The Exile and Oppression of being in the Modern "Church" System

There are many who are in the modern “church” who are under the oppression and captivity of spiritual Babylon. Spiritual Babylon is a spiritual state that is the result of organized religion that takes place in the buildings of man called “church.” Under the gloss of the traditions of man are an opressed people who are battered, tired, mentally and emotionally drained who are imprisoned by wolves in sheep’s clothing.

Scripture reveals some insight into the spiritual reality of Babylon through the physical events that took place in the Old Testament when Judah was taken captive and imprisoned by their Babylonian enemies as a result of breaking the covenant that they had made with God (Exodus 19:8).

And all the army of the Chaldeans, who were with the captain of the guard, broke down the walls around Jerusalem. And the rest of the people who were left in the city and the deserters who had deserted to the king of Babylon, together with the rest of the multitude, Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried into exile. – 2 Kings 25:10-11

When we choose to disobey God and His leading without repentance, our hearts will harden as we enter into spiritual captivity. Judah is a physical example of a people that God allowed Satan to take captive for their disobedience. A hard heart was a result of refusing to come under the authority of God, which created a hostile attitude towards His standards. Even though God’s people became captive to Satan’s kingdom, God used it as a display of His power as they overcame Babylon in their repentance.

Satan is the king of spiritual Babylon who brings confusion and double-mindedness as he wages continual war against God’s ekklesia. Many who fall for his deceptions have allowed him to take control over the inner courts of their sanctuary.

Protective Hedge

Paul speaks of members of the "church" who are held captive in the law of sin.

But I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. – Romans 7:23

When we become a new creation through Jesus Christ, we are no longer a slave to sin because we have the protective wall of the Holy Spirit that surrounds us. We are spiritually protected from Satan and his demons corrupting our new nature. While this is true, it is incorrect to believe that from that moment on that God will not take that protective hedge away and that no harm will ever come to you again.

Have you not put a hedge around him and his house and all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. But stretch out your hand and touch all that he has, and he will curse you to your face.” – Job 1:10-11

In order to bring glory of God in our lives, God will sometimes lead us into captivity to reveal our sinful and carnal nature that we are continually contending with. He allows Satan to trample on us in order to reveal the true intentions of our hearts so that we repent of our sin to be restored to Him.

For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. – Romans 7:19

  • The question is why would God allow His people to be held in captivity in a state of confusion?

Behold, the days are coming, when all that is in your house, and that which your fathers have stored up till this day, shall be carried to Babylon. Nothing shall be left, says the LORD. – Isaiah 39:6

For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. - 2 Corinthians 5:1

There are many who take part in the traditions of the modern “church” who are in a state of confusion, but exude it in a self-righteous attitude. They look to man’s ways and self-help to attain salvation instead of Jesus Christ. Their focus is on the things of the world instead of the Kingdom of God. The modern “church” has become the spiritual equivalent to what happened to Judah.

Moreover, I will give all the wealth of the city, all its gains, all its prized belongings, and all the treasures of the kings of Judah into the hand of their enemies, who shall plunder them and seize them and carry them to Babylon. – Jeremiah 20:5

  • Where does the glory of God come into our lives when we are surrounded by spiritual Babylon and many are continually falling deeper into its grasp?

The Daily Battle

“If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” – John 8:31-32

Often there is persecution to those who stand on truth by contending against the self-righteousness of those in the modern “church” system. The battle we must face is two-fold. As we face the spirit of self-righteousness in others, we must die to our own self-righteousness in our own lives. We must die to it on a day by day basis.

You foolish person! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies. – 1 Corinthians 15:36

So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. – 2 Corinthians 4:16

This is the key to winning the battle and maturing in Jesus Christ. Part of maturing process is God allowing Satan to tear down the protective wall or hedge of protection in order to make us vulnerable to the Babylonian elements to expose the carnal intentions of our hearts.

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. – Hebrews 4:12

When we are self-righteous, we are spiritually blind in seeing that our righteousness is filthy rags, but if we let truth of the Word of God pierce our soul it is an opportunity to come to the knowledge of the truth that sets us free.

