Catholicism's Abject Failure Part 3

The collapse of Catholicism in the United States is palpable and the statistics are truly worrisome:

Total priests: The USA in 1970 had 58,771, while the whole world had 419,728. Today the USA has 40,666, while the world total now is 408,024. That works out to show that in 1970 the USA had 14.0% of the world's total, and now it's down to just 10.0%. When we compare the numbers against population increases, we find that if the USA had held steady there would now be 91,255 total priests, or 2.24 times more than there are now.

Diocesan priests: The USA in 1970 had 35,965, while the whole world had 270,924. Today the USA has 27,594, while the world total now is 272,431. That works out to show that in 1970 the USA had 13.3% of the world's total, and now it's down to just 10.1%. When we compare the numbers against population increases, we find that if the USA had held steady there would now be 55,844 diocesan priests, or 2.02 times more than there are now.

Religious priests: The USA in 1970 had 22,806, while the whole world had 148,804. Today the USA has 13,072, while the world total now is 135,593. That works out to show that in 1970 the USA had 15.3% of the world's total, and now it's down to just 9.6%. When we compare the numbers against population increases, we find that if the USA had held steady there would now be 35,411 religious priests, or 2.71 times more than there are now.

Diocesan priestly ordinations: The USA in 1970 had 883, while the whole world had 4,622. Today the USA has 472, while the world total now is 6,660. That works out to show that in 1970 the USA had 19.1% of the world's total, and now it's down to just 7.1%. When we compare the numbers against population increases, we find that if the USA had held steady there would now be 1,370 diocesan priestly ordinations, or 2.90 times more than there are now.

Graduate-level seminarians: The USA in 1970 had 6,802, while the whole world had 43,476. Today the USA has 3,357, while the world total now is 58,960. That works out to show that in 1970 the USA had 15.6% of the world's total, and now it's down to just 5.7%. When we compare the numbers against population increases, we find that if the USA had held steady there would now be 10,562 graduate-level seminarians, or 3.15 times more than there are now.

Religious brothers: The USA in 1970 had 10,448, while the whole world had 79,408. Today the USA has 4,863, while the world total now is 54,956. That works out to show that in 1970 the USA had 13.2% of the world's total, and now it's down to just 8.8%. When we compare the numbers against population increases, we find that if the USA had held steady there would now be 16,223 religious brothers, or 3.34 times more than there are now.
