Current UFO Activity (Down But About to Bounce Back?)

Sightings of UFOs had been increasing rather steadily for about 18 months beginning in July 2011, but ever since the end of 2012 the sightings numbers have been on a steady decline. In December 2012 the numbers were almost twice what a normal December would display (based on monthly report numbers from the National UFO Reporting Center, or NUFORC, from 2002 through 2010).

In January 2013 it was like someone turned the UFO spigot midway between 2/3rd of full blast and a total shut down. At least that was how things looked coming out of NUFORC. The numbers coming out of the Mutual UFO Network, or MUFON, weren't quite as dramatic but they were still around 25% less than the month before (and December along with February are usually the weakest months for UFO sighting numbers).

When the final numbers came in for February, both MUFON and NUFORC had about one third less sightings than the month before. And while MUFON's numbers were about 15% above average and NUFORC's just average during January, in February MUFON's numbers were now at average levels while NUFORC's were 17% below average. That kind of a result was alien to us number crunchers for quite some time now. Two years ago it was half as bad (8.4% below average in February 2011) and it was consistently well above that for nearly two years after.

Yet, all may not be gloom and doom for UFO hunters. At the end of February things seemed to pick up a bit. When looking at the reports coming in to MUFON for February 27th through March 1st we see daily numbers that are more than 30% higher than for the average daily figure when looking at the whole month of February 2013. Does this mean that the UFO numbers are about to bounce back or is this just a short lived flap representing a temporary oasis in what is increasingly looking like a barren desert?

One thing I would like to point out is that the above data is only confined to the United States and things may not be so bad outside its borders. I just noticed a reported upswing in activity in South Africa from February 21st through the 27th and Russell Crowe announced recently that he had captured a UFO on video in late February in Sydney, Australia.

The concentration of reports in the U.S. for the recent flap has been mostly in Texas but also in California. I actually had predicted this flap based on a double peak of several UFO day cycles that I discovered over the past year or so, but I had no idea where it might occur and incorrectly guessed Florida. Not only were the UFO report numbers significantly higher during 2/27-3/1/13, but there were also more daytime and close encounter sightings than usual on 2/28 and 3/1. I wrap this hub up by presenting some of those reports below.

MUFON case 45994: 2/28/13 at 7:15pm, Central Standard Time in Beeville, Texas.

High on a hill in a rural area of Texas, the witness had just pulled into the long path to his home and got out of his car to lock the gate behind him. When he returned to his car and shut the door behind him he noticed two lights, much larger than headlights in his rear view mirror approaching him from the other side of the road he had just driven in from. He thought it was odd since there wasn't anything like that visible just a few seconds before. He then started driving towards his house when the lights merged into one much bigger light that was the size of a car and egg shaped and following him as it traveled about 15-20 feet above the ground. He got scared as he saw several smaller lights appear next to it and noticed that they were all gaining on him. After he had driven about 3/4ths of a mile down his path and still not making it to his house, the huge light became just a small light accompanied by another small light and, in just a couple of seconds, it simply vanished into thin air. He immediately stopped the car, jumped out, and looked around but saw and heard nothing but silence around him. Being on top of a hill he could see for miles in all directions but he did not see a trace of it anywhere.

MUFON case 46003: 3/1/13 at 7:30pm, Central Standard Time in Fort Worth, Texas.

Driving west on Bonds Ranch Road in the early evening a parent (driver) and their son witnessed five circular objects all lit up and hovering in the night sky. They shined with a red and yellow glow and they were spinning soundlessly. Suddenly there were just two lit objects when three of them vanished. At the same time they came upon other witnesses who had pulled off the road to watch the "UFOs". After a short while the objects went from two in number to just one and then there were none. They all then discussed amongst themselves what they had just observed in the course of about five minutes time.

MUFON case 45986: 3/1/13 at 12:30pm, Pacific Standard Time at Creekside Greens Park in El Dorado Hills, California.

A couple went to the park to have lunch out in the sun and were sitting at a picnic table facing north when they saw something odd. To their east they saw what looked like a large group of birds flying in a big circle high up in the sky. They thought they were flying a bit higher than normal for birds and then a few of them seemed to reflect sunlight. At this point they realized that at least a few of them couldn't be birds. They seemed to be comprised of two different sizes and shapes too; some plane size and some bird sized. They then watched them simply vanish. What was left was about ten birds flying away and not in the same spot as what they had seen circling just a few moments before. They again saw some plane like objects that didn't travel in a circle but disappeared in the same area as the first group did. Then from the west they saw a group of five similar objects but these were in a star-like formation that went behind some trees. The series of sightings lasted about 20 minutes. After the sightings, about 15 minutes later, high pitched noises came out of a nearby radio. A few hours later the one who filed the report witnessed military jets flying over the area as if looking for something.

MUFON case 45980: 2/28/13 at 5:23pm, Pacific Standard Time in Westminster, California.

Driving down Westminster Blvd, traveling east towards Golden West St, the witness observed unusual flashing lights to his left (from the north). At first he thought it was a helicopter but as it traveled under 500 feet and in a southeastern direction towards him he got a better look and realized that it was morphing in shape as it wobbled through the sky. Although it was shape shifting it seemed solid and flashing red and white lights. The witness stated that it almost seemed to have been in distress and looking for somewhere to land. It then traveled out of his view. The sighting lasted 3-5 minutes.
