Black Saves Blue

Police Officer saved by Black Youth

There has been so much said in recent days regarding the relationship of young blacks in America who have died due to actions of police officers. Which has caused a great mistrust by Blacks in America towards those who are sworn to protect and serve. This article steps aside from that issue and brings to your attention that there is still much good to be found between the Black and the Blue.

Today I read a story of a young black man name Jamal Rutledge who is 17 years old. The story take place at the Fort Lauderdale Police Department. Jamal Rutledge had been brought into the police booking facility earlier after he had been arrested for a probation violation. Officer Franklin Foulks, age 49, was processing the young offender whose hands where handcuffed behind his back and sitting in a near by chair. A short time latter, during the booking process, Jamal Rutledge observed Officer Foulks collape to the floor. Then realizing that something was seriously wrong with the officer and with no another help in the room Jamal Rutledge begain kicking at the security screen and began yelling to get the attention of other officers who by chance were located in a near by room.

Officers Raymon Ketchmark and Officer Robert Norvis heard the loud commotion and responed. Once they entered the room and realize the situation they came to Officer Foulks aid. They immedately began CPR and used a defibrillator which clearly worked.

The entire event was caught on video camera.

Officer Foulks was transported to a local hospital and appearently was able to survive this event and according to his doctor is expected to return to full duty.

The Fort Lauderdale Police Department has credited Jamal Rutledge, along with the other two officers, with saving the life of Officer Franklin Foulks.

I am sure that Jamal Rutledge initially found himself in an unwanted situation by being arrested earlier that day, but setting aside his personal feelings he realized a fellow human being needed his help. For without it a man would die. I personally wish to thank Jamal Rutledge for his action's which played a very big role in saving a police officer's life. You are a true hero in my book.

This is a fine example of how one young man decided that a human life is far more important than our personal feelings or opinions that we may have. And deep down inside we are all the same and we all have value regardless of the color we find ourselves in.

Eric- Thanks for your comment. I think this story is a good example of a situation where we find the best in a person. One who is willing to save a fellow human being even though earlier he was in an unwanted situation. I believe Jamal Rutledge has set a good example of " love thy neighbor" and revealed the best in himself.

God bless

Life is a gift from God and there cannot be put a value on any human life as it is priceless. Any person who truly understands this would do the same as Jamal Rutledge.

PandN- Thanks for your visit and added comment. I agree, each one of our lives are priceless. It is sad that there are some who find it easy to devalue human life. In my own opinion the value of life is priceless. As you said " Life is a gift from God." And I believe there are more out there like Jamal Rutledge who understands it.

God bless.