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge – Hosea 4:6

It is important to understand the processes and situations that God allows us to experience may be to purge something that is in us. He put us into Babylonian confusion that may destroy us both emotionally and physiologically so that in our vulnerable state we can come once again into a spirit of repentance that leads to freedom. It is an opportunity to gain the knowledge, which are the keys to being released from captivity.

Imprisonment or Release

There are many who have been captive in spiritual Babylon for long periods of time. Some, their whole lives. Unfortunately, there are many who will not come to the knowledge of the truth because they have refused God’s calling to come out by rejecting it. God has given them over to reprobate minds never to be released from Babylon. Without knowledge and repentance, Satan will keep them bound in chains indefinitely. While in captivity, God has grace enough for His people to give them the opportunity to seek truth and gain the knowledge of how to enter into His Kingdom.

The process of maturing in Jesus Christ is the process of learning how to obtain the hidden mysteries that pertain to the Kingdom of God. The process of slaying our carnal nature on a daily basis is part of the process of allowing God’s grace to change our lives that allows release from Babylonian captivity into His peace.

May the LORD give strength to his people! May the LORD bless his people with peace! – Psalm 29:11

There are a few stages of those who are in captivity that manifest in their attitude towards God and His Church. They will fear man instead of God and resent what is good. They believing that they are missing out if they do not engage in man’s traditions. They are never content and do not have peace, or genuine happiness. The modern “church” programs are designed to cater to their disappointments and frustrations in the form of self-help programs for a price. The outcome often leads into further disrespect for God and negative feeling towards those who are trying to “help” them. They become calloused towards “Biblical standards” that they were taught even though they were never the real Biblical standards.

When the masses surrender their minds and emotions to the direction of men, they have become captive to the effects of their sin as well as their own. They ultimately give in, and the wolves in sheep’s clothing will commend and flatter them with “positive” feelings for doing so. They want their minions eyes to gloss over into a negative state of mind completely aloof to the knowledge of truth. The manifestations of denying truth is denial, confusion, insecurity, false reality, disbelief, lack of concentration, anxiety, double-mindedness just to name few. These symptoms are a result of coming under the authority and control of man instead of Jesus Christ. This is not God’s fault, but our own. Taking ownership of them, because it is our own fault, not God’s. This is the first step to being released from the mental, emotional, and spiritual abuse that you have allowed into your life.

Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. – Romans 13:11

Departure

When we allow the Sword of Truth to slay our carnal man, we wake up out of our demonic slumber with the ability to listen and obey the Word and direction of the Holy Spirit.

Then I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people,
lest you take part in her sins, lest you share in her plagues – Revelation 18:4

If we don’t come out, then we will not be granted repentance, or baptism by the Holy Spirit for the remission of our sins. Those who refuse are not God’s people and they will be left to their confusion. They did not heed, but ignored God’s warnings and call to “come out of her.”

Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. – Romans 8:9b

God is calling many out of Babylon, but many are not responding. He cannot reveal truth to us unless we are willing to listen and act on what he reveals to us.

Then they shall know that I am the LORD their God, because I sent them into exile among the nations and then assembled them into their own land. I will leave none of them remaining among the nations anymore. – Ezekiel 39:28

Escaping from spiritual Babylon is not something that we do, but what God does. It is only God that can rescue us and lead the way. The only way ancient Israel could escape captivity was by God leading the way. Once we fully understand that we cannot do it on man’s strength and traditions, we can allow Him to lead us into His peace. It is an ongoing daily relationship of continually repenting so God can perfect the new person in Him, not the old one. The result is having the spiritual awareness that there actually is a spiritual Babylon with captives in it. The only way out is focusing on God and allowing Him to perform the work of salvation within us.

And Moses said to the people, “Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. – Exodus 14:13

True healing from enslavement is that we are no longer spiritually blind and deaf. Our desire is to pursue truth, which results in inner peace and sound mind.

