I was reading my Bible today and my thoughts went to Noah's Faith. I pondered on how Noah believed God and built the ark. I wonder if I would have had the faith, in that day and age, to believe. I asked several questions and set out to discover the answers.
1. How did Noah know about God.
Noah decended from Adam's son Seth who died before Noah was born so Seth could not have taught him. Seths son Enos was 819 yrs. old when Noah was born so it is possible that Enos taught him but since the Bible doesn't say anything about Enos being a Godly man I doubt he did much if any teaching about God. It was probably more like telling the family Gossip. Like us today, we have all heard the stories about old uncle so in so that went to jail for whatever. We all have those famous bad people in our families and just like us Noah had them in his. So back to my question how did Noah know. The Bible doesn't exactly tell us but I can just imagine that it would have been pretty much comon knowledge throughout the family to know about their famous ancesters Adam and Eve and what happened to them. In fact it may have been Adam who gathered the family around to tell the stories of old. We just don't know. We do know that Adam lived long enough to have told many of his decendants first hand, about God. Adam was still alive when Lamech (Noah's Father) was born and lived 116 years after that.
Can you imagine what it must have been like to hear Adam tell about God. It is like now when you talk to somebody that has God in their heart, you just know that they know. Why is it that Adams children did not sek to know God themselves. Why did it take 6 generations before a decendant of Adam believed. Just like us, we hear and we know what we hear is true, but we walk away. It is beause Enoch chose to act on the measure of faith that God had placed in Him. The Bible says that God has given to every man a measure of faith. Romans 12:3. We all have that measure of faith and we must choose to act on it before it becomes a reality.
I think that Enoch told Noah about God and Noah believed him. He acted on that belief when God told him to build the ark.
Think of all the knowledge we have to look back on and understand what has happened, yet people with all the knowledge still refuse to act upon that measure of faith that God gave every man. We have so much confirmation and yet at times it is so hard to act on it. Oh, how difficult it must have been for Noah.
Next time I will give my second question about Noah's faith.
Let me know your thoughts on this.
