Our Peace And Our Hope
Colossians A Christ Centered Gospel
Colossians is a wonderful and exceptional Book of the New Testament that showcases Jesus Christ as the Head of His Church! It is magnificently written by the Apostle Paul. Paul did not personally visit the Church in Colosse it was founded by Epaphras. Paul planted the seeds in Ephesus and it spread to Colosse at this time, Paul was a prisoner under house arrest. Epaphras came to know the Lord under Paul’s powerful ministry. The Key verses in Colossians are: “For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him who is the Head of ALL principality and power.”
Colossians is known as one of the iniquitous (4) four Prison Epistles. Jesus dying on the cross provided a way back to God’s original intended relationship with man. If you ever want to find out more of the infinite wisdom and Supremacy of Christ look no further, it’s all in the Bible! Jesus Christ is without blemish, flawlessly complete and infinitely knowledgeable in all matter pertaining to life and godliness. All the treasures of wisdom are in Him; in Him the fullness of the Godhead dwells in bodily form! There is no other God besides Him! “I AM the LORD, and there is NO other; there is NO other GOD besides ME. I WILL gird you, though you have not known Me, That they may know from the rising of the sun to its setting that there is NONE besides Me. I AM the LORD, an there is NO other; I form the Light and ...” Isaiah 45.
Colossians has a wealth of insight and demonstrates Paul’s perseverance while imprisoned for his preaching the Gospel continues on! This wonderful Book discusses the significant importance of knowing the preeminence of Jesus Christ and the value of His plan of Salvation. Paul informs and encourages the readers to gain a deeper understanding and insight of who Jesus Christ is and His Supremacy! Jesus Christ is the only mediator between God and man! “I AM the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End, says the Lord, who IS and who WAS and who IS to come the Almighty” Revelation 1. He is the firstborn of ALL creation! Our Peace and our Hope!
Jesus Christ is the Captain of our Salvation; For it was fitting for Him, for whom are ALL things and by whom are ALL things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the Captain of Salvation perfect through sufferings. For He who sanctifies and those who are being sanctified are all of one…” Hebrew 2. As believers, we have received a wonderful inheritance through Jesus Christ. Our inheritance is secure in the heavenly realm of TRUTH and purity where God dwells! God’s plan of Salvation is a wonderful gift to us. Jesus Christ suffered greatly in the flesh for us because of His great Love for us! We are encouraged to live in a way that pleases God!
Colosse was located in the Roman province of Asia ( today it is located in modern Turkey) and was a city in Phrygia. Epaphras makes the journey to Rome to visit Paul with his genuine concerns. Epaphras shares his apprehensions with Paul since there has been an uprising of vehement heresy! Yielding false doctrine and man induced philosophy mixed with religion designed to entice both believers and non believers. Which the Book of Colossians refutes! While Epaphras remains consulting with Paul, he sends the powerful Colossian letter to the Church by Thychicus accompanied by Onesimus. (Please see my earlier article on Philemon) Listen closely to what Paul says: “Therefore as God’s chosen people. Holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the LORD forgave you. And over all these virtues put on LOVE, which binds them all together in PERFECT unity. Let the PEACE of CHRIST rule in your hearts, since as members of ONE body you were called to PEACE. And be thankful. Let the WORD of Christ Jesus dwell in you richly as you Teach and Admonish one another with ALL Wisdom, and as you Sing Psalms, Hymns and Spiritual Songs with gratitude in your hearts to GOD. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, Do it in the name of the LORD JESUS. Giving thanks to GOD the Father through Him…”
Paul’s letter prolifically describes as well in amazing detail the Awesome undisputable Attributes of Jesus Christ! “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over ALL creation. For by Him all things were created that are visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before All things. And in Him all things consist, And He is the HEAD of the body, the Church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in ALL things He may have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that in Him ALL the fullness should dwell and by Him to reconcile ALL things to Himself, by Him whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made Peace through the Blood of His Cross ” Colossians 1. This is a powerful passage of Scripture and when digested slowly one can attain the True knowledge of just how magnificent Jesus Christ is! It also confirms what was stated earlier in Hebrews! He is the first to be resurrected to never die again of all that will be raised from the dead. Jesus Christ is Supreme!
Paul stresses the deity of Jesus Christ in Colossians! It is important to know the Word of God so you will not be easily led astray by the false teachings of anyone or legalism. Our final destination of heaven is sure in Jesus Christ as believers! This is not without consequence! Today as well, once you really begin to grasp the enormity of this to be so you can expect “spiritual warfare" to arise in and around your life! We receive eternal life through Jesus Christ connected through Faith only through Him, can we access the power for living! Paul’s life was dedicated to proclaiming the GOOD NEWS of Jesus Christ! We need to constantly consult with the Lord for direction! Devoting ourselves to prayer. “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ…” Daily we need to pray and ask for the infilling, indwelling presence of His Holy Spirit to assist us in navigating through this maze of life. Keep in mind that Jesus was grossly mistreated! Many landmines, man induced manipulations and detours have been orchestrated to derail us from the path that only leads to God! This is what was also going on when Paul wrote Colossians, this spirit filled inspired letter with wonderful timeless Truths!
As a minister of God the Apostle Paul with great intensity fervently proclaims the authorship and spiritual benefits of our Christian legacy in Colossians! Colossians has (4) four wonderful chapters! In them he writes because he no longer wants the mysteries of the Church to be hidden and shares that God wants this to be revealed to His saints. “To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the GLORY of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is CHRIST IN YOU, THE HOPE OF GLORY. HIM we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in ALL wisdom, that we may present every man PERFECT in Christ JESUS” How often do you hear someone say “Nobody’s Perfect?” Through Jesus Christ we are perfect! This is not meant to infer the right- a-away to presumed arrogance. The perfection the Bible speaks to us about does not mean flawlessness but COMPLETE! You can be completely confident in who you are in Christ! The mystery revealed is Christ in you! The indwelling presence of His Holy Spirit is our precious gift! Give someone the gift of knowing Jesus through you! Jesus is the reason for every Season! He is the Ultimate! There is no better gift!