Perception

True freedom in Jesus Christ is seeing with greater perception of reality through spiritual eyes. The carnal mind is never at peace because it is shackled to the temporal system of the world, the things of the Spirit are everlasting; God’s Kingdom does not associate with the world, but with God’s plan.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. – Romans 12:2

Let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it. – 1 Peter 3:11

Repentance and Warning

Ask God to give you spiritual eyes and ears to see the truth about spiritual Babylon that is wrapped in organized religion. It has been prophesied that the great falling away will come. It is here, but many cannot see it for what it truly is. God is going to test our faith with trials to perfect and complete us in Him. It is only through repentance that we can attain the knowledge of truth and understanding God’s plan of salvation.

Revival is repentance. The problem is that almost no one has conviction anymore. There are those who believe "revival" is coming, and others who believe that there will be nothing but apostasy in the last days. Many of Jesus' and Paul's words don't paint a pretty picture. The apostasy of hype and gimmicks that are called "revival" today is running rampant in the modern "church." It really cannot get much worse. It's time to wake up that "revival" is actually the falling away, but unfortunately many are too blind to see it. The hardest people to reach are those in the reprobate churches of man because they have denied God's truth and His warnings.

The past years have proven that any "revival" has NOT been from God. The worldly apostate "churches" are going to be judged by God for denying His leading and personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Man's agenda has taken precedence instead. God is judging many religious leaders right now for not heeding His multiple warnings. I have witnessed many leaders who have "crashed and burned" for their rebellion.

It is time to fear God and listen to His voice, or face the consequences. What will it be?

Matthew 24:3-13 is here.

I believe that all those who are caught up in the churches of man will keep on promoting "revival." The delusion that things are going to get better in a broad sense is simply spiritually blindness.

This is happening right now and applies to us.

The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders, and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. - 2 Thessalonian 2:8

For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. - 2 Timothy 4:3

But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. - 2 Timothy 3:1-5

There are many prophecies of "revival" spoken through the lens of man's doctrine in the modern "church," but are not supported by Scripture in context. The modern “church” has already not heeded God's warnings. They have abandoned God in every way. "Revival" in the modern "church" just feeds the golden calf.

"Let us build and make a name for ourselves."

Idolatry (Let Us Build)

Spiritual Babylon puts man at the head rather than Jesus Christ. They will say, “Let us build and make a name for ourselves.” They try to attain salvation by human effort that turns the Gospel into a marketplace of commerce. The "church" has done the same as ancient Israel by incorporating the spirit of Babylon and adopting the practices of the world.

True believers in Jesus Christ must understand that they are the ekklesia, not a building, business, corporation, or charity. The Kingdom of God will never expand on human effort and methods, but only by the leading of the Holy Spirit. Human efforts simply replaces the Holy Spirit with selfish ambitions centered on the traditions of man, rather than following the leading Jesus Christ. We need to repent for our dead works.

Most ministries in the modern “church” are motivated by gaining recognition. Men with professional titles and positions endorse their products to make a name for themselves. Through religious effort (“let us reach heaven”) of “Christian” activity, the focus is on what man is doing instead of what Jesus Christ HAS DONE. We need to abandon, and no longer strive after carnal religious activities, but simply follow Jesus Christ.

“Son of man, these men have taken their idols into their hearts, and set the stumbling block of their iniquity before their faces. – Ezekiel 14:3

Many do not fully understand the consequences of idolatry in the modern "church." Satan is released to assault all those who partake in these religious activities. It is obvious in the "churches" of men that there is so much oppression, depression and discouragement amongst the masses. Spiritual manipulation runs rampant where many pray soulish prayers trying to control what other people do. This is witchcraft. Many wonder why there is so much confusion and division in the “church,” but fail to understand that it stems from God’s judgement on Babylon.

Come, let us go down and there confuse their language, so that they may not understand one another’s speech.” So the LORD dispersed them from there over the face of all the earth, and they left off building the city. – Genesis 11:7-8

God’s judgement is still operating today through denominations and organized religion. The masses will continually be in captivity and bondage to spiritual Babylon until they repent and turn back to God. The modern “church” wants unity, but the Lord wants us to be in one accord with Jesus Christ. Will you have ears to hear what God is saying to His people?

