better, can help seekers see what it is that the Mormons believe. Almost all of the doctrine taught has biblical references. Some are obscure and hard to interpret. But that is what the Holy Ghost is for, to teach.

Carrie Bradshaw profile image

One thing I can say about Mormons, is they have such a loving manner in responses. I've addressed some controversial beliefs with those of other doctrines that have quite a hostile and hateful response. I just wanted to say, I appreciate all the responses of the LDS members here. While I believe the LDS foundational doctrines are not biblical, I pray God be with us all. Amen.

"They will put you out of the synagogues" [churches] "yea the time cometh that whosoever killeth you [Joseph Smith]? will think he doeth God a service."

-- Luke? 4:24

"And ye [Mormons]? shall be hated of all men for my name's sake..."

--Matt. 10:22

-- Luke? 4:24

"... I will send them [LDS] prophets and apostles,? and some of them they will slay [Joseph Smith] and persecute; that the blood of all the prophets which was shed from the foundation of the world may be required of this generation.

Onusonus, God's prophets and followers have forever been persecuted. God also destroys false prophets. There were many more prophets and followers of Christ than Joseph Smith and the LDS's, since they've only been around since the 1800's. I would assume that everyone who claims the name of Jesus Christ will be persecuted; that would include all denominations and followings (true and false). The difference is, there's only one true Jesus and those who follow Him will see eternal life. Those who do not follow the true Jesus will see eternal damnation. That's what the Bible says, and we are all held accountable for what Jesus and what gospel we choose to follow. Amen.

Onusonus profile image

Yes there is only one true Jesus, and we both follow him, and so did Joseph Smith. He was hated and persicuted, tared and feathered three times, driven out of several states, beaten and tormented. And contrary to the laws of justice, mobs assembled countless times with frivelous law suits and finally at their hands they murdered him. Shot in the back by cowards.

"Cursed are those who shall lift up the heal against mine anointed, saith the Lord, and cry they have sinned when they have not sinned, but done that which is meet in mine eyes."

He was a true Prophet and his blood will be required at their hands on the day of judgment.

Wow, Thomas ~ while I discern demonic forces in false teachers and followers that are highly deceived, I've not been a part of or witnessed an actual demon possession first-hand. When someone is influenced by a demonic spirit(s) it's usually evident in the fact they literally HATE to hear the Word of God in proper context. Truth is their enemy and because they are deceived they HATE truth! It makes them sick and spew hateful things. All we can do is share the truth in love and know that God's truth never returns void. God be with us all ~ His return is very soon!

And contrary to the laws of justice, mobs assembled countless times with frivelous law suits and finally at their hands they murdered him. Shot in the back by cowards."

Yes, Joseph Smith, Jr. was hated and despised and for good reason: He cheated people out of money; he had sex with 14 year old girls; he stole men's wives away from them; he was a sex addict; he was greedy; he started a fraudulent bank and stole money from people; he used secret seer stones and the art of divination to swindle people out of money and was thusly convicted in court of defrauding his neighbor.

The king and god of the Mormons (Joseph Smith, Jr.) also invaded Missouri on two occasions, killed some people and stole some things to help fund his church. His neighbors hated him and the Mormons because of their anti-social behavior and because this cult refused to abide by societal norms.

Moreover, at the time of his death in 1844, Joseph Smith, Jr. was being tried for high treason against the United States, amongst other minor charges.

It is ironic that Joseph Smith stated that Mormons were the only real Jews, Freemasons, and Christians, but it was the Freemasons that finally killed him. It seems that Joseph did not follow the dictates of the Freemasons any more than he followed the Bible, so he was dispatched by the brotherhood for his indiscretion.

Some say that Joseph and Hyrum, his brother, fired the first shots from the jail cell and then when they recognized some within the mob to be Freemasons, Joseph cried out the Masonic distress call, "Oh lord my god, is there no help for the widow's son?!"

His desperate pleas fell on def ears and he was shot in the back, because he fled like a coward. His only legal wife, Emily Hale, said he died a death fitting for him.

In his right pocket was found a small statue of "Jupiter", which his family referred to as his "his little Masonic jewel". This talisman was thought by Joseph, to make him irresistable to women and made people come under his spell.

Now, Freemasons generally ignore all crimes committed by the "bretheren", but Joseph was a renegade who did exactly as he pleased. Freemasonic sources of the time said that if Joseph had been allowed to live another two years, all Freemasons in Illinois would have become Mormons and all Mormons would have become Freemasons.

As if was, Smith was making Mormons into Freemasons at an alarming rate and many Freemasons were adapting his brand of Mormon/Freemasonry, which was a big "no no" - one worthy of death!

Look, Joseph Smith, Jr., by many accounts, was a psychopath of the highest magnitude. I think in all likelihood, he never had a day where he didn't try to con his way through it.

He even convinced his family that he found remnance of the original Hebrew Bible. As the story goes, Joseph had found some brilliant white sand during one of his day-hikes and decided to take some home with him. He placed the sand into a bag and carried it home with him and along the way conjured this ficticious story. He noted in one of his journals how easy it was to dupe, even his own family into believing whatever he said.

The Bible talks about the punishment coming to false prophets and often in the Old Testament the punishment for being a false prophet was being stoned to death.

Now, it is easy to tell a false prophet from a legitimate prophet based on the quality of their predictions. A false prophet makes misguided, mistaken, and fraudulent predictions. Obviously this individual is not listening to the Almighty, because the Almighty does not make mistakes, nor does He lead people astray.

There is no question outside of Mormon circles that Jospeh Smith, Jr., was a false prophet and con man. In fact, out of the 64 known prophecies that spewed forth from his lying lips, only about 6 of them could be construed as being fairly accurate. Taking the part into the whole, we come up with a hit percentage of 9%. This means this self-proclaimed oracle and prophet of god got it wrong 91% of the time.

Now, would you want to fly on a plane that had a 9% chance of landing safely? Would you take your wife to an obstetrician who lost 91% of the babies he tried to deliver? Of course you shouldn't and you wouldn't, so only a fool would entrust his soul and salvation to this charlatan.

And, so it goes.
