Coping With Each Day
Coping with each day is a task that requires patience, fortitude, wisdom, and above all a reliance on Something Higher. Times can and do become trying at various moments, and so it most certainly helps to have an inner armour with which we can shield ourselves.
This layer of protection normally relies on starting the day right. Whether we chose the path of gratitude and acceptance; that of love and soulful service, or simply rely, like a child, on our divine Father-Mother God, something has to and needs to be done.
I suggest, not only that we are all Children of Love, Light and Delight, but that we know this, either consciously or instinctively. While we may be the best that we can be in our joyful moments, we still, even if occasionally, feel the ‘experiences’ that comes with living this earthly sojourn.
Consequently, there is almost certainly the odd moments of fear, insecurity, jealously and ingratitude ….. and this happens to the best of us. How then should we deal with this?
Off to work
Some keynote words are:
The great God-man Sri Chinmoy, in one of his many lofty aphorism says:
"Be kind. be all sympathy.
For each and every human being,
Is forced to fight against himself."
We all carry life experiences with us. Ours we know but what of others? is there a larger picture? The irritable young mother pushing a pram with two kids may have just lost her husband. Is there bereavement? What about finance. Any economic difficulties? Was she an abandoned child?
Could the 'jumpy' and grumpy boss be dealing with his wife's medical illness in his head. Remember, we all carry burdens, and though many of us toil gladly with this, some don't. Empathy is essential if we wish to see the problem from the other person's point of view.
A great and indispensable virtuous colleague is patience. To know how to wait and rely on the universe for the right moment is wise indeed. We do not need to do everything NOW. God has given us another time .. another hour. No need to procrastinate, true, but more importantly, no need to rush. Is what I am about to do or say, going to hurt others; to delay progression or advancement? Would it help to listen more and contribute in silence. This too, has its strength.
Life deals us many cards.
The universe hands us many experiences, and not all are rosy. There may be the loss of loved ones; abuse in various forms; poor social support; character assasinations; abandonment and loss; job loss and helplessness ... the list is endless. Has any of these come your way? Through it all, we need to bear and forbear; to accept in a spirit of deep Faith or hope, and in a reliance on Something Higher. How can we do this?
When the day dawns, we can rise with beauty in our hearts, offer thankfulness that we have seen yet another day, and send loving thoughts to those who may not be so fortunate, then, now, and in the 'near' to come. Music is another supreme aid and the language of the Soul. Soft soothing and engaging music touches our hearts and inspires us to a fuller day. Breathe in the fullness of the dawn. The cosmic forces helps us and augments our life-energy when we imbibe the fresh air. Do we go for walks at the week-end? Do we pause to wonder at the streams? Are we in love with nature? Are we able to sit in the park at lunchtime to replenish our Souls?
Waters of Life
Man is both spirit and body, and as there is a need for the needs of the physical, so too, there is an even more essential need for the feeding of the Soul. All what we think, see and do, begins in the inner life in seed form, before finally manifesting itself here in the earthly plane. As such, it behoves us to seek out ways through prayer, meditation, self-giving and gratitude, in order to meet the requirements of the Soul. Soulful service widens the heart and encourages our nature to grow. Human nature cannot grow and does not grow without selfless service.
Drink a lot and walk by streams where you can. It is not by chance that the Nile, Danube, Jordan and others are so mysterious. Water signifies consciousness, and supports our prana (life-force). Exercise where possible, dream positive dreams; avoid malicious gossip and cut out the 'fillers' from an otherwise good or noble life. Be loving, offer thanks and be pleasing to God, whomever or whatever you consider It to be. It was there with our ancesters, and is as timeless as infinity Itself.

To conclude. Love Yourself. We say this so often! What does it mean? Always walk towards that which make you truly happy, what seem to work for YOU in YOUR life. Not your parents and most certainly not your friends (if you have any). Reject all that would make you weak. Move away from that which seems negative or a lesser Light, to one of brilliant sunshine. Expansion is life, contraction is death. Avoid all that is narrow and bound by plans. Adapt, adjust; accommodate. God is omnipotent and as such not bound by His plans. Remember that you are His prototype.
Rise with the dawn; cherish Mehta (loving kindness), be grateful and cultivate the spirit of the potter. He accepts the clay and then moulds it into a beautiful vase. Leave home with 'smarties' in your heart so that when the day ends, you still have a plus. Do not be in a minus. Let there be many windows in your heart. We need the doctor, lawyer and cleaner, as we need the flute, violin and piano, to create the perfect symphony. Diversity is the order of the day and religion is no exception. Be optimistic yet cautiously open. Be sincere; above all, LOVE .....