“Come out of her, my people,
lest you take part in her sins,
lest you share in her plagues;
for her sins are heaped high as heaven,
and God has remembered her iniquities.
Pay her back as she herself has paid back others,
and repay her double for her deeds;
mix a double portion for her in the cup she mixed.
As she glorified herself and lived in luxury,
so give her a like measure of torment and mourning,
since in her heart she says,
‘I sit as a queen,
I am no widow,
and mourning I shall never see.’
For this reason her plagues will come in a single day,
death and mourning and famine,
and she will be burned up with fire;
for mighty is the Lord God who has judged her.” – Revelation 18:4-8

PandN- Another fine Hub. The danger of man made churches is the lack of understanding of the Kingdom of God. Christ true church are those who understands Matthew 6:33 where Jesus mentions seeking first the Kingdom of God. If those's of man made churches would remove their blinders they will see where they have been mislead by those behind the pulpit. But they must first have the understanding of God's word through self study of God's word. Removing the blinders requires the desire to do so. They can not remove the blinders if they refuse to admit their blind.

Again, another fine Hub and God bless.

Hi P&N's,

I am betting many who read this might not be very receptive or contemplative of that which is true....I'm praying those who read, who need to be challenged by it, will be free of pride, have open and humble hearts, will seek the Lord - in Spirit and in Truth.

I do think there are some congregations/churches who do take a stand for righteousness and like yourself, do not shy away from hard teachings (or put another way, grace is not cheapened, the gospel is not "watered down" and/or "tweeked" to serve self or to please man). Sadly these churches or congregations currently (in the USA anyway), are likley in the minority.

Although I don't agree with everything you've said here, I do agree with the majority of it. Once again, I appreciate your desire and efforts to get people thinking about what it looks like to be a true disciple of Yeshua/Jesus. You make some great points and until about 3/4's of the way through, there wasn't anything w/ which I disagreed. Thankfully, we can agree to respectfully disagree, and I trust when others don't agree, you tend to prayerfully consider what was said and how to respond.

Agreed, revival does in fact start with individuals via repentance. I think it is hard to say whether or not anything good has come out of "revivals" in recent past years, whether or not they have been genuine..... I think that's for the Lord to judge, and we probably ought to be very careful about what we say in this regard since we do know that the enemy will try to interfere with a genuine move of the Spirit. He is delighted when he succeeds at discrediting God in anyway, whether it be through hypocrisy, how others respond to being offended (whether it's justifiable or not - sometimes it's truth that people can't handle) or whatever. His mission is to steal, kill and destroy. Regardless of whether it's corporate or personal, there are those who are able to resist, persevere, and make it through. Thanks to the Lord, we can experience victory. The key is keeping our eyes open (and correctly perceiving) ears open (and hearing what the Spirit is saying) renewing our minds, having our hearts aligned with His.

This life will always be full of challenges because we are all imperfect people. I am someone who has experienced a lot of dissatisfaction w/ various churches because I am a very no nonsense, lets not compromise, type of individual. I have to be careful though to not be critical, to "let go and let God," to pray. People will disappoint and fail me, but the Lord will not. Regardless, I won't let "people" get me out of the habit of assembling together with them.

Since Yeshua/Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever, healing, regardless of whether or not it's spiritual, relational, emotional, mental or physical, does occur. Miracles, signs and wonders are not a thing of the past, yet we are not to chase after these things, or God because we want His blessings. Although we should honestly be able to say, "Thank you Yeshua/Jesus YOU came to set us captives free! Thank YOU for Grace and Mercy! Although we should take advantage of having a relationship with YOU, may we not take YOU for granted! Bless the Lord oh my soul, and forget not all YOUR benefits."

This being said, even though there are glorious riches we receive as part of a shared inheritance with Him, we are to seek Him for WHO HE IS.

Shalom,

christine

Graceinus,

You are right. If we do not understand what the Kingdom of God truly is then how would we be able to know what is added is truly from Him. Unfortunately, the" blessing" that the modern "church" receives is actually a curse.

When somebody flaunts their affluence, whether from the pulpit, or around their peers they are promoting the idolatry in their hearts over the true and genuine blessings that only comes from God. This is something that Bible reveals about the nation of Israel who often went through the repentance → blessing → judgement cycle with God.

Why is it that the more we perceive ourselves to be “blessed”, the less likely we are to rely and acknowledge God? We don't draw closer to Him, but become distracted by the lure of Satan who dangles a carrot in front of us. We "peacock" around with a false "blessing" that Satan has given to us. Because of our compromise we abandon following the way of Jesus Christ. The seed of these false "blessings" propagates into the counterfeit versions of true Christianity.

We put our own ways in place of God's. We falsely acknowledging that the glory is from God when it is far from it. This is called idolatry. Jesus Christ who is reserved for us is the true example of what it means to be truly blessed. In Jesus Christ, we understand what the true definition of blessings are . We may try to reason and acknowledge our perceived successes and accept the accolades of man to stroke our own egos, and feel good about ourselves, but it meaningless unless Jesus Christ says,"Well done, good and faithful servant!"

Christine,

Thank-you for you well thought out comment.

I what to clarify that I believe that the "revival" that is going on in the churches of men is not true revival. I believe that true revival starts in our homes with us as individuals. As we come out of captivity and have victory, we can be used by God to expand His Kingdom.

I don't believe that true revival is going to happen on a broad scale because there is no Scriptural basis that things are going to get better. Broad scale revival requires those who have had revival in their own lives getting together corporately in one accord with Jesus Christ before any principalities and powers can be taken down. This cannot be done on an individual basis. This means that any revival that is marketed in the "church" sphere is counterfeit because the Word does not say otherwise.

I believe the season that we are in is judgement. America will face the consequences for turning their face from God. The modern "church" has completely abandoned God and His ways and now they will face the consequences for doing so.

"Since Yeshua/Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever...."

Many quote this, but it is important to make the distinction that God has dealt differently with different people groups throughout history. The divine miracles of Jesus Christ and the Apostles are not happening today because the signs were meant for the unbelieving Jews. We no longer require a sign, but have faith because His grace is sufficient. The sign gifts have fulfilled their purpose. If there were more, then there would be additions to faith, hope and charity. God’s way of dealing with His people changed. All through Scripture we see how God changed His ways of dealing with different people groups, and when it has served His purpose, He started something else. Miracles confirmed the work of God until His Word was fully written. Miracles have already been fully confirmed in the Word; it now takes faith to believe in what the Word has documented even when miracles may not take place. I'm not saying that God cannot perform miracles today, but it does not look like what is happening in in the "revival" conferences and meetings that are taking place in the churches of men.

( "I think it is hard to say whether or not anything good has come out of "revivals" in recent past years, whether or not they have been genuine.....")

I believe that we a required to know; otherwise, there is no discernment on making the distinction between the real and the counterfeit.

That is why Jesus prophesied,

For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect. See, I have told you beforehand. Matthew 24:24-25

The modern "churches" are seeking after a sign and Satan is obliging. This is idolatry and blasphemy.

When Jesus Christ was here on this earth as a man, His miracles were attributed to Satan' power. Today it is the opposite, the "miracles" of Satan are being attributed to the power of the Holy Spirit. If the Church cannot make the distinction, the result is falling away and apostasy. For those with eyes to see and ears to hear will understand that the counterfeit it is right in front of our faces, but many refuse to call it for what it is because they are so steeped in their traditions.

God Bless.

I have been to Babylon, not a pleasant experience, but a necessary one. Your article is insightful and truthful. The process you so thoroughly described was consistent with my experience

I hope those headed there will glean from your information.

Tamarajo,

Thank-you for your confirming the process that you have gone through. I have been there too, but am glad that I heeded God's call to "come out of her." God is gracious enough to not leave us permanently there if we repent and reconcile back to Him. God Bless.
